25.01.2022 The treatments for insulin resistance should be build more muscle + stop eating excess energy. Often these conditions are heavily medicated in young men and women. Great article that shows strong correlation with insulin resistance and severe acne.

25.01.2022 Yes there is green! I allow my children to choose if they would like veggies if I make them. Asparagus is in season at the moment and it was a good price. My children know that the main focus of their meal is the protein and fat - which in this dish, it has lots of both.... Creamy broth and another layer of lemon butter. Great meal to refuel their bodies & brains after all day learning and playing at school. Everybody, especially our children need good fuel going into their bodies at night - our babies are growing rapidly & repairing while they are sleeping - they need energy for this. It’s is SO important how we fuel our bodies for energy.

25.01.2022 There's a lot of misconceptions about superfoods For me, a superfood would have to be nutrient dense, cover all essential vitamins and minerals, and sustain a v...ital function in the body like neurotransmitter function, hormonal balance, muscle growth or methylation Some fake superfoods out there include 1. Kale because it doesn't have that many essential nutrients and it can mess up your thyroid 2. Fruit juices because they're just highly concentrated forms of fructosen 3. Bananas because they're also quite high in sugar and not even the best sources of potassium 4. Soy because it can also cause hormonal imbalances and is pretty void of micronutrients Some real superfoods out there include 1. Oysters because they have many essential minerals and are good for sex hormones 2. Eggs because they have all the amino acids needed for muscle growth and support the body's antioxidant production 3. Liver because it's the most abundant source of micronutrients out there and a great source of protein 4. Bee pollen because it has many immunomodulating properties and amino acids I think you don't have to be eating only superfoods or avoid foods that aren't considered as such Instead, you should just know the particular nutritional value of what you eat and whether or not it's good Which superfoods would you add to the list? My favourite superfood company is @ancestralsupplements because they offer high quality organ meat freeze ddied supplements that preserve their nutrient quality Check out https://ancestralsupplements.com/siim Stay Empowered Siim #superfood #superfoods #nutrition #food #eat #liver #oysters #realfood #lchf #ketodiet #ketosis #paleo #nutritious #nutrientdense

24.01.2022 A diet which is all about purposely starving yourself or caloric restriction for weight loss is doomed to fail. The lite and easy, Jenny Craig, weight watchers ...etc are all short term measures for weight loss and will not work longterm. With increased fat mass with every cycle as a risk as per the literature. Find a diet that is satisfying without starvation and is nourishing which you can be adherent with forever - fundamentally a relearning of what constitutes a human specific diet - in my opinion this is a high protein diet. This is caloric and restriction with the benefit of satiety. See more

24.01.2022 Today is WORLD DIABETES DAY! A day up until 4 1/2yrs ago I didn’t know existed. Do you know the differences and the names of the different types of DIABETES. ... Our girl Ashlee (Ashy as we call her) has TYPE 1 diabetes. This means that she is INSULIN DEPENDANT. Her body no longer makes or produces enough insulin for her survival. She must have injections daily - ALL DAY - EVERYDAY! Today we decided to gift our girl with her early sweet 16 birthday present (birthday is in 6wks time) - new bed frame and lights - she is one very excited young lady - yes her bloods did drop on the lower side with the excitement She has been working SO hard this term at school too - not only does she have to study and prepare like everyone else - she must check her bloods and monitor herself closely before exams and during exams, she MUST get a good night sleep before hand and also eat a diet that keeps her healthy - not a diet that makes her roller coaster and play catch-up all day and night. People say we are stopping her from being a child by eliminating sugar, carbohydrates and processed food from her diet - the fact is she has a better childhood and life because we do do this! She is averaging a HBA1C of 4.9% - this means she is able to keep up and be just like all her peers - maybe even better (as yes EVERYONES blood glucose levels spike with - cereal, toast, fruit juice, lollies, pasta, rice and most forms of carbohydrate). Do you know the signs of TYPE 1 DIABETES? Do you want to understand more about type 1? Do you have any questions about any form of diabetes? I’m a HEALTH COACH and one of my specialities is DIABETES.

