25.01.2022 This week I visited students on Brisbane’s Southside currently engaged in TRACTION’s Bicycle Build Program. TractionBuilds provides an opportunity for disadv...antaged young people to get hands on experience in bicycle building, repair, restoration and maintenance while building confidence, a sense of self worth and skills to lead a healthy lifestyle. At the end of the program they get to keep their completed bikes! I’m proud that Brisbane City Council through Cycling Brisbane sponsors such a worthy cause that empowers young people like this!

23.01.2022 Measure twice, cut once! Boombox students have been learning the importance of patience and precision. How cool is this going to be?! #ActionBasedLearning

22.01.2022 It was a delight to have Barry, Martin and Jimmy volunteer their time and build ramps that will bring smiles to the faces of our young people. Heartfelt thanks to you three legends for making a difference! Read the full story via the link below

20.01.2022 Something exciting is in the works! TRACTION is in the first stages of building a NEW food and nutrition component for our programs, in partnership with Health and Wellbeing Queensland and Universityof Queensland! We all know eating well promotes physical and mental health, and we're excited to give young people the opportunity to learn about, prepare and eat healthy food, alongside their bike projects. ... The best part? The program is being developed with a co-design approach, so the participants get to guide how and what they learn. In true TRACTION form, the young people will be building skills in a hands-on, engaging way! Dr Robyn Littlewood, CEO of Health and Wellbeing QLD, came to the Yarrabilba workshop to meet everyone and quickly got on the tools to help with the tough job of scraping. Excited to get started, the group tried making delicious banana smoothies, which some of the young people tried for the very first time. Watch this space for more news on the program...

20.01.2022 CEO Bike Build 2021- Meet Anne-Marie Anne-Marie Ridgers represented valued supporter AVS Nutrition at the TRACTION CEO Bike Build in 2020. Watch the video to hear what she hoped her bike build partner, TRACTION participant Riley, would get out of the day. With experience overcoming the challenges of running her own business, NEON ERP Solutions, Anne-Marie gave her time to help a young person develop their own self-belief and goals.... To help give young people a platform for success, join our amazing band of 2021 CEOs! Head to https://lnkd.in/d2NQPsF to register, or nominate a CEO you know!

19.01.2022 It was great to have Cr Steven Toomey visit TRACTION recently. He was a good sport, jumping on a bike and having a go at the TRACTION classic, "Slow Race"! Cr Toomey is supporting TRACTION to connect with people in infrastructure, as we search for a new workshop location on Brisbane’s Northside. From that new workshop base, we'll be able to provide our mentoring programs to young people from the area, with a special focus on Australian Defence Force families. We can achieve ...great things for our young people when we work together! #infrastructure #support #brisbanecity #youthempowerment #communitybuilding #communitysupport #mentoring #tractionbuilds #traction

09.01.2022 Heartfelt thanks to the St. George Foundation for supporting TRACTION with a community grant that will help ensure access to our programs for more Indigenous young people in the Redlands region. Two groups of young people graduated this term. A highlight was a visit by Matthew Burns, a Quandamooka man and Traditional Owner of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), who delivered a cultural awareness education session with the participants, which included a cultural talk, artefacts display and traditional fire-lighting activity. #communitysupport #empoweringyouth

05.01.2022 Scroll through our favourite six photos from the past couple of weeks It’s all happening this term with Brisbane, Redlands, Gold Coast & the Scenic Rim all getting into the swing of things! #BikeBuild #SmallEngines #BoomBox #Empowered

04.01.2022 My Favourite thing about the program has been doing all the engine stuff. It’s fun and entertaining and I get to learn what’s inside. At TRACTION I have been learning teamwork and the confidence to talk to people. . Zali - Small Engine student #ScenicRim

04.01.2022 One of the special things about the TRACTION environment is that it provides young people 1:1 time with Mentors, giving them the opportunity to safely share their interests, talents, dreams and goals in a supported way. Our Bike Build participant, Harmony, shared her inclusive art with us, and is happy for us to share it with you too. She explains, I draw characters with disabilities, because there aren’t many people with disabilities shown in art. #powerful #youngleaders #respect #traction #youthmentoring

02.01.2022 TRACTION Founder and CEO, Sandy Murdoch, recently shared the TRACTION story on film! What's the TRACTION spark? How do we support young people in the community? Have a watch and find out. If you have any questions about the programs or how to get involved, please feel free to get in touch!... If TRACTION can provide a catalyst, just that spark, for a young person to consider what their potential could be that potentially can alter the trajectory of their whole life. - Sandy Murdoch, 2021

01.01.2022 Great visit today with Jan and Steve from the Lions Club of Beaudesert Qld. The team showed them the awesome work they have been doing during the small engines program. Thank you for your amazing support of TRACTION. #communitysupport

01.01.2022 Design time! It’s a cool process to design a custom bike paint job and then bring it to life on your own . It makes our young people begin to imagine what other great things they’re capable of #creative #buildyourownfuture #possibilities #youthmentoring
