06.01.2022 This is what I posted on my wall. ‘18 years ago today, I left formal rehabilitation/hospital for good - 8 and a half months after my accident. The doctors, they told my family that I would probably only improve in how I was for the first year and then I would probably stay that way. While not being big changes/improvements, I think I am still getting better even to this day! I guess my point is - yes listen to what the ‘professionals’ say, but don’t you ever stop striving for... what you want, to improve your situation, just because someone has said that it won’t happen. It’s mostly up to you!’ And then I started thinking about all that I have done in the past 18 years. Among the greatest of my achievements over this time, has been to give birth to and raise my two children into the fine teenagers/young adults that they are becoming and to write and get published my book about my accident and my life since. There are many more, but these have been among the greatest. I was at a workmates place last night, for a BBQ to celebrate his birthday today. There were another few locals there, that we do not work with but have been in the area, or have known me for most of my life. They have my book. My book came up in conversation and I was delighted to hear about how they had enjoyed my book. I was told - ‘I knew some of what happened but it was really good to hear it from you - so to speak!’ This made me so happy and I thought to myself - Yes! And that is why I wrote it! It wasn’t to cry ‘poor me’ or to prove to others that they haven’t got it so bad. But it was just to get my story out of my head and to offer hope to others who might find themselves in a hopeless situation! Yesterday I also had the granddaughter of another of my readers contact me to tell me how much she was enjoying reading my book and that she had requested with her library teacher that the library get my book, so that the other kids could read my story as well. Her library teacher had agreed! This made my heart swell, and Mia, I am so glad that you are enjoying my book that much that you want to share it with the other kids too and I hope you learn from my story to never ever stop trying to achieve your best