23.01.2022 CARNIVORE BEGINNER'S GUIDE I’ve always enjoyed writing. I learned to make graphics during my management consulting days when we presented to C-suite clients. I ...studied Psychology at UC Berkeley which helped me to understand research papers. I’ve also been through eating disorder treatment and very much know the subpar recommendations for therapy + meds + dietetic support. I also am a nutritional therapy practitioner. I leverage all these areas to provide community content and how I wrote @CarnivoreCure. Carnivore helped me heal and I want to give back so that no one has to go through what I did. Disordered eating and mental health issues are debilitating. Even getting out of bed is a feat. And so I share. Because, sometimes, there is so much power in simplistic graphics. For many of you that are new to the Carnivore diet or have had a hard time sticking to a meat-based diet, I have a carnivore beginner’s guide with 60+ pages of infographics. Most of these graphics are not in @CarnivoreCure. You can get the beginner’s guide at https://nutritionwithjudy.com/how-to-start-the-carnivore-d/. I'll link in stories. I hope my infographics help make it easier to share the simple but incredibly powerful way of eating (and thriving) that is Carnivore. AND if you like these, @CarnivoreCure goes much more in-depth to help you personalize and fine-tune Carnivore for the long term. www.carnivorecure.com

22.01.2022 My new training tank arrived! Thanks Kewlioo, I can’t wait to use it tomorrow when I do my training session!

22.01.2022 Rethink your understanding of cholesterol! The brain needs it? Every cell in our body uses it! Our liver makes it!

22.01.2022 We only have one brain! Our brain is powerful and mighty - look after it - feed with real food - real fats - and you will have your brain working optimally, right up until your last breath! Your health - is in your hands - I know many people who can help you, guide you and support you!

22.01.2022 Please tell me what is actual food on this plate? Do you still eat cereal? Do you still have skim/low fat products? Do you still eat margarine/seed oil spreadables? ... Rethink your meal, plate and add ons? Hospitals need to rethink and be re-educated about nutrition!

22.01.2022 A lot of confusion surrounds the consumption of fruits. Can eating too much fruit contribute to metabolic issues? Yes, especially if you’re already insulin res...istant, metabolically deranged and/or obese, fatty liver etc. But if one is metabolically healthy - fructose can provide energy eventually via fat oxidation in addition to other nutrients. However we can not compare fruit to high fructose corn syrup because as clearly depicted one would have to consume huge amounts of fruit to reach the levels of fructose compared to a 20oz bottle of Coca-Cola. It is comparing apples with oranges comparing soda with natural fruits. See more

22.01.2022 This week we celebrate World Alzheimer’s Day. We know so little about this disease. However, the more we learn, the more we see a metabolic component to it. Let’s talk about it. #alzheimers #keto #insulinresistance

21.01.2022 A fantastic podcast this morning from Dr Shaun Baker (who runs Meat RX) with Australia's own Dr Pranavan Yoganathan. I learnt so much more this morning, please watch, it is well worth it.

21.01.2022 Fructose is not an issue it is a natural sugar - this is a mantra that is repeated by many professionals in the field of nutrition. Fructose as a sugar is ...one of the biggest issues we have in our diet as it is a vital component of our refined sugar (sucrose). Add in the high fructose corn syrup and we have a recipe for toxicity. Fatty liver, Obesity and other conditions can be directly attributed to this player in our foods. Foolish to state that fructose is safe when it is found in huge amounts in our diet. See more

21.01.2022 But Fruit is healthy But honey is natural But I can only relax when I have a glass of wine... Fatty liver & liver disease is growing rapidly. Children are even being diagnosed with fatty liver nowadays. Carbohydrates are NOT an essential macronutrient Protein & Fat are macronutrients

