One of the most important aspects of pricing correctly is to not only understand the difference between mark-up and margin (see our post), but also understand how they RELATE to each other. When pricing a job, most trade business owners simply slap a mark-up on top of their job costs with no clear idea of WHY they’re setting that price.... You need to be marking up your jobs based on a pre-defined gross profit target. How? Simple. You can either use the equation provided OR use the Margin to Markup Conversion Table as a guide.
