25.01.2022 There is no such thing as the going rate! A lot of trade business owners tend to price their services based off a so called ‘going rate’. This is a bad move. Stop worrying about what old mate down the road is charging. Stop worrying about what your old boss charges. Stop worrying about what Scott (from your local services Facebook group) rates are. And stop worrying about what aunty Kath’s second cousin’s son Doug charges in Perth!... Yes, competitive analysis has its place (especially with larger commercial projects), but you need to focus on your own math and work out your own numbers. Start pricing your work at a rate that allows you to deliver exceptional customer experience, produce high-quality work and make the return that you want! But don’t kid yourself If you want pricing flexibility, you must differentiate yourself from the rest of the pack by providing massive value to your prospect throughout your marketing and sales process. If all you have to offer is the same service, the same value the same everything, then you will be forced to compete on price, because price is the only point of differentiation. If someone isn’t interested in a premium price for a premium service, then they’re not your ideal client anyway. Want help with pricing accurately for profit? DM us!

24.01.2022 Spending money is a necessary part of building any trade business, but if you’re not careful, overhead costs can quickly become a serious cash drain. These are the fixed costs that need to get paid in your business, even when you don’t sell anything or do any work! Costs like: Salaries, rent, electricity, vehicle repayments, phones, bookkeeping, insurance etc. Your goal as a business owner, should be to keep your overheads as lean as possible without hindering growth and prod...uctivity of the business. This means carrying a light pack. Do not carry anything in your pack that is not essential for the climb of your business When you have too heavy of any overhead, your breakeven point goes up, which means it will be harder and harder to make the profit that you need to make to have a strong and healthy business. Figure out exactly what it costs to keep your doors open (build a list of all your expenses), and then review them! But don’t cut expenses that will slow down or halt you earning an income; just get rid of those unwanted expenses that are eating away at your profit! i.e. only carry essential items that need to go into your pack travel light!

24.01.2022 Websites! Most businesses have one, but is it actually any good? A website is a salesman for your business that never sleeps. It’s an essential marketing tool for you to use that takes your online prospects through a sales funnel in order to sell your services. A winning website is all about conversion; getting your online traffic to take action whether that’s booking you in or just getting in contact. If they aren’t taking action, you’ll lose them as a lead!... It’s not only a salesman, but also a point of authority it makes your business credible. People want to find more about you, so let them. But don’t just slap together a website for the sake of having one! You need to give it the necessary due diligence, care and attention required to strategically build it, so it works for you, not against you. This means it needs to have: (1) Effective Messaging: The website is the first point of contact for many people coming to your business, so you can’t afford to misinform, mislead or confuse them with incongruent or non-existent messaging it’s a terrible first impression. On a website, written content is king and way more important than aesthetics. That’s why it’s critical you do a good job building quality content. (2) Professional Design: Your website needs to look professional. Approximately 75% of customers admit to judging a business’s credibility based on the website design alone! Considering over 90% of people look at websites when deciding which trade business to use, you can’t afford to have either an outdated or flawed website design. The truth is, your websites conversion rate can increase by well over 200% when designed strategically! (3) Good Functionality: It needs to be fast (load in 3 seconds or less); it needs to be easy to use; it needs to be secure; it needs to be mobile-friendly and so on How does your trade business website checkout against our checklist?

21.01.2022 ‘Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work’ - truer words never spoken. Opportunity is everywhere (especially for trades businesses), but only if you’re willing to not only look for it... but ALSO do what is required to capitalise on it! Never let opportunities pass you by from fear of putting in work - what’s worth the prize is always worth the fight - focus, set a goal, prioritise, delegate where possible and push yourself to take advantage of the opportunities around you!

20.01.2022 Want better results for your marketing efforts? Try launching a lumpy mail gift campaign for your top clients and referral partners! We focused on the top 10 clients of an electrical contracting client of ours. Researched as much information as we could about these people, and then used this data to find personalised gifts to symbolise the relationship and show our client’s appreciation!... One gift was a Sakai Jikko Aogami Blue Steel Santoku Knife crafted by a respected 100-year-old Japanese manufacturer that compare their blades to that of samurai quality. Along the blade edge we had engraved ‘Handcrafted exclusively for (client’s name)’ in cursive, accompanied by a short and simple handwritten note to give perfect context to the gift, and had it couriered directly to the target’s office. The result was incredible! He was completely blown away and lost for words by the experience The appreciation and gratitude towards the thoughtful gift was even greater than expected. The next week, a job valued at $30,000+ was sent directly to our client’s company without any opportunity for other contractors to tender! And even more importantly, the relationship was much stronger and there are now greater opportunities moving forward!

20.01.2022 The large majority of trade businesses live from hand to mouth, receiving money from one job and spending it on another and sadly with no idea of how profitable each job is, or whether they have actually made any money on that job or not. Without knowing how a job went, you run the risk of taking on jobs that aren’t actually profitable, never identifying where the right opportunities to make more money are, OR never understanding your pricing, performance and outcomes, and y...ou could be earning significantly less money than you should be! So, what do you do...? Click on the article below to read more!