20.01.2022 One of the greatest traits you could have is self-mastery It allows you to change and improve upon every other quality because everything is rooted in your abil...ity to control your own behavior Without self-mastery, you can easily fall victim to bad habits and lose your reason during stressful situations Without self-mastery, you're also more gullible and influenced by the opinions of others because you're seeking outside validation This quote by Seneca Most powerful are they who have themselves in their own power. is a recurring one used by many famous philosophers. Lao Tzu said: He who controls others is powerful, but he who has mastered himself is mightier still." Self-mastery consists of the two things that truly belong to ourselves. They are our thoughts and actions the voice we have inside our head and the activities we do. It starts with coming to terms with the fact that we can’t control what happens to us but we can always control our response to it. This puts the responsibility solely on us not our circumstance, not other people, not our bad genes and not the weather, but entirely on our own desires, beliefs, and willpower. Seneca would routinely ask himself: What infirmity have I mastered today? What passions opposed? What temptation resisted? What virtue acquired? Our vices will abort of themselves if they be brought every day to the shrift. To end here with Seneca: No man was ever wise by chance. How is your self-mastery? Stay Empowered Siim

20.01.2022 One of the most common and serious ailments I see in my office is depression and anxiety. Our brain and cells are over 60% fat. With the trends and tips that he...alth magazines and commercials push on us, it is no wonder depression is sucking us all down! Before my passion for nutrition came along, I had a passion for donuts. I was an athlete and thought I could get away with eating what I wanted, as long as I worked out. Not true! Even though I ate enough calories, I was starving myself specifically, I was starving my brain. Even though my stomach was filled with substance, my brain kept telling me to eat; A diet that includes a fat-free Yoplait yogurt for breakfast, a Slim Fast for lunch, and a Healthy Choice frozen meal for dinner (which have more sugar than a full-sized Snicker’s candy bar!) starves our bodies at the cellular level. 19.01.2022 Repost from @izabellawentzpharmd Did you know that most cases of thyroid disease are autoimmune in nature? Hashimoto’s is a progressive autoimmune condition t...hat results in the destruction of the thyroid gland and leads to hypothyroidism... and in some cases, to other types of autoimmune conditions. 18.01.2022 How often do you eat? Eating frequency is a pretty relevant factor to the state of your body Eating calories puts you in a fed state of anabolism that promotes ...growth but on excess can also lead to diseases of overabundance Fasting and not eating put you in a fasted state of catabolism that promotes cell recycling and energy efficiency Too much of either can have negative side effects If you eat like 4-6 times a day you're slowing down the body's ability to eliminate dysfunctional cell components If you eat like once a day or every other day you may run into the problem of too much stress and catabolism Overall, I think a slightly confined eating window like 1-3 meals a day is the most optimal way of going about it without snacking and eating throughtout the day What's your eating frequency? 15.01.2022 Stay away from this fake ‘food’.

