23.01.2022 Disputes really are part and parcel of being in business. Despite our best efforts, things still happen from time to time that are out of our control, and whether we like it or not, we find ourselves having to deal with something unexpected. In this episode of the Rise Up in Business podcast I talk about what I mean when I say dispute (because whilst this is super familiar to me, I accept that it's not as familiar to everyone else!), and I talk through what to do if you find... yourself in a situation where you need to deal with a dispute. This can be a disgruntled client or supplier; someone challenging your work or an invoice; or a claim or allegation in relation to your business. Whatever the issue is, it's important to have a framework in place to work within when you are dealing with a dispute. I hope you find this episode helpful! 22.01.2022 Wow! I can’t believe I have reached the final episode for Season 1 of my podcast. It’s hard to believe it’s nearly Christmas. Thankyou so much to everyone who has downloaded the podcast and who has provided me with such beautiful and positive feedback. I have loved everything about bringing you this podcast, and I am well into planning for season 2. 2020 has certainly been a year unlike any of us expected. A lot of small business owners were able to pivot, grow and thrive this year but sadly, others were forced to close their doors altogether. In this episode, I share my takeaways from the year and my top tips for what I think small business owners should focus on as they move into 2021. As always, take a listen and let me know what you think.

22.01.2022 Season 1 of my podcast, Rise Up In Business, was a real hit with small business owners, and the beautiful feedback I received was so rewarding! My heart bursts with joy when I hit the mark by adding value to others, and that was what the release of my podcast was all about adding value to small business owners, and enriching the journey. Episode 2 launches next week, and I cannot wait to hear what you think! If you haven’t had a chance yet to listen to the episodes in se...ason 1, you can check it out by searching Rise Up In Business in your favourite podcast app, or you can jump over to my website and listen there. www.tmsolicitor.com.au/rise-up-in-business-podcast Let me know what you think!

20.01.2022 Some days are meant for taking it slow. Today is one of those for us. I took the decision late last year to ease back into business slowly in January, and honestly, it was one of the best decisions I have made. We are filling our cups by chilling outdoors, spending days with our BFF (aka Moodle puppy) and generally enjoying the slowness of January. How is your January shaping up?

17.01.2022 Outsourcing to contractors for small businesses can be a double edge sword. If done right, it can be a real game-changer . The ability for small businesses to bring in the right skills and expertise, on a project-based, or as-needed basis, can help businesses thrive and grow. On the other hand, if it’s not done well it can leave business owners in a world of pain with sub-standard outputs; unhappy clients, and invoices to pay with nothi...ng to show for it. I have seen small business owners end up worse off for outsourcing because it was done poorly, which costs the bottom line a whole lot more than it ever should have. So what is ‘right’ when it comes to outsourcing, and how can small businesses do it with ease? Have a written agreement Regular touchpoints throughout the relationship Make sure the contractor is genuinely a contractor (and not an employee as deemed by law) Need some help? Reach out and let's chat. Remember, there is no substitute for preparation, so take the time to get this right - you won't regret it! See more

17.01.2022 I am seeing this a lot lately. Small business owners are caught up doing all the things in their business - often on the tools, working their magic. And then, just like that, they realised they haven't been paid by a particular client for a while, and those outstanding invoices all add up to a fairly chunky sum! Now what? Panic often sets in. Sometimes overwhelm. Cash flow is the cornerstone for any small business, and outstanding invoices can cause a real problem.... In this episode of the Rise Up in Business podcast I talk about the process I go through with my new clients when they haven't been paid - I take listeners through my top tips on what to do if this happens to you. Whilst yes, of course, prevention is better than cure, and we would all prefer not to be in this situation. The reality is that it happens, so it is important to know what to do if it happens to you. Take a listen - I hope you find this episode super helpful! 14.01.2022 Are we there yet? Not quite, but we’re so damn close! Get those bottles of wine chilling in the fridge, those beauties will be open soon! ... I’m so ready to enjoy the Christmas festivitiesI’m energised by the thought of the celebrations I have with friends and family, and I’m also ecstatic that once I get through the, I have some real down time to reflect and recharge (beach time and afternoon reading novels, here I come!). As well planned as I have been this month, I’ve still had some of those unexpected momentsyep, something unexpected will ALWAYS happen The unexpected has been two migraines (pass the drugs) in two weeks. This is a very real sign for me to rest and also to look at my expectations of myself. Those who have worked with me know I am a stickler for expectations. When we set clear and realistic expectations, things generally work really well! Well, lately I have forgot about the importance of setting expectations with myself. (Yes, that’s a hard one! Hence the migraines ). Something I really need to work on is being ok with progress, not perfection. Anyone in the same boat? We’re so hard on ourselves. While we’re busy spreading the love and being kind to others, we can be so brutal on ourselves. This is not productive! It’s something that I’ll be working on over the breakkindness is key. Another biggie connected to this unhealthy quest for perfection is forgiveness. It’s become clear this week that I need to work forgiving myself for being imperfect and getting it wrong sometimes. Because the truth is, we’re all imperfect and getting it wrong provides us with opportunities to continuously learn. As I end the week I am reminding myself (and so many others around me) that we are all doing our best, and that’s enough. I am going to sit with this through the weekend (and no doubt next week too) and work at being kind to myself. It’s so important to start the year with kindness. For me, I think this will allow me to leap into the new year with a renewed sense of peace and calm, and loads of energy and drive! I wish you a beautiful Christmas, in whatever shape or form that looks like for you, and a very special new year.

