25.01.2022 When you’re a tradie, you often have a chip on your shoulder. You worry about how society sees you. I felt like that once, too. There are some pretty bad tradies out there, that’s for sure. They’re rude and unprofessional. They tarnish the image that people have of us.... But you shouldn’t get into business focusing on what other people think of you. That won’t lead to success. It’s time to get rid of that chip on your shoulder. Why? Because the world is a mirror. Your customers’ behaviour reflects your own. If you're leading your business with a chip on your shoulder, you project that onto your clients. This undermines your personal value. When you’re professional and courteous, the customer will value you more. They’ll treat you with respect. So how do you get there? You need to start with the right mindset. You studied long and hard to qualify for the job you’re doing. You deserve the respect of your community. In most cases, you’ll get that respect if you show up ready to help your customers. That will lead to a healthy and sustainable profit. The approach you take will influence your clients’ beliefs about you. And if something negative gets into your head, it will become true! If you convince yourself that something bad will happen, it frickin’ will! You’ll have created it. When you believe in yourself and talk to customers with a positive attitude, they’ll perceive you as professional and competent. As someone they want to do business with. What you have inside your mind, will manifest on the outside. Here’s an example Around 20 years ago, I went to buy a car. I chose a red Mitsubishi Pajero. And suddenly, everywhere I looked I saw red Mitsubishi Pajeros! I was thinking about my new car, and my mind started picking it up everywhere even though I wasn't actively looking for it. It’s the same with business. See yourself as an expert, and your clients will too. Respect yourself, and your customers will give you the respect you deserve.

24.01.2022 Time is our most valuable currency. But, do you have enough of it? If you’re not sure, let me ask you this... Have you ever been in a situation where you’re like: Oh, I was going to get it done, but I ran out of time. You must have said and heard someone else say this a thousand times. The truth is, everyone has the same amount of time. There are 168 hours in every single week after all. The question now is, what are you doing with those hours? If you’re not regularly doing a time audit and finding out where those hidden time-wasters are sitting, you might want to start right away. Are those tasks that you hate to do? Could you be doing something else that could earn you more money? A lot of business owners have found that outsourcing their sales training makes so much sense. They’d be wasting time doing stuff that they’re not good at otherwise. There are a couple of benefits to outsourcing your sales training. First, it gets something off your to-do list. You get more time to focus on things that you’re good at and on growing your business. Second, you get better results. Your salespeople will make more money for you so that's a no-brainer. The point is that you can stop torturing yourself with tasks that you don't enjoy. Think about how much money this is costing you when you can invest that time into making money for your business. Furthermore, you want to think about what else are you wasting money on and how much money this is costing you. That’s why it’s so important to do a time audit every once in a while. Are you wasting time on something that you’re not good at? Or are you making the best use of your time?

23.01.2022 Today, I want to talk about a phenomenal book by Dr Robert Cialdini called Influence. In the book, Dr Cialdini describes what he discovered through studying hundreds of different sales professionals. And there's one thing in the book that I would like to focus on here.... Analysing the sales techniques used by different people, Dr Cialdini saw that they fell into six categories. And this turned out to be really important not only for sales but for marketing as well. Here are the categories, in no particular order: 1. Liking. People prefer to do business with people they like - it's pretty straightforward. However, it turned out that if you choose between a person you like and another you don't, you could be willing to pay the more likeable professional up to 20 or 30% more! 2. Social proof. If I tell you I'm good, it doesn't mean anything. But if someone else tells you I'm good, that matters a lot. That's the value of testimonials and positive reviews. 3. Authority. How do you build authority? By becoming more of a specialist than a generalist. When you specialise, you take a narrow field of work that you know everything about, which translates into authority. 4. Consistency. People love to see patterns. That’s why when they see an outline with several steps leading to an outcome, they'll decide on a purchase more quickly. The fact is that a consistent process will have a tremendously positive influence on buyers. 5. Scarcity. Whenever you can create some sort of urgency, you can influence people to buy your product or service. Think ‘Closing down sale’, ‘Last in stock’, ‘Final offer’, and similar messages. 6. Reciprocity. When I do something for you, you'll feel obliged to do something for me. In fact, Dr Cialdini found out that if you do something small for the customer, they might reciprocate with something of higher value. Now, can you think about how you can apply these principles in your business?

