24.01.2022 In Traditional Chinese Medicine spring time is associated with the wood element & the colour GREEN. The organs & tissues that need attention at this time are the LIVER, GALLBLADDER & TENDONS. The liver is a critically important organ in the body, having a vast array of functions. It is one of the only organs where cells can regenerate if damaged. It is truly amazing. Chlorophyll is the substance that gives plants their green colour. Green is often referred to as the "master ...Continue reading
22.01.2022 This week is NATIONAL HERBAL MEDICINE WEEK. I have decided to write a post on the humble yet wonderful OATS (Avena sativa). I found her growing happily under the apple tree that I had mulched with horse manure. No doubt this highly nutritive plant came from a few stray seeds in the oaten chaff that I feed my horses & goats. One of the joys of life is to find a medicinal plant that has self seeded. If you keep your eyes open, you will find many that pop up in your garden or ou...Continue reading
17.01.2022 I found Nambi's (31 yrs) tooth in his feed bucket recently. I was amazed at how small they end up, with no root left to hold them in place. It also felt quite brittle and hard like an old bone. Any articles I write now will appear on my website. I have recently posted on the holistic care of the aged horse. If you have the time and interest please visit my website. And if there is a particular topic you are interested in contact me. I may be able to write an article on it. ... 16.01.2022 CAN ANYONE HELP THESE TWO BOYS ?
15.01.2022 On Sunday Cindie from Misty Downs Equine Care visited to give Dolly a therapeutic session on the Surefoot pads. Dolly stayed on the pads for around 45 minutes of her own free choice. She rocked from one foot to the other, dropped her head and went to sleep. Dolly has significantly damaged feet after rotating distal phalanx 3 (pedal bone) on her left front foot. She was 12 months old when this happened. After that she was raced on and off for 3 years, even winning a few races.... I have cared for her for the past 9 years, since she was 61/2 years old. Her feet will never be 'normal'. She has thin soles and bone degeneration. She was walking on her heel bulbs until we stopped trimming the heels out. She have never been or never will be sound enough to ride. Dolly is happy and loved. She has a forever herd & home no matter what, good whole food, herbal and homeopathic medicines to assist. It has been a long long road for us both. Oh and she is a chronic wind sucker. Thanks Cindie for coming out to visit and giving Dolly time on the pads. Contact Misty Downs Equine Care for more information on these pads, bodywork and trimming. 'Dolly's story' will appear my website traceyh.com.au very soon. Sorry about the wind noise. I couldn't work out how to mute the sound.
13.01.2022 This is really worth implementing in such drastic drought times where bare patches abound. I have been using this system (I need to make some changes) for the past 4 years. I can see the benefits despite the drought & the horses seem to be very happy living this way. Hay is so scarce and expensive at the moment perhaps we need to think of other organic materials to use. Manure is great and worth collecting then putting out on bare areas. When the rains finally come the sight of grass, rather than weeds, coming up through mulched patches will be heartwarming.
13.01.2022 I am offering FREE CONSULTATIONS via phone/email for anyone with animals affected by the bushfires. Herbal & homoeopathic medicines can be very useful in the recovery period both physically and emotionally. The past weeks and months have been full of anxiety, grief and devastation for many people and their beloved animals. Not only fires, drought as well. As I am going through some of this myself, I can empathise with your pain. It is nothing less than a horror movie. But it is real, this is our reality. Please call or email me: 0401865069 [email protected]
09.01.2022 I came across this on a friends timeline yesterday, which was World Animal Day. It is also the Feast Day of St Francis, the Patron Saint of animals and the natural world. It was originally posted by the Facebook page Safe Garden With Love for the Stray Dogs of Romania. Check out their page as they do wonderful work. https://www.facebook.com/straydogssafegardenwithlove/ To all our beautiful animals that grace our lives, may you be well loved, well fed and be in the company of your own kind.
08.01.2022 My horses enjoying fresh chamomile (matricaria recutita). Very easy to grow (harder in the drought of course), readily self seeds so you have it year after year. Fresh herbs are an excellent way to introduce variety and biodiversity into your horses diet. ... The benefits of chamomile are numerous. I have written a previous post on this herb if you are interested.
04.01.2022 This is just one of the reasons that I advocate a whole food, unprocessed diet for horses (and other animals including dogs & cats). The function of the gastro-intestinal system is central to the prevention & treatment of disease. If we don't have bio diversity available in our paddocks we can use herbs and foods to help, as we work towards this ideal.
02.01.2022 This is in our local Granite Belt area. It promises to be a great day and maybe some time away from our "drought stress" that is with us horse people most days.