14.01.2022 The concept of looking after your future self was introduced to me by the lovely Lorraine Murphy when we did some work together this time last year. & it’s stuck with me ever since! I LOVE knowing that I am doing something today that I will thank myself for later and that goes double in my business! As small business owners there is always SO MUCH to do! Seriously, that list never ends. I find it is so easy for things to build up and get on top of me, at which time I sp...in into overwhelm, and I don’t enjoy that one bit. So, I have promised myself that this year, I will make sure I do at least one thing every day, which I will thank myself for later. Today that starts with getting some help to manage my trust account it is super important, and it takes me ages to do what I need to do because I know if I muck something up there are real consequences. What can you do today that you know you will thank yourself for later

12.01.2022 & that's a wrap! Done for 2020, & I am definitely grateful for that. This year has been one for the books, & I have a feeling we ought to strap ourselves in tight for what 2021 may hold. ... Thankyou to my team for the privilege of working with you all this year. I am beyond thrilled with what we have achieved. And a big heartfelt thankyou to my amazing clients who have trusted me with their matters - I am blessed to have worked with each and every one of you. I am looking forward to some down time eith my family (& just a little bit excited already about diving back in to it all in January & seeing what we can achieve in 2021!).

07.01.2022 Nothing beats collaborating with my clients! There is something deeply rewarding about becoming a trusted advisor, and when my clients call me up to bounce an idea or ask a quick question my heart fills with joy. That’s why I’m here, and building those relationships is the best.

07.01.2022 We are ready to welcome a new solicitor into our team. Could this be you? Have you been practicing in the ‘traditional’ legal practice space for more than 5 years, and you’re ready to do things a little differently both in and out of the workplace?... If your definition of wealth extends beyond money; if you’re ready to prioritise yourself and your personal life, and the concept of enriching the lives of others resonates deeply with you, then a place in our team may be for you. We are looking forward to welcoming a commercial/business lawyer on a part-time basis, into our thriving legal practice. Our business model facilitates remote working arrangements, which have been approved by the NSW Law Society. We value the flexibility that we have worked hard to establish, and we are keen to share this with you if you are craving a new working environment committed to flexibility and balance, whilst delivering the highest standard of legal services, and a quality client experience. If this sounds like you, please reach out for a confidential chat. If this sounds like it may appeal to someone you know, please feel free to pass our details along!

07.01.2022 Are you overwhelmed with ideas of all the new and exciting things you want to achieve in your business this year? Or are you already a little up-to-your-eyeballs in a to-do list that was never quite cleared last year? We’ve all been there! (& truth be told, many of us are probably there with you right now).... If this is you - I’ve got you covered. My 1:1 Strategy Session is designed to allow me to dive right in with you, distil that list or those ideas, and help you work out what you need to do, and in what order. The reality is we don’t know what we don’t know, and that means we need to connect with and collaborate with advisors who do. Enter me! Reach out if you would like to book in for February.

07.01.2022 This is why I do what I do, the way that I do it! To be able to take time out and spend with these two; to do the things that we find grounding, and that allows us to spend time together - to me, that's priceless. I am so grateful for my business and the fact that it allows me to reach so many business owners and enrich lives, & at the same time enriching the lives of our little family.... What are you grateful for today? See more

05.01.2022 In short, no, it's not. Your Business Terms & Conditions need to do 3 things: Ensure you comply with your obligations under the Australian Consum Law. Be professional. ... Protect you and your business. Unless you are a pro and know this ins and out of contract law and Business Ts & Cs, this is the classic 'we don't know what we don't know'. If you use templates, you won't know if they do what they are supposed to be doing until you need to rely on them - and if they fall short (which is entirely possible!) then it's too late and you've wasted your time and money with templates. My view? DIY is for Bunnings, not for your legals. Don't risk your business with templates. See more

04.01.2022 twas the day before Christmas... This is such a special time of year for me. I cherish coming together with those that we hold close, and those whom we value. I love watching the kids run around in anticipation of a visit from Santa, enjoying our undivided attention (and loads of good food!). These days make me feel so grateful for so much, and these days that includes being a parent to 2 little people who look at the world with wonder and awe. I hope you are taking some... time to enjoy all that is special to you about this time of year. Merry Christmas. x

02.01.2022 Merry Christmas to my amazing community. I am so grateful for your support and kindness. Enjoy today, and may it be all that you want it to be. Let's look forward to 2021 being everything that it can be.

01.01.2022 It was an absolute privilege working with Jessica on her legals. She has a lot going on in her business (because she's that good!), and we needed to take care to capture everything specific to each moving part. We got it done, and I was so proud to produce the final suite of documents, ready for her to use. This is why i do what i do - to empower my clients grow their business and do what they do best.