15.01.2022 Please take care looking at some of the pictures - they might be confronting for some people! The 25th of August is a date I will never forget! My life was cha...nged on this date - 2 times in my life. On the 25th August 2009, I recieved a phone call from my father (I was living in the Northern Territory at the time) that my grandmother - DOEY - had a MASSIVE heart attack and it didn’t look good at all - I was on a plane the next day for Brisbane, leaving my 3 babies for the very first time ever, to go and say goodbye to only woman in my blood family, who had ever believed in me and loved me for me! My Grandmother’s legal name was Lorna but everyone knew her as Dawn. I loved both names but I loved Lorna very much. I named Ashlee after her great grandmother - Ashlee Lorna So then does it surprise you when I write the next part - Our lives, mine as a parent, a mummy and Ashlees as a person (a little girl too, 11yrs old) changed forever on 25 August 2016 (same date as her great grandmother) TYPE 1 DIABETES came into our world, in a very forceful way. Ashlee was is in SEVERE DKA - Diabetes ketoacidosis - this is NOT ketosis! Ashlee had hours maybe not even that away from a coma or seizure when we rushed her to emergency at midday on the 25 August! I recall still to this day the frantic rush by all the nurses and doctors as they rushed to Ashlee’s aid to help keep her alive. I sat next to her and just kept telling her I was here. I have never been so scared in my whole life. My baby girl was fighting for here life! (Yes I’m in tears writing this, these days it’s a memory and I’m so proud of how much fight she has but there still is a very tender part deep down inside of me). Ashlee was in intensive care for a week after her diagnosis - as many know it wasn’t the greatest start for us - I was all ready challenged by the Endocrinologist before my daughter had even woken! We did however have some beautiful nurses and there was a lovely and gentle Doctor on the ward - Dr Primrose (we got to see Dr Primrose a few years later as his daughter was in the same preschool class as Teneal). Fast forward one year, two years, threes years and now four years - this girl fights everyday to be healthy, happy and the best Ashlee she can be! Her disease won’t stop her - I can’t even stop her - this amazing girl, I call my daughter won’t be beaten - she gets up each day and takes what ever the day brings - head on! Yesterday she had a very big low in last class (massive day of drama, sport and home exercise - these things can happen - even on low carb) - she has taught many of her friends what she needs - yesterday she looked at friends and said I’m low- game time - one of her friends got up and ran out of the classroom to the front office and got jelly beans - they waited with Ashlee until I got there in the afternoon - I’m so grateful that there are so many people out there that love her! However she is back at school today - talking about yesterday - teaching more children about what she has, what happened and about Type 1 Diabetes. Ashlee teaches her friends about low carb and sugar free eating - oh and carnivore - many of her friends want her to go tell their parents that they can just eat meat and they will not only live but thrive! As I said NOTHING is going to stop this amazing daughter of mine! I remember cradling her in my arms in the ICU while she was walking up and I was telling her what had happened, where she was and about T1D. I made a promise that day and I’m so proud that I have so many people by my side who help me and in their own way are apart of this promise - Ashlee my darling, I’m not going to just keep you alive! IM GOING TO GIVE YOU A LIFE! Do you know the signs and symptoms of Type 1 Diabetes? If you have a Type 1 in your life, work place, school - do you know their signs of a low/hypo? Ask a type 1 how they are, ask them about their type 1 - there are more out there than you know! Knowing just a little about TYPE 1 DIABETES - you could one day save a life! #Type1 #typeonediabetic #type1diabetes #t1d #typeonegrit #lowcarb #carnivore

15.01.2022 DOES FAT MAKE YOU FAT? Have a think about this question... Let’s ask the same question for the other macronutrients. Does drinking alcohol turn you into a bot...tle of vodka? Does eating carbohydrate turn you into bread? Does eating protein turn you into a chicken? This may sound humorous, but that’s literally how silly and over-simplified it is to say that eating fat makes you fat. Fat is a macronutrient that just so happens to have the same name as something we don’t tend to like that sits on our body. The commonality between the two is that BOTH fat (the macronutrient) and fat (the storage form of energy on your body) are essential parts of life. We need both of them for good health and longevity. But that’s about all they have in common... High-fat foods are not necessarily good or bad. The TYPE of fat that you consume in addition to WHAT the fat is consumed WITH is important. Excessive amounts of pro-inflammatory fats (eg, trans fats, high omega-6 oils) can drive a more pro-inflammatory environment in our cells - negatively impacting immune function, chronic disease risk and general wellbeing. Highly processed foods in which high omega-6 fats are mixed together with highly refined carbohydrates are a flat-out recipe for diabetes and cardiovascular disease. These foods (which are far too common in the food supply) cause us to over-eat and force the body to store the excess energy as fat. Minimally processed fats and oils including those found in red meat, oily fish, dairy, olives, coconut and avocado are NOT inherently going to make you fat. These foods provide a fantastic source of energy that your body is designed to use and burn efficiently for fuel (to give YOU energy). The problem with these fats only arises when they are consumed with excessive amounts of carbohydrate - even whole food carbs like grains, potato and legumes. The mixture of high-carb and high-fat is not a dietary approach that is consistent with good health for ANYONE. Humans can use primarily fat for fuel (on a high-fat low-carb diet) or primarily glucose for fuel (on a low-fat high-carb diet). The choice is yours - so which fuel will you choose? See more

