24.01.2022 PRINCES HIGHWAY CLOSED DUE TO A TRUCK FIRE A truck fire has closed the Princes Highway in both directions near the Billabong roadhouse at Fernbank. The truck ...caught fire just before 7am, on a section of the highway where centre barriers were recently installed. Sergeant Matt Tanner said the truck's fuel tank ruptured when it hit the barrier and the highway could remain closed at Fernbank until after midday. " We've got heavy haulage coming from Melbourne and then another two hours after that to try to get the vehicle off the road and once we get the vehicle off the road we'll have to have an inspection of the road surface due to the heat and see if there are any problems there." Detours are in place between Fernbank-Glenaladale Road and Lindenow-Meerlieu Road. Motorists are advised to go the back way on Bengworden Road. Police say the truck driver had minor injuries. by Jack Collins

21.01.2022 Today, we’re starting air scouring work in Trafalgar. This work will continue for the next few weeks, affecting different streets on different days. Customer...s affected will receive a notice in their letterbox at least five days before air scouring is happening in their street. If you find your water milky in appearance, let the tap run for a few moments so the extra air can flow through the system. You can also find a list of which streets are being affected on which days here: www.gippswater.com.au/current-works or contact us on 1800 057 057.

20.01.2022 Everyone in East Gippsland must be aware of the fire danger forecast for tomorrow and act today. Full info here: https://go.vic.gov.au/JYsnt6 Visitors to East ...Gippsland: If you are visiting East Gippsland you must leave today - Sunday 29 December and stay away on Monday 30 December. You are in danger if you are in the area as follows - in the high country from Omeo to Bonang all the way south through to the coast between east of Bairnsdale to Cann River. If you don’t leave today, road closures are likely to mean you are unable to get home. No one should be in remote forest areas in East Gippsland today and Monday. This includes anyone who is camping, driving, biking or walking in parks or forests. It is not possible to provide support and aid to all the visitors currently in the East Gippsland region. East Gippsland residents: If you live in East Gippsland now is the time to enact your fire plan. Where possible, move animals and livestock to safer locations. You need to move to a safer place, outside of East Gippsland, today as the risk of the fires becoming uncontrollable starts early Monday morning. Stay with friends or family outside the area. Stay very aware of messaging - and if you choose to leave do not delay Do not rely on firefighting crews being able to protect you and your property If you leave -register with Register.Find.Reunite online: register.redcross.org.au East Gippsland fires. People who are in far East Gippsland, including Cann River and Mallacoota, should consider what they will do if the Princes Highway is shut and they are isolated until the road can be reopened.

17.01.2022 Tonight DCO Steph Rotarangi joined the Premier & Minister in declaring a State of Disaster for parts of fire affected Victoria for the next 7 days. This step ha...s been taken to ensure we send the strongest possible message to our communities that their safety is our priority. If you can leave the East Gippsland and Hume Regions you absolutely must. This is the first time a State of Disaster has been declared in Victoria. This gives authorities greater power to ensure communities follow direction from emergency services personnel. We thank Victorians for their support. You can find the map and information for the North East here: https://www.emergency.vic.gov.au//update-for-ovens-valley- You can find the map and information about East Gippsland here: https://www.emergency.vic.gov.au//worsening-fire-condition You can view a high resolution version of this map here: https://files-em.em.vic.gov.au//20200102_2345_NE_and_Gipps

