10.01.2022 Deltoid Movement: Helps maintain the humorous in position. Prime mover in abduction of the arm (Moves arm away from the body). ... Has 3 main heads (portions of the muscle providing different actions)... -Anterior Head - Flexes, abducts, medially rotates, and horizontally flexes the arm at the shoulder joint (lifts the arm to the front and across the chest) -Lateral Head Abducts the arm and assists anterior and posterior movements -Posterior Head - Extends, abducts, laterally rotates, and horizontally extends the arm at the shoulder joint (lifts the arm backward and out from the body) Common Issues: Weakness of the deltoids may increase the chance of shoulder dislocation and contribute to incorrect movement patterns of the shoulder joint. People using repetitive and/or explosive shoulder movements such as throwing and swimming are more likely to experience overuse injuries. The takeaway: Dont push the weights dramatically, keep movement patterns stable and give the muscle time to recover. Generally, the further a weight is from the midline of your body, the harder it is to lift. As always, technique comes before weight.

08.01.2022 Pectoralis major Movement: Adducts (arm moving towards the body) and medially rotates (towards the centre of the body) the humorous and can be active in Forced inspiration (taking a deep breath of air)... Common issues: Shortness of the pectoralis major holds the humorous in medial rotation and adduction (forwards and across chest) which can result in abduction of the scapula from the spine (shoulder blades sticking out from the back). Can cause a decreased range of motion over the head as well as postural issues leading to back pain. Stretch the pecs and strengthen the back to alleviate this issue.