19.01.2022 Do you know who you are? And do you know how much this affects the power you have? There’s a direct relationship between knowing who you are and what you want, and what you need to do or learn to achieve your goals.... The level of clarity you have determines your power. It doesn’t matter if you’re busy. You need to invest time in developing absolute clarity about what you want. For example, my goal is for every Tradie in Australia to understand their numbers. Because, as I’ve said before, you have to know your numbers if you want to make money. When you don’t, you keep working harder, but you’re not getting more successful. You’re just going bust faster. So what are your goals? If you’re clear on your values, this will help you determine your goals. Psychologists have discovered something crucial here. The more your behaviour is consistent with your ideals, the more you respect yourself and the happier you are. When you have absolute clarity on your goals, you're on your way to becoming happy and victorious. Do you need more skills, education, contacts? Be clear on your needs and get moving. That’s the one of the purposes of having clear goals. They get you into motion. Be aware that I don’t have a medical degree or claim this is absolutely true, but I’ll tell you something that I’ve heard from many people. Sometimes, your reality feels disconnected from the vision of the life you want to have and the place you want to be. You may find yourself in a depressive state. Clinical depression is another thing, of course. But when people are in a depressive state, they feel like they should be on a higher level and they don’t accept their reality. So at that point, you need to take on the feedback and return to a favourable spot. The higher your self worth, the higher your net worth. The more you like yourself, the more you’ll look after yourself. And the more money you will make.

17.01.2022 We all have that inner voice in our heads, our self-talk mechanism. Its fundamental role is to keep us safe. It’s there for a positive reason, but sometimes it holds us back. It stops us from trying new things or asking for help.... It’s wired to look for negative stuff and potential dangers in business and life to protect us. Over time, it becomes more and more negative. And we become more tired, uninspired, and unfit. So what can you do? You can train your brain. Your brain is like a muscle. You can use it to learn new things and become an expert in any area of your life. But if you don’t use it, you lose it. There’s good news, of course. With proper training and the right mental diet, you can rebuild your brain. It's like when you were first learning how to walk or ride a bike. It didn't just take physical strength. You needed lots of mental and emotional energy to overcome failure. When you first tried to walk, you fell over a lot, right? I’ll tell you a story, though I can’t remember who told it to me. It’s about these young parents and their baby. The baby stands up for the first time and tries to walk. And falls over. And the parents say, Oh, no, he’s not going to be a walker! It sounds silly, doesn’t it? Parents don’t say that about their baby! But that’s what we do to ourselves. So be a loving parent to yourself. Give yourself a break. Whatever you're doing, don't give up after one time. Forget that failure and try again. Even if you fall over and it hurts, you need to get back up and spend more time, energy, and effort. Soon, it will become second nature. You’ll do it without thinking. It’s no different when you’re learning how to make a sale or run a business. Your ideas will get rejected. People will say no to you many times. You'll wonder how you can ever do it But through practice and training, it will become effortless.



17.01.2022 What you think about you bring about. This is what comes after The world is a mirror. Every person is a living magnet. Your thoughts are magnetic fields, and they attract the things you think about.... The world around you becomes a reflection of the world inside you. It mirrors back to you. What do you think about? What do unsuccessful people think about? They can’t control their thoughts and actually think about things they don’t want to happen. They can’t stop thinking about their fears. Unsuccessful people only focus on the negative, on their worries and concerns. Their outer world reflects their thoughts they blame others for their misfortunes. So will it be success or failure? It depends on your focus. So, what is your goal? Maybe you want to create a net worth of $5 million, run a big trade business, and take your family on a month-long vacation to Hawaii. Whatever your goals are, the steps to achieve them are the same: Write down your goals and read them a few times a day. Visualise yourself achieving each goal, actually doing what you’ve written down. Then change your behaviour to align with that goal. The last step might be the most important. If you don’t do something to reach your goals, writing them down doesn’t work. For example, let’s say you want to build that $5 million business. But you’re enjoying yourself in a casino every weekend. You’re losing money. You may be having fun, but your actions are not in line with your purpose and your goals. You know that famous movie, The Secret? It talks about attracting things just by thinking about them. Well, it’s a bunch of nonsense. Because it’s not enough to think about the things you want. You need to alter your behaviour to fit your goals. So how do you do that? Answer these four questions, and you're halfway there. What do I need to start doing today? What do I need to stop doing today? What do I need to do more of? What do I need to do less of? And then do it.

13.01.2022 In the last post, I talked about sales principles as explored by Dr Robert Cialdini in his book Influence. I outlined six categories that Dr Cialdini talked about, which are liking, social proof, authority, consistency, scarcity, and reciprocity. Undoubtedly, each of the six is important and has a massive role to play in sales. However, I find reciprocity incredibly fascinating and it stood out the most to me. ... Imagine this: You're a plumber. And a customer asks that you tighten up their toilet seat. You do it at no charge. But in exchange, they agree to a $2,000 job. Does that sound impossible? Well, that's how reciprocity works - because you made a small, free adjustment, the customer feels more obliged to do something nice for you. In fact, Dr Cialdini tested out this principle in practice. He was selling raffle tickets, but he approached the sale with a twist: Dr Cialdini gave out bottles of Coke before offering the tickets. He would meet strangers on the street, saying, Hi! Would you like a Coke? By the way, I'm selling raffle tickets. A bottle of Coke was worth only 50 cents. Without the handout, Dr Cialdini managed to charge about $2 or $3 per ticket. Meanwhile, offering a free Coke allowed him to sell the tickets for $10 each. By throwing in a small freebie of low value, Dr Cialdini managed to get 20 times more value out of his sales compared to when he was offering only the tickets. As the example shows, reciprocity can be a powerful force in sales and marketing. The psychological mechanism is so simple that it seems like it would never work Yet, it works perfectly! It's worth mentioning that reciprocity has much to do with being likeable. Can you imagine your reaction if a sinister-looking stranger approached you on the street and offered you a freebie? That's precisely what we teach kids to run away from. So, I would add this as advice: Offer to do a small thing without charge, and do it kindly.

