23.01.2022 Day 186. Balance and coordination with stimulus. A simple throw and catch is a great way to challenge stability, as you can see its quite challenging, an exercise that requires full control of your body not just your ankle #stability #sportstherapy #myotherapy #kneerehab #myotherapy #aclrecovery #aclrehab #trademarktherapy #gym #strength #activation #balance

21.01.2022 BENEFITS OF USING THE EXXENTRIC KBOX FLYWHEEL The Science Science Part 1: Inertia.... Using inertia rather than gravity as your main source of resistance, you are able to work at your maximum effort for longer. Lets break this down a bit further. In a normal gym environment where you are lifting weights and your goal was to lift 80% of your maximum weight. Well use 80kg as an example. Realistically you would expect that you would only be able to perform a handful of repetitions prior to needing to stop or adjust the weight. Your workout would be short, and your repeatability would be quite limited. On the K-box Flywheel, weight, or kilogram isnt the resistance you are working against. You are working against the speed and the force you are able to generate into the wheel. Early repetitions will have high speed and force. Naturally, they will both drop as you fatigue. But rather than stopping, you will continue working at your "80%" until you reach your target repetition. This allows you to work at your target effort for longer. Science Part 2: Eccentric Overload. Our muscles are at their strongest when we lengthen them. They also respond to load the best in this situation. For example, performing a bicep curl, focus on extending your arm, rather than performing the conventional curl. The difficulty of performing this in a classical gym environment and create eccentric overload, you would need to lift heavy, more than what you are comfortable in a conventional training session. You would need to have a partner to assist you to return the weight back to your shortened position (Eg. The curl position). Secondly, you would fatigue really quickly. Reducing the number of repetitions you would be able to perform. The K-box Flywheel has the ability to create an eccentric overload far more simply than you would with conventional training. Another advantage, the variations you are able to create with the K-box Flywheel with eccentric overload can further individualise your workout. If you are looking to put on size, your overload would be slow and "heavy". If you recovering from a hamstring injury, the focus of your overload might be towards speed. Something that is difficult to replicate in a gym. https://twitter.com/i/status/911243723845115904

15.01.2022 Emotion: A word that is more relevant now than what it might have been in the past. Not seeing our friends or family, not going out, uncertainties, all create different emotions.... The word EMOTION can be broken down into 2 parts. There is the E which stands for energy, And Motion which means to move or movement. Motion and energy change our Emotion Understanding this is really important now more than ever, at a time where we feel that our movement is being restricted. Understanding what you can do from the comfort of your small apartment, will have a positive influence on how you respond to the restrictions that have been put in place. Focused breathing isnt just about resetting the mind, when you break it down, we are expanding our lungs, our diaphragm and rib cage. We are increasing the circulation of oxygen and minerals and proteins throughout the body. These movements, both conscious and subconscious all work towards bringing positive energy to ourselves. Standing up tall is another easy motion that can change your emotion. Right now we know we are limited to one hour of exercise per day, feel comfortable knowing that you do not have to use the full hour. Focus on 10 minutes blocks. These 10 minutes arent for getting fitter or to start working on your 6 pack. Its about revitalising our energy and emotion Ten minutes of getting outside, even if that is just to your balcony, or going for a walk around your block, put a raincoat on and take an umbrella. Your nervous system is stimulated, which assists your subconscious to changes from a fight or flight mentality to rest and recover. Pay attention to the noise, the wind, the cold. Breathe. All these stimuli go towards calming the nervous system down If you are feeling unproductive, have a shower. The action of standing up, getting into the shower, the feeling of hot water as it hits our bodies, and finally the act of getting dressed. If there is one simple message that you can take away from this, look forward to your 10-minute blocks where you can move, get up and do something that is not getting you ahead of your emails. Shift your energy, shift your motion, and it will go a long way to keeping your emotion in check. Tal - Summary of Emma Murrays interview

10.01.2022 Over the last few seasons, we have been involved in providing injury prevention and running programs to various clubs. Over the seasons we have had really positive responses to the programs with a massive reduction in the number of injuries sustained at the clubs. So with current conditions cancelling most winter sports competitions in victoria, now is the time to start preparing for next year.... We will share with you a selection of exercises and guidelines that should be performed each week. We have taken into account that most people do not have equipment at home, so the exercises are reflective of this. Exercises to performed twice per week - 2 days break between days Tempo = seconds to perform the exercise - eg. 1sec up, 0 sec hold, 1 sec down Keynotes: Nordic curl - slow and controlled, hips tucked in, find your sticky point where you feel if you go any further you fall. Reverse nordic - Hips tucked in, hands across your chest, work on your range Double leg bridge - Strong knees, hips tucked in, lift your hips up so that there is a straight line between your knees, hips and shoulders. Squeeze your bum at the top, control the squeeze on the decent Side plank - Hips up tall, keep your top shoulder open Single leg calf raises - Perform as many as you can until failure. Controlled movement, 1 sec up 1 sec down. Coming up tall on to your big toe. Failure = any of the following - not coming up as high, fatigue, lack of control

05.01.2022 I recently took part in a mini-course that was offered by Athletes Authority on how to Master your Mental game. (I would highly recommend it) and while it was directed to athletes, amateur to professional the basis of the content was relevant to all aspects of our lives. So I want to share with you 3 key points that I think a lot of us would find helpful during the current climate (especially here in Victoria) 1 - One of the main things that people are struggling with at the ...moment is how to deal with their expectations. Pre-COVID our expectations were at a certain level and we had certain goals that we wanted to reach We need to all see COVID as a new chapter in our lives, you need to re-evaluate your expectations for the new chapter. If you do not, there will always be a sense of failure for not meeting your expectations which in turn leads to negative feelings. 2 - Secondly, do not isolate yourself. If you are struggling with something, find yourself two people who are also chasing the same goal. Ideally, one should be someone that is succeeding in meeting that goal, and one that is not. Having a successful partner creates something or someone whom you are trying to reach, and having a less successful partner creates a sense of needing to maintain a buffer so that they do not catch you. This is something that is used as part of a motivation plan for exercise, but I believe it has merit in other aspects of our lives too. 3 - Lastly, understand what habits translate to positive actions. For example, on the days that you get out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off tend to be more successful than the ones where you snooze a few times. Now, this is a very basic example but is important to be able to self evaluate. The more positive habits that you are able to repeat on a daily basis, will in turn lead to more productive and successful days. I hope you find at least one of these tips helpful, Tal
