07.01.2022 Transport for NSW launches new safety measure TfNSW has initiated the use of rumble strips on selected roadwork site where the speed limit is 60 kilometres per hour or less. The strips are 20 millimetres high, bright yellow pieces of plastic that vibrate when driven over, and alert drivers when they enter a roadwork zone.... SafeWork NSW Executive Director Operations Tony Williams said the high number of vehicle related incidents on roadwork sites has prompted the need for smarter initiatives. With the current amount of roadwork projects and investment in NSW, the more workers we have out there developing our infrastructure, the more we need to address the risks associated with construction work, Mr. Williams said. Rumble strips are a simple way to remind drivers and motorists that they are in a higher risk area. According to Mr. Williams, other essential safe work systems include separating workers from moving plant and vehicles wherever possible, physical barricades, exclusion zones and segregated work processes. I can’t overstate the importance of having a well thought out traffic management plan that reduces and controls any risks that cannot be eliminated, he said. Slow down and look out so we can all ensure that improving NSW infrastructure is a safe and collaborative endeavour. 03.01.2022 Transport for NSW announces new nine year road maintenance contracts Posted on December 11, 2020 by Lauren Jones The preferred tenderers for Transport for NSW’s Sydney Road Assets Performance (SRAP) Contracts have been announced.... These contractors will deliver key road maintenance and capital projects across Greater Sydney with allocated areas split up into three regions. SRAP contracts will go to Boral, Lendlease and, Tyco (ConnectSydney) in the Harbour Zone, Fulton Hogan in the River Zone and Ventia (LinkingSydney) in the Parkland Zone and Regional ITS. The contracts will last for nine years with a possible extension to 15 years. Services will begin in July 2021 but contract mobilisation will start in January 2021. Executive Director Planning & Programs for Greater Sydney, Tessa Knox-grant said the announcement is a milestone that will help deliver an integrated transport system. Through these new contracts, Transport for NSW is working to achieve a road maintenance solution which provides value for money and optimum service outcomes by involving the private sector and setting clear and measurable performance outcomes, Knox-grant said. We believe we have struck the right balance with industry to deliver the best outcomes for the community, with a stronger focus on safety, performance, sustainability and innovation. Contractors will be responsible for maintenance of roads, bridges, culverts, slopes and traffic signals. Other projects will include road resurfacing, bridge painting, slope rehabilitation and culvert relining. For capital improvement works the contractors will undertake jobs such as left turn lane extensions, traffic signal upgrades and new variable message sign installation. The crews will also be required to help with road-related traffic incident clearance and event management.