17.01.2022 WHY YOU NEED TO STOP CONFUSING MARKUP WITH MARGIN! Most trade business owners’ price their jobs thinking there’s a lot of profit in them but when they actually complete the work, there just isn’t anyway near as much money in their bank account as what they thought there should have been. Chances are, they made the same pricing mistake that 80% of trade business owners make they simply slapped a random mark-up on top of their job costs with no clear idea of WHY they’re setti...ng that price in the first place. 16.01.2022 Branding is hands down, without a doubt, one of the most misunderstood functions within any trade business. To the large majority, it’s just something used to get a business’s name out into the market through vehicle decals, slapping together some social media platforms, generic websites, etc. all in the hope of attracting some extra work. _ As a result, it’s clear that most trade business owners don’t actually know how to go about branding in the right way AND/OR they don’t... even prioritise it (it’s not their area of expertise). This, however, is incredibly dangerous. _ Effective branding is the most sure-fire approach to keeping your business consistently full of not only more work, but also higher quality work. _ Incorporate all of these elements together to form a strong bond with your audience, prospects and customers. Without it, your iceberg is likely going to melt among the hot and noisy marketplace around you. _ This is not the entire game-plan but it's a rough idea of what you can research and look into to strengthen your online AND offline presence. Start with what’s below the surface! _ Click on the link below to see the post!

15.01.2022 Within every adversity is the seed of an equal or greater benefit... the wise words from Napoleon Hill. When things get tough and seem like they aren’t quite going your way, take a step back, remove your emotions, and try to see the forest for the trees. There’s always another angle, there’s always a hidden benefit, and there’s always another opportunity.... Whether or not you see it however, that’s up to you.

15.01.2022 Are you SCARED to make more money? Because lot of other trade business owners are and we believe that this ultimately comes down to an unhealthy relationship with money. Ask yourself: Did your elders ever scold rich people? Were you told money is the root of all evil? Do you feel uncomfortable talking about money?... Was your family always tight with money growing up? For many, this unhealthy relationship carries over into their business life, often causing them to undercharge and negotiate their own price with themselves in bed late at night! To be profitable in business, you have to understand that making money is NOT a bad thing, and as a business owner, being successful and wealthy is your DUTY. Why the heck would you want to take on the risk of running a business if you don’t want to be rewarded for your efforts? If you’re a good person, money will give you the opportunity to amplify your ability to do more good, for more people! Make it your goal to MAKE MORE MONEY!

15.01.2022 Did you know that if you aren’t paid within 30 days of delivering your service, the chances of ever seeing that money drops significantly? Aged and unpaid invoices can threaten the life of your business and unfortunately, many trade businesses fail to collect money owed, and end up on life support because they fall victim to the same three fatal mistakes... 14.01.2022 We're living in a time of absolute uncertainty and this crisis has really pulled the rug out from most trade businesses. We’re being forced to innovate, forced to change, forced to live differently, and forced to work differently! There are two things that evolution dictates however, one; you keel over and die, or two; you evolve and adapt. You learn to work in the new paradigms of your environment. We can't change what happens around us, so we MUST innovate our businesses an...d evolve. 12.01.2022 When talking numbers and finance, it’s can be easy to get lost and confused with so many differing definitions, opinions and interpretations out there. ‘Profit’ is one area where people struggle and it’s understandable why! Overall, there are 3 primary types of profit: Gross Profit, Operating Profit and Net Profit.... Gross Profit is the profit your business has made after all directly related job costs have been paid. Direct job costs include labour, materials, subcontractors, etc. Operating Profit (or Earnings Before Incomes Tax EBIT) is the profit leftover from your gross profit after your overheads have been paid. Overheads are the costs in your business that need to get paid to keep the doors open (even when you don’t sell anything). These costs include: (1) Fixed Costs: The costs that remain the same price every month like rent, salaries, vehicle repayments, etc. and (2) Variable Costs: The costs that can change price every month like marketing, electricity, indirect labour costs, etc. Net Profit (or net income) is what’s left over from your operating profit after your taxes have been paid. If you’re a sole trader, this will be your personal income tax. If you’re a proprietary business, this will be the company tax rate. This will give you a true indication of whether your business is actually profitable or not. It’s important to note that this is NOT your salary! This is your financial ‘pat on the back’ (on top of your salary) for taking on the risk of running a business! If you have any questions or queries regarding your numbers, don’t hesitate to DM us!

11.01.2022 New Zealand’s national rugby team, the All Blacks, are the most successful professional sports franchise in history, undefeated in over 75% of their international matches over the last 100 years. 11.01.2022 Contrary to popular belief, discipline does not mean being harsh toward yourself or living a limited and restrictive life. Discipline means self control. It is a sign of inner strength and control over yourself, your actions and your reactions.... It is the power to stick to your decisions, take whatever necessary action is required and follow through with your ambitions and goals. Discipline, is in many ways, one’s accountability. Do you have the discipline to do what needs to be done in your business and personal life, whether you feel like it or not?

