25.01.2022 You know youre a podiatrist when your favourite donated orthotics get framed and hung on the wall
25.01.2022 When your husband has a sore knee and you get a bit carried away Don't worry, I'm more restrained in the clinic.
25.01.2022 Concerned about wear patterns on your shoes? Had a friend comment on your walk? See your podiatrist to get it checked out. If we don't know the answers, we can refer you to someone who does

24.01.2022 An excellent article on choosing school shoes. Well worth a read.
24.01.2022 Took a "little" bit of callus off a pair of feet. They're 2" shorter, but feeling 10x better
24.01.2022 I never get tired of helping feet like this.
24.01.2022 1. Please don't fix your thongs/flip-flops/jandals/plakkies with nails. 2. If you REALLY have to, please don't put the nail sharp side up!
24.01.2022 If you cut your own nails make sure you get completely into the corners. A small spike of nail can cause extreme pain, and even lead to infection.
24.01.2022 When you can help someone feel good about themselves, thats job satisfaction!
23.01.2022 If you ignore a small niggle it could become a big problem.
23.01.2022 To flatten the COVID-19 curve it is essential we continue with our social distancing, staying home unless essential we have to go outside briefly, and by maintaining hand hygiene. It is also vital we maintain our mental and emotional health during these days. Look after yourselves, and let's do our best to stay positive

22.01.2022 Ive just had first hand experience of Intermittent Compression Devices. When activated, air is pumped into chambers in the back of the leg sleeve pressurising the tissues in the leg, squeezing blood from the deep veins and lymph out of the area towards the heart. A short time later the sleeve deflates, allowing increased blood flow back into the leg: the deep veins refill with blood. ... Mine was set up to compress each leg separately, almost like a massage. These devices are not always the most pleasant to wear, but they ensure the movement of venous blood and help prevent DVTs.
22.01.2022 Dry needling: when the needles "dance" you know you've got the right spots.
22.01.2022 Good news: you do not need to wear a mask to the clinic for your appointment! Hooray!! If you feel safer with a mask, then feel free to wear one. I will continue to wear a mask, as always during treatments, to protect my lungs from repeated exposure to nail dust. So please don't think I'm judging you
22.01.2022 Watch our President, Katrina Richards interview with ABC News discussing the importance of seeing a podiatrist for podiatric conditions. Watch the interview here https://vimeo.com/390378701 #australianpodiatry #apoda #foothealth #podiatry
21.01.2022 Podiatrists care about you. As the lower limb experts, from your feet to your ankles, to your knees and hips, podiatrists explore how each factor influences the... other to affect your overall health. They care about this bigger picture because it is key to making a positive difference. 19.01.2022 Unfortunately we are going into stage 4 lockdown for 4 days, so the clinic will be closed. Looking forward to re-opening thursday.
19.01.2022 We are back to wearing masks inside again.
19.01.2022 Podiatrists are accessible. Anyone and everyone can - and should - see a podiatrist. You dont need a GP referral to see a podiatrist and it doesn't have to c...ost the earth. Podiatrists can also connect you into other allied health professionals and specialists, to work in a team that gets the best outcomes for you. #FHW19 #foothealthau #standupforyourhealth #podiatryaustralia #foothealth
17.01.2022 If you are high-risk, or are advised to seek screening, this is vital information from Bendigo Health. Keep safe everyone, and remember to wash your hands like you've just chopped chilli and need to remove your contact lenses.
17.01.2022 Why your feet are important #3 They are a work of art! Or at least Leonardo Da Vinci thought so when he said, The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art. Did you know that your foot contains 28 bones, 33 joints, more than 100 tendons, muscles, and ligaments, and 250,000 sweat glands? Your feet support your entire body and need to work well for you to be active and healthy.
17.01.2022 Calluses and corns are formed when the outer skin thickens to protect against damage from prolonged rubbing, pressure, and other forms of irritation. Corns often have a dense knot of skin called a core, which is located over the area of greatest friction or pressure. Prolonged irritation can lead to a small amount of bleeding between the thickened and normal skin. In severe cases, the underlying skin can breakdown and ulcerate. People with diabetes and other medical conditio...ns are especially at risk of skin breakdown. In these pictures you can see corns that were left for 4 months. Bleeding is present but fortunately there was no underlying skin breakdown or ulceration. The corns were sharp debrided and medical grade slow memory poron insoles fitted inside the shoes. The right corn measured 13x11mm, the left 11x9mm
16.01.2022 4 year anniversary at Breen Street marked with a beautiful new sign. Thanks to Mark Weragoda Signs for doing such a fantastic job. Fast, efficient, excellent value for money, and amazing customer service. Absolute pleasure to support another local business.
16.01.2022 Fantastic idea I saw this week on how to hide a catheter leg bag when wearing shorts in the hot weather. Get a pair of trousers you don't wear much, cut off the bottom of a leg, sew elastic in the top seam, wear it on below the knee. Looks like a gardening gaiter. Just to be clear, I do not believe there is any shame in having a catheter, colostomy, ileostomy, or urostomy bag. ... Its a sign you've faced something incredibly difficult and come through. You should be proud of yourselves. However, many prefer to cover their bag when in public. Even if just to prevent personal questions from strangers. Everyone is free to make their own choice in this matter. See more