11.01.2022 In one of my previous emails, I talked about having the right mindset. I told you how powerful your thoughts are how they control your mind and your attitude. So what does that mean when it comes to setting goals? Setting goals is essential in business. Your goals give you a clear vision of where you’re going. And if you set a goal the right way, you’ll have more confidence while working on it.... But sometimes it’s how you articulate your goals that’s really important. So I want you to be as confident as possible. Instead of being insecure, say: I am. I will. When you talk about your goals, talk about them in absolutes. It doesn’t matter if you’re talking to yourself about your plans or telling other people what you’re going to do. Does it make sense to talk in absolutes? Yes. If you say that you are and you will, instead of you could or you might, it gives you confidence. Goal-setting is not about later, or the end of the day. It’s about what’s happening now. The end of the day is now, and that's where your focus should be. Not everyone understands, but words have lots of power. The words we tell other people, and especially those that we tell ourselves. Our words shape our mindsets. They give us confidence Or make us lose it! So having the right mindset and telling yourself the right words can help you gain more confidence in your business. Tell yourself that you’ll make more sales. You’ll trust yourself and control the sale. Be confident you understand the system of selling. You’ll see how it affects your sales in reality. It’s just a tiny tweak in your thoughts, but it goes a long way. It changes the power of the conversation. Our words have a lot of power. Other people’s not so much. Other people don’t have much to do with what we tell ourselves. But our words control our thoughts. And our thoughts control our actions. So make sure you tell yourself the right things.

04.01.2022 Let me tell you a bit about me and my background. I won’t be going into the gory details here, but some profound events marked my life. I had a lot of stuff to deal with in my younger years. All those things had an impact on who I was, and who I am today. And at some point, I decided that I wouldn’t let those experiences define me. I had to make changes in my life. I had to look for answers.... If I hadn’t, I’d be quite dysfunctional today. And I certainly wouldn’t be where I am now. That’s how my journey of personal development started. I had to deal with some things. I spent lots of money on it probably hundreds of thousands of dollars but it was worth it. I worked with a guy named Dr. John Demartini. He’s awesome! He’s a polymath, which means he’s an expert who’s studied five areas. I studied both modern and traditional stuff courses with Tony Robbins, negotiation at Sydney Uni all sorts of things. I even learned hypnosis. Don't mock it, because you may end up turning into a chicken! Now, let’s get serious. Hypnosis is real. Many people don’t even know what hypnosis is. There are so many misconceptions out there. For instance, you probably don’t realise that you get hypnotised all the time. You've all been there, and you don't even know it. Let me give you an example, so you’ll understand what I mean. You’re driving home after work. You're exhausted, and when you get to your house, you feel confused. You’re like, "I don’t even remember driving home! That’s a hypnotic trance. Here’s another example. It's Saturday afternoon, and you’ve been playing a poker machine at a club for hours. You got carried away. That's also a kind of trance hypnosis. But hypnosis isn’t just losing track of time. Hypnosis can actually become a state of expanded awareness. I’ll give you more information about this next time...

01.01.2022 When are you going to change?

01.01.2022 Do you ever talk to yourself? I’m sure you do - we all do. Everyone has that little voice in their head that keeps talking to them.... But the question is What is that voice saying to you? Is your inner voice your friend? A friendly voice that supports your decisions and cheers you on? Or is the voice negative? It is, if it’s holding you back based on fear or doubt. The reality is that we can all influence this voice inside our heads. And the way to do it is through our mental diet. Filter the information that you’re consuming. It’s just like what we eat. You can choose whether to eat junk food or healthy food, for example. So, what are you feeding your mind? Pay attention to what you’re watching. If you’re only taking in the negative information that you see on TV or social media, it’s going to be all that you can think about. Even when you’re not aware of it. Who are you hanging out with? If you hang out with negative people, you’re going to be negative as well. More importantly, do you have a vision of what you want to do in the future? What are the places that you want to go to in the future? Do you have your goals? If you don’t have these things, it can be very hard to keep that inner voice positive. You’ll want to work on all of that if you haven’t already. Furthermore, do you know what’s probably one of the most underutilized things that can get that voice inside our heads to go in a positive manner? That’s actually exercise. And it’s something that every one of us can do. Get out, get moving, and enjoy the fresh air. That’s going to quiet the little voice or turn it positive.
