23.01.2022 AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE "Fatigue Can Be Fatal" From Traffic and Highway Patrol Command - NSW Police Force via Blue Mountains Police Area Command Remember, fatigue-...related crashes can happen on any trip no matter how long or short or what time of day. It’s important to think about how tired you are before driving, recognise the early warning signs when driving and know what to do to avoid driving tired. Fatigue is one of the big three killers on NSW roads Fatigue-related crashes are twice as likely to be fatal - drivers who are asleep can't brake From 2013 to 2017, more people in NSW died in fatigue-related crashes than drink driving crashes Being awake for about 17 hours has a similar effect on performance as a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.05 Fatigue can be fatal Driver fatigue is one of the top three contributors to the road toll. Research has shown that fatigue can be as dangerous as other road safety issues, such as drink driving. But unlike drink driving, there are no laws regulating driver fatigue. Public education campaigns are currently the only way to address driver fatigue for car drivers and motorcyclists. Our tips to avoid driving tired help you plan ahead to ensure you're not tired before you hit the road. Stop Revive Survive shows you how to detect the early warning signs of fatigue when you are driving and how to find rest areas in NSW. Driver Reviver sites operate throughout Australia during school/university holidays with places to take a break. Interactive rest area maps allow you to easily plan your rest stops, while a Trip Time Calculator provides a quick guide to journey lengths, but remember to add extra time for breaks along the way. To better understand how fatigue can affect you, the Science of sleep explains how the human body is subject to circadian rhythms and sleep debt. REMEMBER: Sleep is the only cure for tiredness. 23.01.2022 According to the Australian Road Safety Foundation, one quarter of New South Wales drivers (23%) admit to taking road risks since the implementation of COVID-19... lock downs. A frightening statistic, likely driven by the fact that more than two thirds of the state’s drivers (69%) believe the roads are safer under current conditions. There should never be an excuse to take risks on or around our roads. Sadly, many New South Wales drivers still do and the complacency of fewer cars on the road during coronavirus is driving more dangerous behaviour. In the lead up to Fatality Free Friday on 29th May, we urge all road users to take the pledge to #ChooseRoadSafety. Visit arsf.com.au/take-the-pledge-fff/ to demonstrate your commitment to reducing the road toll. #KeepingSafe

16.01.2022 #BEROWRA With significant rainfall over the coming days, do be careful when driving on the roads. If you encounter flooding be careful of fast moving water, and... do not drive through flooded roadways. Should you need assistance with storm damage contact the SES on 132 500. IF ITS FLOODED, FORGET IT.
16.01.2022 Our thoughts are with the friends, family and first responders Bless their little souls This story some may find upsetting. From the NSW Police Force page.... Four children have been killed and a fifth is in a critical condition following a pedestrian crash in Sydney’s north-west. Just before 8pm (Saturday 1 February 2020), emergency services were called to Bettington Road, Oatlands, near Parramatta, following reports multiple people had been struck by a vehicle. Police have been told children were riding bicycles when they were struck by a 4WD. Four children died at the scene and are yet to be formally identified. A fifth child was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition. The driver of the 4WD was subjected to a roadside breath test and returned a positive result. He was arrested and taken to Castle Hill Police Station for a breath analysis. Officers from The Hills Police Area Command have established a crime scene, which will be examined by specialist police from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit. An investigation has commenced into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Inquiries continue. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report crime via NSW Police social media pages.