14.01.2022 Sample of what to eat on a meat-based diet. Aged meats usually are higher in histamines or can cause more histamines to release in the body. Histamines are ch...emicals created in the body that is released by white blood cells into the blood when the immune system is defending against a potential allergen. If you are trying a meat-based diet to eliminate some of your allergy and autoimmune symptoms, it’s better to remove foods with higher histamine counts while you heal the gut. I talk about histamine intolerance and the critical importance of healing the gut in @carnivorecure. Reducing high histamine foods is a bandaid (but necessary initially) but the root cause is to heal the gut. Healing the gut will allow your immune system to handle more histamines. Of course this is bioindividual but most people can get better. Dairy can have histamines and the pasteurized forms aren’t as ideal. Raw dairy is optimal because it is more nutrient-dense, supports gut-healing and has all the natural enzymes intended to be in dairy. Try fish eggs, as they are nutrient-powerhouses. Salmon roe is one of my favorites but it’s an acquired taste. All eggs are nature’s perfect food. You may need to do yolks only initially if you can’t tolerate eggs as most of the sensitivities are in the egg white proteins. If you only prefer muscles meats, that’s perfectly fine. We don’t need to count and measure every single nutrient to make sure we are eating optimally. If we don’t eat the way conventional dietitians recommended, maybe we don’t need to follow their Recommended Daily Allowances. (I do keep an eye on the excessive ones though) Monitor your electrolytes and salt consumption. You need more salt on a meat-based diet, especially if you’re new. We don’t retain as much water without carbs. You will feel the effects of mineral imbalances quickly. Try sole water in the mornings https://nutritionwithjudy.com/balancing-electrolytes-blood/ If anything, removing all processed vegetable oils, packaged carbs and grains. Removing these basics can go a long way.

13.01.2022 A question was raised on Twitter today asking "how old were you when you realised #cereal4brekkie was a scam?" My answer... Well, I was never really a breakfast... eater and have naturally fasted till late morning/lunchtime since I was a teenager by choice. When I got to my 40's my dear husband insisted 'breakfast was the most important meal of the day' and with a full workload at the time, and increasing my exercise, I decided to give it a go and developed a taste for muesli with fruit and honey (natural!) sweetened yoghurt ;-) 3 years later Gary looked into the harms of sugar, fructose and processed foods and the rest as they say... "is history!" What about you? When did you give up cereal 4 brekkie???

13.01.2022 Whoops! I ripped out my CGM Sensor this morning! Surprisingly, very easy to do! So lucky I had 2, this time take 2 has been inserted on my tummy. And surprisingly inserting here didn’t hurt at all. ... New sensor is warming up - 2hrs again, I’m 15hrs in of 72ish hour fast (supporting a friend who is doing it and also I’m interested to see my bloods in a fasted state) Diabetic life, seriously there is enough factors you have to consider and then devices not working, having to calibrate twice a day, pump sites/needle injections of insulin and then ripping these very expensive devices out is challenging. These devices - CGM - on the other hand is the most wonderful technology to be avaialbale for our diabetics. We can make moment to moment decisions, small doses of insulin to help maintain steady and stable blood glucose levels.

