25.01.2022 With the Summer weather in full swing and some hot days to come over the weekend remember to be sun smart and TCM summer smart. The obvious stuff; wear sunscreen, keep covered, try and not go out during the day and drink plenty of water. The TCM stuff; Avoid eating too much cold in nature foods as it can damage your stomach, drink room temperature water rather than ice water, and drinking green tea to help fend off the summer heat. Be safe and sensible in the hot weather and take care.

25.01.2022 If you feel yourself feeling flat during the day or you have been sitting at your desk and get the 2 o’clock yawns, try getting up and doing some light stretches. Getting up and moving around helps invigorate your Qi/energy. Stretching is also great first thing in the morning, this helps wake up the body and get your Qi moving so the day can begin. It can help shake off that sluggishness you might get when you first wake up in the morning. Try to incorporate this into your e...veryday routine, maybe waiting for the kettle to boil or someone to reply to an email. Get up, reach your hands to the sky whilst keeping your back straight then bend down to touch your toes. Or reach one arm pushing upwards to the sky and one arm towards the floor. If you want to know more about stretching or little things you can do during the day to invigorate your Qi give Nic a call or send a message on 0487 770 316 ! See more

23.01.2022 Hey everyone, I still have some appointments available for next week, Wednesday 30th of September. One of the 4 reasons you can leave the 5km radius is to receive care, If you must travel more than this 5km radius you will have a text message confirmation that will confirm your appointment with me. Acupuncture can be great for back pain, stress, sleep issues, menopause, and many other issues that you may be dealing with due to lockdowns and restrictions. With hayfever season now in full swing, acupuncture and herbal medicine can also be fantastic for treating these symptoms and preventing them in the future. Call or message Nic on 0487 770 316 to book an appointment or if you have any questions relating to TCM I am always happy to chat.

22.01.2022 As many of you know Melbourne is in Stage 4 lock downs, due to this, the government and AHPRA has advised that Acupuncturist and Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners close their doors for at least the next 6 weeks whilst Melbourne regroups and takes control of this virus. I am still available for herbal medicine consultations virtually and always happy to give advice or have a chat about how TCM can better your life. We will get through this together as a community if we all do the right things, wearing masks and staying home. Take care, Nicholas Watson TCM.

22.01.2022 Health and well being is a journey and in Chinese Medicine we understand this. TCM is not a one solution fixes all, it views people as individuals and each person is slightly different. This is what separates TCM from Western Medicine (GPs). There are many treatments for one condition. Start this health journey by booking an appointment or calling Nic on 0487 770 316 and learn how TCM can help you.

20.01.2022 I have some last minute availabilities for Friday afternoon 11/12. Message me to book or book online here: https://nicholas-watson-traditional-chinese-medicine.au1.cl

19.01.2022 The lower Dan Tian, the life gate, REN 4, lower abdomen. This area has many names and performs many functions. In Qi Gong, the Dan Tian is where the Qi is stored. Deep breathing from the lower abdomen (Dan Tian) helps the Qi or energy circulate around the body. In acupuncture, this point helps nourish the Qi, calm the mind and root the ethereal soul. Next time you are meditating or deep breathing think of your lower Dan Tian and breath from this point. If you would like to learn more about how you can incorporate Qi Gong, deep breathing or acupuncture into your every day life message or call Nic on 0487 770 316.

18.01.2022 Summer here in Melbourne means that the sun is out. In TCM, summer is at most Yang. This season is all about movement and energy, opposed to winter which is about rest and recovery. A few tips and tricks about a TCM summer, avoid drinking and eating cold and icy food and beverages. Luke warm water is the best for the spleen to avoid any cold damage on your digestive system. If you are eating more salads, try and incorporate warm, cooked vegetables into your meals such as, asparagus, broccoli, bok choy. Making the most of the day without being in the heat of the day. If you would like to know more about how summer effects our body, how to live a TCM summer or would like to book an appointment please call Nic on 0487 770 316.

