25.01.2022 One of my most used sayings when I'm working with people and their dogs.
24.01.2022 What’s the first thing you do when you want to communicate something during training to your dog? It probably is talking. . As humans, we are hard-wired to ta...lk. We chat all day long - to our family, our co-workers, strangers we even talk to ourselves, and of course: our dogs. . Dogs are NOT hard-wired to use language. While they certainly seem to enjoy us chatting along happily and praising them, when we try to rely on language to communicate what we want in training it usually fails. Even worse, not just do our dogs not understand what we want in THAT MOMENT, but if we keep on talking and talking they start to see our language as meaningless background noise. . If you for example are walking and your dog is pulling on leash, telling him no pull while continuing to walk into the direction you are going most likely has no effect. Your dog doesn’t understand pull and he certainly does not understand the negation of it and how that applies to his behavior (unless you have done quite some work on concepts and language already that is! But in that case, you probably also had no problem teaching your dog to leash walk :) ). Maybe if you yell loud enough, your dog will stop in his tracks because he is startled - but not because he actually knows what you want. . By continuing to walk with the pulling dog, you are actually rewarding him for pulling. And your talk becomes background noise. . The same happens in many training situations. Ask yourself Does your dog actually respond to what you are telling him? Or do you have to repeat it multiple times with questionable results? It might be time to talk less and actually train more. . One of my favorite games with my in-person students is to forbid them to say their dog’s name and any repeats of cues for 10 minutes. Everything becomes so much quieter and the dogs actually do not listen any less well (often better as we don’t drown them in our blabla). . If you feel that your dog is not listening, talking less and showing your dog through managing his access to reinforcement what you want might just be the path to fixing it! . Happy (quiet!) Training :) See more

21.01.2022 Finally it's happened !!!
20.01.2022 Well, like many of us...our 2nd lockdown is having varying effects on us. For me it has left me with feelings of sadness....sadness for what has changed...for what we have lost....but I decided today to get back on the horse and celebrate all that we have. For me it's about celebrating all the beautiful dogs who I have had the pleasure to meet.....or to work with and help. I hope you all enjoy them as much as I do
17.01.2022 They are out and about already....please make sure that you keep your pets safe. Dogs on lead on your walks at all times !!
16.01.2022 My Motto to all my clients "If your dog is unsure then get their nose to the floor!" For super sniffy time!
14.01.2022 Great advice here..
13.01.2022 Meet the gorgeous Winnie the British Bulldog. Winnie came to puppy classes in September last year. She was the most gentle puppy in the group and she paired up with the smallest puppy in the group. A real sweetheart is Winnie

11.01.2022 Something that I have always recommended to all owners.
11.01.2022 Another puppy who came to my puppy classes was this little girl....Luna...who is a Maremma x Cane Corso. She's not so little anymore....in fact....she wasn't even little in her puppy group but she sure has grown since then.Luna attended classes last year with her very young and very sweet young human and her Mum. I can't tell you what a joy it is to see these young puppies respond so well to their humans regardless of their size...What a sweet face she's got

04.01.2022 (MODERATOR) This is something I feel deeply passionate about. We need to give our dogs the best life possible. They haven't asked to be here with us in our homes and lives so we owe it to them to construct our lives around providing their needs.
04.01.2022 A few of my puppy class students occasionally get themselves in trouble.....but I'm sure it's not entirely their fault We have Max the muddy Labrador...I bet he needed a good bath after this !! Then we have Bernard and Alfie who got attacked by toilet rolls
02.01.2022 Meet Coco. She is a beautiful Kelpie cross German Short Haired Pointer who came to my puppy classes in 2016. She was the energizer bunny in the group but clearly she is happy traveling in the car, calmly and well behaved.
02.01.2022 Please say hi to Eric. Eric is a little Jack Russell who came to puppy classes last year. A sweet fellow with heaps of character. I know he is right into his trick training and he is perfect for the job.
02.01.2022 Other news to come out of Covid is that Training Wheels has joined Instagram !! I know.....I'm late to the party but at least I'm there. Well kind of....