08.01.2022 Lectins (gliadin, gluten, wheat germ agglutinin) are a form of plant defence molecules. They are a is a plant based insecticide, bactericide and fungicide. Th...e ancient grains are no longer really around. The traditional wheat has been modified numerous times over the years but was significantly altered by a plant scientist named Norman Bourlag. His grain hybrids were capable of larger yields on the same amount of land, and his hybrid species was adopted in mass to the point where all commercial flour is derived from these plant hybrids since the late 1960s. Modern wheat is particularly high in gliadin. Today, thousands of years later bread is baked in commercial bakeries, from flour outsourced from anywhere, treated with pesticides, herbicides, and preservatives. It is combined with chemical agents such as azodicarbonamide, and bleach. Azodicarbonamide creates a situation where the gluten breaks down into its individual proteins called gliadin, and glutenin making them both more readily available and more likely to cause irritation and harm. Grain of today is now particularly high in phthalates. These chemicals are used as solvents, and have made their way into our food supply in alarming amounts, especially grain. See more

08.01.2022 I crave extra FATS in the luteal phase (the 5-6 days before day one of your cycle). I love knowing that I’m giving my body what it needs to make progesterone. I... like to think of PMS = PRE-MENSTRUAL METABOLIC SURGE! Do you crave extra food in your pre menstrual week? Did you know that you are burning anywhere from 100 to 300 more calories per day? Research has actually identified that we get BOTH a Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and a Sleeping Metabolic Rate (SMR) boost in the range of 89-279 calories per day! Studies have also shown that there is no fat gain during this time, despite higher calorie intake due to this rise in metabolic rate. I used to feel weak when I craved more food- healthy carbs or healthy fats during that time of the month. Now that I understand physiology I no longer second guess these cravings but listen to my body and what it is asking for! At least there is one good thing to look forward to on that least fun week of the month!

Then last week Andy Mant launched his latest product - the Hive. I knew this was the one! Andy created my ‘sleep’ blue light blocking glasses and that saved my life! ... There are a few reasons I want this, one of the biggest reasons is to help Ashlee with healing her canular and CGM injection sites for her type 1 diabetes - every 3 days for the canular and 10 days for the CGM we have to find new places on her beautiful body - anyway I can help her recover and stay strong - im on it!! 06.01.2022 This!! I talk to all my clients about this ALL THE TIME. Finding your way, making your own rules about diet/lifestyle and being happy. I HATE the saying ‘falling off the wagon’ - if you feel like you’re tripping up, you’re not doing something right or you feel horrible within yourself - look at why - maybe you’re trying to live someone else’s life, you’re eating someone else’s diet or you haven’t allowed yourself to find what truly lets you be you so you can THRIVE!... Balance is the key! #wholehealth

05.01.2022 YOU ARE WHAT YOU BURN! SAVE & SHARE: the best fats are traditionally used fats and oils that are flavourful (think coconut and olive), minimally processed and ...unrefined. The worst fats and oils have no flavour and are inflammatory when our mitochondria try to burn them. See the list here of the top 8 to avoid & replace so that your body can be well fuelled from traditional fats that our bodies can recognize and oxidize. As my friend @ingredientologist said last week on our latest podcast: You Are What Your Burn! Factory refined vegetable oils may be the SINGLE BIGGEST CAUSE of obesity and inflammation in our diets! For many years I believed it was sugar however reading @drcateshanahan’s book my eyes have completely been opened to how vegetable oils have made their way into our cells causing inflammation and cellular shutdown when the mitochondrion attempts to burn them for energy. It also makes it impossible for the body to BURN our BODY FAT, which is stored there to be burned and oxidized for energy between meals. This leads to an inflammatory cascade and an energy crisis causing sugar and carb cravings for energy and eventually insulin resistance and obesity. Fruit fats are great- olive, avocado, coconut... She has a list called the hateful eight: canola (rapeseed), corn, cottonseed, soy, sunflower, safflower, grapeseed, rice bran My mind has been absolutely blown by this book and I cannot wait to have the stunningly brilliant Dr. Cate on the @fastketopodcast next week!