16.01.2022 Now is the time for people in East Gippsland to take action to keep themselves safe. If you are able to leave safely you should do so tonight or early tomorrow ...morning. If you are unable to leave you should take actions to prepare to shelter. There are hot, dry and windy weather conditions forecast for Friday and Saturday. Under these conditions all of the fires currently burning are likely to grow significantly and may become uncontrollable. New fire starts are likely as a result of lightning which is forecast to be a risk. Any lightning strikes in dry, drought affected forests have the potential to quickly become fires that threaten lives and homes. People who are in East Gippsland, in the Great Dividing Range area including Omeo, Swifts Creek and Ensay, should take the opportunity to leave today and travel to Wangaratta or Wodonga. If it is safe for you to leave you can travel to friends and family outside the potential impact area or travel to Bairnsdale. You can choose to stay in built up areas of Lakes Entrance. East Gippsland communities could be impacted today by a fire front, spot fires and ember attacks on homes, or major roads being closed resulting in communities being isolated. If the fires cross or threatens the Princes Highway it will be closed. Leave if you can: Communities in East Gippsland who are able to safely leave are encouraged to do so today or early on Friday. Travel to family and friends who are outside of the area. You can also travel to a relief centre. You can find out which relief centre is closest to you by visiting: https://www.emergency.vic.gov.au/relief/#relief_centres Before you travel check that your planned route and destination are not currently under threat of fire. While travelling in the area you should monitor weather conditions by listening to local or ABC radio as the situation may change quickly. When travelling take care on the roads and drive to the conditions. Smoke from these fires may impact visibility when driving. There are a number of major and local roads currently closed as a result of the fires. Further road closures may occur, including on roads that have recently been reopened, if they are threatened or impacted by fire. When you leave: When you leave you should take the following items with you: o Cash o Clothing for 3 days o Medicine for 3 days o Phone and chargers o Toiletries o Important documents o Mementos and photos o Pets essentials, including leash and carriers o Make sure you have enough petrol in your car If you are unable to leave: If you are unable to leave the area you should move to built up areas if it is safe to do so. Prepare to shelter by taking the following steps: o Have clothing that will protect you including a top with long sleeves and trousers. If you can wear clothing made from pure cotton or wool. Wear sturdy shoes or boots and heavy duty gloves. o Gather wool or heavy blankets. o If you currently have power you should charge you mobile phone. o Useful items to gather now includes a torch, batteries, a radio, a phone charger (or in car phone charger), battery back up packs, food and water, medical supplies and a first aid kit. o Consider your pets gather their food and water. o Move flammable items away from your home including furniture, doormats, wood and BBQs. A Neighbourhood Safer Place, also known as a Bushfire Place of Last Resort, is for when all other bushfire plans have failed and only if it is nearby. They do not guarantee safety but may offer some protection from flame and heat. Travelling to a Neighbourhood Safer Place can be dangerous. If you aren’t able to shelter in a building, other last resort options include: o Shelter in the middle of a large open area like a ploughed paddock, football oval or sporting reserve. o Get into a large body of water like a dam, lake, river, the ocean or inground pool. o Try to protect yourself from the fire's heat. Everyone in East Gippsland or who has left East Gippsland should register with Register.Find.Reunite online at register.redcross.org.au. This will assist both the emergency services and allow your loved ones to know you are safe. For more information: http://emergency.vic.gov.au//worsening-fire-conditions-for

15.01.2022 BOIL WATER ALERT - MOE, NEWBOROUGH, YALLOURN NORTH AND SURROUNDING TOWNS (Saturday 15 February 2020) Hi all, ... We’ve issued a boil water alert for the townships of Hernes Oak, Moe, Moe South, Newborough, Trafalgar East, Westbury, Yallourn, Yallourn Heights and Yallourn North tonight due to a storm-related event at the Moe water treatment plant. It’s recommended that water be brought to a rolling boil before being used for drinking, preparing beverages, washing and preparing food, preparing baby formula, brushing teeth or making ice until further notice. To ensure water is safe for consumption: - Heat water until a continuous and rapid stream of air-bubbles is produced from the bottom of a pan or kettle (kettles with automatic shut-off switches are suitable); - Allow water to cool before use; - Store water in a clean, closed container for later use; and - Caution should be taken to prevent scalding from boiling water. Unboiled water can be used for showering and bathing, flushing toilets, washing dishes and clothes and garden watering. Ensure water is not ingested whilst bathing. It’s likely the alert will remain in place for a number of days. We’re working to restore a normal water supply as soon as possible. In the meantime, an alternative drinking water point has been established at Apex Park in Moe tonight until 10pm, tomorrow from 7am - 10pm and Monday from 6am - 10pm. Please bring your own containers. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and will keep you posted. For more details, please visit www.gippswater.com.au/alerts