14.01.2022 Today is World Diabetes Day. This year the theme is 'protect your family'. 13.01.2022 Do you have Diabetes? Its time to Stand Up For Your Health! Having diabetes may increase your risk of developing diabetes related-complications that include ne...rve damage called peripheral neuropathy or poor circulation in your feet called peripheral vascular disease. Nerve damage may affect how you feel pressure or pain and may lead to numbness in your toes or feet. Changes to your circulation may delay your ability to heal any cuts or sores. This may also increase your risk of developing ulcers that may even lead to amputations. #FHW19 #foothealthau #standupforyourhealth #podiatryaustralia #foothealth
13.01.2022 Today is RUOK? Day and because 2020 has been a such challenging year we need to prioritise mental health in ourselves, our work mates, our family and friends. This is a very personal subject for me. When I hit absolute rock bottom my friends weren't trained experts but they took the initiative, listened, and supported me, and without them I wouldn't be here now. So please reach out to others.... You don't need to be an expert, just a good friend and a great listener, and you could save a life. RUOK? Is a suicide prevention charity that provides resources you can use every day. https://www.ruok.org.au/every-day-resources

12.01.2022 Diabetic feet can lose protective sensation, leading to wounds and ulcer formation. This photo shows a home treatment for dry skin that went wrong. Don't use sharp objects on diabetic feet. See your podiatrist.
12.01.2022 Tradies Did You Know Incorrectly fitting boots can lead to a number of foot conditions that can put your work on halt. Corns, blisters, bunions and plantar fas...ciitis are just some of the conditions that incorrectly fitting work boots can cause. If you are experiencing any foot pain while wearing your work boots, a podiatrist can help you determine if your boots are the cause, what to look for in a work boot, and can treat your feet so that youre back up that ladder in no time! #FHW19 #foothealthau #standupforyourhealth #podiatryaustralia #foothealth
12.01.2022 Some nail salons are excellent, some are not. Standards vary greatly. Be careful and be smart in your choices.
12.01.2022 The clinic is closed for 2 weeks as I take a well deserved break with hubby & lil puppa. Appointments are available in the new year. For Breen Street Bendigo call 5444 0689 For Warracknabeal call 5396 1380... Stay safe and healthy.
12.01.2022 A sad day for me: I have kept Bulk-Billing for as long as possible as I believe in affordable and accessible healthcare, but sustained increases to prices for stock and supplies due to COVID-19 has forced a change. Since March 2020: Masks price increase of 625% - that is the cheapest. My usual supplier has a price increase of 900% ... Gloves price increase of 200% - and these are harder to get hold of. Other supplies/stock some have been on back order since March 2020. Others have very limited availability. All prices have been increasing due to increased demand on production, and reducing international shipping. I have been able to maintain prices for the past 10 months, but have finally had to admit defeat and increase the prices of services to cover these additional costs. So from 25th January 2021 the clinic will no longer provide Bulk-Billing. My apologies, and I thank you for your understanding.
10.01.2022 When your husband has a sore knee and you get a bit carried away Dont worry, Im more restrained in the clinic.
10.01.2022 The weather is slowly warming, but were still seeing people with chilblains. Symptoms: a burning sensation on the skin... red, blue or white swollen patches intense itching dry skin, leading to splits and cracks possible secondary infection ulceration, in severe cases. Chilblains are caused by a combination of cold weather and poor circulation. In cold weather, these blood vessels constrict to conserve body heat. This can starve extremities of blood and warmth, if your peripheral circulation is sluggish: the toes are particularly vulnerable. The elderly, sedentary, teenagers, and people with medical conditions (such as anaemia) are most susceptible The symptoms of chilblains are made worse with sudden temperature changes for example, entering a warm house after being outside in the cold. Similarly, heating cold feet too quickly, by propping them next to a heater or using a hot water bottle. Treatment: Resist the urge to scratch. Ask your Pharmacist for a lotion to soothe the itching. Lanolin rubbed into the feet, will help retain body heat. Vicks or a similar product rubbed into the feet, will assist with reducing the constriction of the blood vessels in the feet. Wear woollen or cotton socks. Keep your whole body warm. Gentle exercise will improve circulation to your feet. Avoid long periods of exposure to cold or damp weather. Avoid tight shoes. Dry feet thoroughly after showering or bathing. Use woollen or cotton socks to allow your feet to breathe. See a podiatrist for regular professional treatments (These toes have always short and cute, not as a result of chilblains)

We are doing our best to provide a safe service for all of our patients, and ask your understanding and cooperation with the additional questions asked and precautions taken. Thank you.
07.01.2022 An unapologetically not foot related post. Enjoying a well earned break on the Bellarine Peninsula and discovered this wonderful restaurant /cafe. I have an anaphylaxis level allergy and they were able to cater safely and tastily for this. Fresh ingredients and a delicious fusion of flavours. The coffee was also nice.... Couldn't recommend them more. See more
06.01.2022 Due to the sudden increase in Covid-19 cases we are now requesting every patient wear a mask to the clinic. It does not have to be medical grade, and you can make your own. Screening precautions, additional to those already in place, will also be carried out on entry to the clinic. ... If you are not feeling well, or are aware of being in contact with someone who is not well, please contact the clinic as soon as possible to reschedule your appointment. We appreciate the hard work, cooperation and understanding shown by our community as we work together to fight the spread of this infection, and save lives. https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au//Design%20and%20preparation%20

04.01.2022 Custom made orthotics can be an excellent health device.... Or a very expensive doggy chew toy. I don't recommend the second option
03.01.2022 No words to describe the suffering being seen across Australia. Staffan & I have close friends personally affected, and their experiences are just the tip of the iceberg. Deepest thanks to: the firefighters who are risking their own lives to save others despite overwhelming odds; communities who are pulling together and providing each other with vital support; those opening their homes to strangers fleeing the fires; and to the wildlife rescuers and vets who are helping as ...many injured animals as possible. Here is a link with information about ways to help those in need, including animals.... But please be wary of scams: even now some low lifes are taking advantage of this situation. https://www.news.com.au///a0476ac3538b8c373f281ea6be204421
