22.01.2022 If the area that you are operating in has no mobile signal, often the only choice is to use a Satellite Device. We don’t own any devices but regularly facilitate hiring them from a 3rd party. The specific device we would recommend depends on your individual circumstances. All Satellite devices carry a higher price tag than a GPRS unit which can be as little as $18 per unit. Generally, a low end Sat device would start at $80 per tracker right through to $200. Pricing changes d...epending on trackers hired, duration of the event and whether you need 2 way messaging. Trackers we have used in the past include SPOT trackers, YB trackers and InReach Trackers. Each have different advantages and disadvantages. All trackers use the same mapping system (front end) as the GRPS. It is a complicated area and one we are happy to provide general advice on over the phone if you think you may be interested.

01.01.2022 So ... how does our inbuilt timing system work? Well ... we're not sure if this explains it but we have given it a go. GPRS timing comes from the Geofence capabilities of the trackers and is very easy to use as it is automatic. You simply set points along the route that you would like timing for. You do this by giving us the latitude and longitude of the points. As a tracker moves past this point, the time is automatically put into the leaderboard. With this system, it will ...only be to the closest 90 seconds or to what the tracker is set to send out on. This means it isn't 100% accurate. What most events do, is use this for timing out on the course but add in a barcode scanner at the finish line. The barcode scanner involves someone scanning people as they cross the line. This time is then put into the leaderboard as an accurate finish time. All times, splits, etc appear directly on the leaderboard next to the map. All results are accessible by a back end where they can be edited or overwritten. The system also allows for penalties and time credits to be put in. It is a great system and we are happy to talk through if it might work well with your event.

01.01.2022 The general precept is that you need to carry the tracker with as much view of the sky as possible ie in the top of your pack. If on a bike, either on the shoulder strap of a back pack or taped on the stem towards the front or in an upwards facing pocket in a back pack. Places where it doesn’t work so well on waist strap (body shields GPS signal) or under seat. Running. The best place we have found is taping the tracker to a shoulder strap of a backpack so it is on t...op of the shoulder. Get's the best unhindered signal. Many runners prefer a bumbag, that’s OK better if round the back of the runner otherwise GPS signal is shielded when going up steep hills. Also once or twice some racers have put it in a bumbag and then put a backpack on over the top. Poor tracker has a hard time finding the sky. If you do use a backpack or a bumbag, the tracker needs to be stationary in the bag. Running downhill the poor tracker will be chucked around and will have a hard time so top pockets should have something else in them as well to hold the tracker in place. Also putting it inside buried under gear, not great either. Kayaking: strapped to the shoulder strap of a PFD. It doesn’t work well in pockets or waist straps where it might be shielded by a PFD. Adventure Racing: Carry triple bagged as supplied. Ensure teams carry them in an upward facing pocket in their back pack. Not in a deep pocket where it can loose signal. Horse Riding: Ideally in an upward facing pocket in a backpack, or at the top of some saddlebags. They don’t work well in front pant pockets where you lean over the top of them. See more