09.01.2022 Ever feel like a sleazy salesman when you’re selling? Feeling awkward and off when trying to pitch to a prospect? If this is the case, you’re likely doing it wrong... There are two overarching approaches to selling! 1. Pushing and; 2. Pulling Most people associate selling with pushing. This is where the salesman pushes the prospect into making a buying decision. Think sleazy second-hand car salesman! The approach you want is PULLING. This is where the salesman hands over control to the prospect by asking them questions. This is so they can begin pulling themselves towards a purchase! While it’s the prospect’s job to convince themselves into making a purchase, it’s your job to guide them! Make it your objective to add at least 5 questions into your sales process. You’ll be amazed at what happens next! Click on the link below to see the post! https://www.instagram.com/p/CDx5oB2FYJq/

09.01.2022 When it comes to marketing your trade business, there are three fundamental elements that you MUST consider: 1. Market: who is your market? 2. Message: what is your message to this market?... 3. Media: how do you plan on getting your message in front of this market? Although simple, very few people actually nail these three steps in the marketing of their trade business. They struggle to understand who their market is, they struggle to actually identify, refine and develop a powerful and CLEAR message (congruent across their entire business), and they struggle to communicate effectively or consistently in their chosen media both online AND offline. But why do so many trade business owners struggle to market? Click on the link below to read more!

08.01.2022 Want to know one of the most effective and powerful ways to grow your business? Form a strategic alliance! An alliance is an arrangement between two or more businesses to accomplish a mutually beneficial goal. This could be entering a new market, winning a new type of work, producing a better offer, referring work to each other or even sharing client databases By forming an alliance, the parties involved achieve more together in collaboration than they ever could indiv...idually. One of the most important considerations to making an alliance work however, is making sure that it is equally beneficial. This ensures a truly cooperative spirit, rather than an unequal balance of power. Click on the link below to see the post! https://www.instagram.com/p/CENZhuGlDie/

08.01.2022 Most trade business owners seem to make the same costly mistake they have a volume driven mindset! Are you in business to be busy or to make a profit? In this example below, you can see that if you increase your average quote price by just $100 (From $500 to $600) you can afford to drop 40% of the amount of jobs you complete annually (From 1,000 to 600) and STILL make $20,000 extra gross profit! What good is work for work’s sake! It's not about the turnover of a business, it...'s all about what's leftover. Slowing down your workflow while increasing your profit allows you to get your time back, deliver a higher quality service, focus on winning work from ideal clients and most importantly... work ON your business, rather than in it! But how do you go about successfully increasing your prices? The key is to implement an effective and proactive marketing and sales strategy that showcases MASSIVE value for your clients! Some strategies to try: Develop an irresistible offer Build up-sell check list Build a stronger brand Have a tiered pricing model Showcase professionalism online AND offline Use education-based selling Craft a superior guarantee Set up a winning online marketing machine DM us for more.

07.01.2022 DOWNLOAD OUR FREE, 3-STEP, MILLION DOLLAR MARKETING FORMULA! Marketing (aka finding and attracting more work) is hands down, without a doubt, the most misunderstood function within any trade business regardless of the size! To the large majority, marketing is just something that is used to get a business’s name out into the market through vehicle decals, slapping together some social media platforms for the sake of it, generic websites, etc. all in the hope of attracting som...e extra work to the business. This is a recipe for marketing disasters And it's why so many trade business owners end up wasting a lot of money on marketing initiatives, only to dismiss marketing altogether in the end because they think it ‘doesn’t work’. The truth is, marketing is the most sure-fire approach to consistently keeping your business full of not only more work, but also higher quality work! This won't happen if your marketing is random or poorly developed. To build marketing infrastructure that WORKS, you need to follow the process that 99% of trade business owners don’t know OR understand how to pull off!

07.01.2022 No big caption today... just a few short words. Tough times never last, but TOUGH PEOPLE DO! The world is a crazy place right now, and there are a lot of added challenges to running a business, so whatever you’re going through, hang in there!

05.01.2022 Old mate down the road is $3,000 cheaper Every trade business owner’s favourite conversation Do you ever experience price pressure from your customers or prospects?... With so many cowboys in the industry dangerously low balling their competition, they all play a critical part in driving the value of your service into the ground The real kicker is however, people that price that low, likely don’t understand their financial figures, they don’t understand their breakeven, they don’t understand their margins and mark up and they don’t actually understand how to price. These people AREN’T MAKING ANY MONEY, in fact, they are LOSING MONEY and more often than not they don’t stick around long. A lack of profit forces them out of the market. So, what happens to you if you try to beat them at their own game? You CANNOT afford to compromise your price to race these cowboys to the bottom of the barrel. There will always be someone lower than you, because of this, you must be EMPHASISING and EDUCATING your clients on the value that you bring to the table. You are obligated to sell people on value - getting them to pay you more money, so that they don’t WASTE money on somebody else. It’s protection you protect people by getting them to pay you exactly what you’re worth, so they don’t spend it on someone else who can’t perform as well as you. If they are STILL adamant on price, they likely aren’t the right client for you anyway and handing them off is probably going to save you in more than one way