15.01.2022 Chinese Medicine and Tai Chi or Qi Gong are closely connected. I will often advise my patients to incorporate some Qi Gong into their daily life. The 8 Brocades or Ba Duan Jin is a pinnacle of Qi Gong and composed of 8 movements that help connect the upper and the lower parts of your body, activates your Qi (energy) and helps move blood around the body. The first movement is coined "Two Hands Hold Up The Heavens" Breathing in whilst raising your hands to the heavens helps bri...ng the Qi to your lungs and head. Breathing out as you slowly lower your hands to help descend the Qi back to the kidneys. Doing this simple movement 5-10 times a day can not only help with deep breath but can be beneficial for upper and lower back pain. If you would like to learn more about how you can use the 8 brocades or Qi Gong in your life message or call Nic on 0487 770 316. See more

07.01.2022 Sleep is one of the most overlooked part of lives yet, whenever we feel low or flat, we blame our sleepless nights. We need at least 7 hours of sleep to function during the day, yet most people will get by on a lot less than that. In TCM, sleep is considered one of the most important aspects of diagnosis and finding the root cause of conditions. Acupuncture, herbal medicine and even cupping can help benefit sleep, including, falling to sleep, staying asleep and having a deeper, restful sleep. If you would like to know more about how I can you get a better nights sleep please do not hesitate to call Nic on 0487 770 316 and organise an appointment.

07.01.2022 Are headaches a normal part of your day? Been trying to do everything right, drinking more water, having less screen time but still getting these persistent headaches that just will not budge? Acupuncture may be the answer. In TCM we view the body a little bit differently and treat symptoms rather than syndromes. This means that not every headache is the treated the same and every person is viewed as an individual. If you would like to know more about TCM or get rid of those stubborn headaches give Nic a call on 0487 770 316 to organise an appointment.

05.01.2022 During these unsettling times stress and anxiety can be extremely high. Take some time out of your day to be mindful about how you feel. Stop and take 5 deep breaths. With everything happening in the world right now, it is important to focus on self-care and your mental health. If you want to take some time to sit back, relax and get some acupuncture call or message Nic on 0487 770 316 to book an appointment.

03.01.2022 Is anxiety or depression something you deal with every day? Traditional Chinese Medicine views this a little bit differently. In TCM is it often seen as an imbalance in the body, something that can happen to everyone and something that acupuncture, and herbal medicine can help deal with. Whether it is only mild or severe it can have an impact on your day to day life, including issues involving sleep, digestion, concentration, and can sometimes manifest in pain that does not seem to have a cause. If this is something that you want to work on together and overcome, please do not hesitate to call or message Nic on 0487 770 316 with any questions you have regarding anxiety or depression and book an appointment.

02.01.2022 "Prevention is greater than cure" is a common theme within TCM. Hayfever season in Melbourne occurs around spring time and carries into the early summer with symptoms such as itching eyes, sneezing, and a runny nose. Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture has been known to help treat the symptoms of hay fever and if you start treating it early enough in the year it can also help prevent the symptoms coming on. If you suffer from hayfever or want to learn more about how to prevent other seasonal conditions message or call Nic on 0487 770 316.

01.01.2022 Getting acupuncture can be a daunting experience if you have never had it before or have had a bad experience in the past. Obviously, everyone's a little bit different, both practitioner and patient. Some people respond to needling better than others however, there are a few things you should expect out of your acupuncturist. One of the biggest things is that under no circumstances should needles be inserted through your clothing. If you are uncomfortable removing clothing a...nd exposing certain areas of your body, that is 100% okay. TCM is great at finding other ways to treat many conditions. Acupuncture should be relaxing, we leave the needles in for roughly 25 minutes and let them do their job. The sensation can be a dull heavy sensation, but should never be sharp and uncomfortable. Remember, when you are seeing a health professional, that is your time. If you are not comfortable or confident you have every right to speak up and question it. I love when my patients question why I choose certain points or talk about different TCM theories. If you have any questions about acupuncture or what you should expect when getting treatments please either comment below or give Nic a call on 048 770 316. See more

01.01.2022 Most people with digestive issues will just live through it or think that it is normal unless they are questioned on it. We are constantly thinking about what we are eating but not about how it is affecting us on the inside. TCM can be fantastic at treating all sorts of digestive issues from sluggish bowels, IBS, bloating, indigestion, acid reflux, diarrhea, constipation or any other complaint that may be arising from the bowels. Another common reason for having an upset stomach is stress. This is very common and TCM can offer a great deal to this pattern. If this is something you deal with everyday and want to find some relief do not hesitate to call or message Nic on 0487 770 316
