24.01.2022 Today marks one year since the Trak CineCentre opened under our management. By now, you'd all be aware that cinemas are amongst a number of venues and facilities that are closed across the country, with no clear idea of what comes next, or when we'll be allowed to reopen. It's certainly not what we envisioned for our first anniversary, and what is shaping up to be a large proportion of the Trak's 44th year, but we are doing our very best with the situation we currently find o...urselves in. The outlook is still very uncertain, and we're taking each day and the challenges that are presented as they come. At this stage, we anticipate, and are working towards a return to normal operation. There is something very not right about a closed, dark theatre. They're meant to be busy places, full of people, full of entertainment and full of emotion. Places for people to turn to, especially at times like this. We do regret that we're unable to be that place for you all right now, but we live in hope that we may be again one day soon. The reality of the closure, while not unexpected, hit hard when it did occur. It's taken some time for us to step back and absorb it, which is why you've not heard from us since it happened. We're looking at this time as an opportunity, and we are making the most of it. We've quite a few things that we never seem to get the time or energy for, things that would create too much disturbance during normal operation, and things that we'd like to improve or expand upon. We'll see how things go - we might give you a sneak peek, or we might make you all wait until we can welcome you back in person. We're deeply thankful for the support you've shown us during our first year. When it comes down to it, for us, we're here to show movies, and to present you with the best experience we're capable of. Your willingness to find your entertainment with us means we get to keep doing that, and that makes us happy. Lastly, please remember that while while this is challenging for everyone, arts and culture is a very important part of our society that already runs on a shoestring, and on the blood, sweat and tears of the people who care deeply about it. The past month has seen theatres and cinemas, pubs and clubs, galleries, halls, stadiums and entertainment centres, and many other places come to an abrupt halt. With that comes the cancellation of tens of thousands of events and gigs, and with that, hundreds of thousands of venue staff, technical staff, bar staff, front of house staff, musicians and entertainers, comedians, filmmakers, and so many others suddenly without work, not to mention all the associated industries that exist to keep all this running smoothly. When this is all over, those of us who are still standing are going to need your support more than ever before.

21.01.2022 It has arrived! Join us this coming Sunday morning for our Australia Day presentation of John Heyers award-winning documentary, The Back of Beyond, which follows Tom Kruse, the mailman from Marree who spent many years of his life servicing the towns along the Birdsville Track. This film will be presented using an original 16mm print, which also marks the first return of film to the Traks screens since digital cinema became the standard in 2013.... 10:30am. All tickets $10. Film presentations like this are a very rare and special thing. Your support of this presentation will assist us in bringing more such events to the Trak.

21.01.2022 Worth a look at.. but perhaps wait until youve seen it, if youre not keen on spoilers. Sam Mendes discusses why he chose to shoot 1917 in the manner he did, and how it contributes to the narrative and the overall feeling of the film, along with a brief, behind-the-scenes peek at how some shots were achieved, and the planning and effort that went into getting everything just right. For his work in achieving Mendes vision for 1917, Roger Deakins won the 2020 Academy Award fo...r Best Cinematography. 1917 commences today at the Trak CineCentre.

20.01.2022 Due to complications arising as a result of recent repairs and renovations, we will be unable to open on Friday July 3 as planned. We've made every effort to resolve these in time to open this morning, but with just over five hours remaining until our first sessions are due to commence, we determined that it will not be possible to do so. We are working towards operating our scheduled programme on Saturday, and will provide updates as the day progresses.... We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and look forward to seeing you as soon as possible.

18.01.2022 It sounds like its shaping up to be everything wed hoped it would be. Weve two more preview screenings to go - 7:30pm this evening and 2:30pm tomorrow afternoon. Come along and see what all the excitement is about!

18.01.2022 On this day in 1997, Australia met the Kerrigan family for the first time.

17.01.2022 Following on from the media coverage of the Trak's plight over the past two weeks or so, we've been humbled with a substantial amount of attention, and a rather noticeable uptick in our attendances. For what you've all done for the Trak so far, we thank you. We're approaching this with cautious optimism, and we hope that these attendances continue to maintain or improve. The more consistency and reliability we have, the better our chances will be. We've been presented with nu...merous ideas and suggestions since all this has come to light. Some of these we've worked through already and are in the process of implementation. Others, we are still working through and determining their viability and potential. There's a few things we'd like to do ourselves as well. All of these will be publicised as they come. On that note, we do firmly believe that this is your local, independently operated and community minded cinema. As such, we have a lot of discretion about how we choose to operate. We invite any input - ideas and suggestions - no matter how perceivably out there or crazy they may seem to be. Let's try out some new things together. We're also mindful that recent publicity has also reached a different demographic of audience than what we're predominantly used to. We understand that with this comes different wants, needs and interests. We'll respond to these evolving circumstances as best and as quickly as we can. We've also been approached with a number of offers of assistance. We really appreciate these, and we're working through the intricacies of each of them as quickly as we can. Once again, these will be publicised as they come. Whether the Trak comes through this or not, all of these kind gestures will be repaid and returned as much as we possibly can, as soon as we're able, in one way or another. This is a field we care deeply about, and we will pay forward the generosity that you've given us.

17.01.2022 While Fred Rogers experiences legendary status in America, he and the influence hes had over generations of Americans is somewhat lesser known elsewhere in the world. This video, just over twelve minutes in length, covers what they perceive to be the top ten moments of Mister Rogers, and his Neighborhood, and will give you some idea of how that legendary status came to be. If youve not yet been introduced, please take the time. The new feature film, A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood, based upon the true story of the friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod, commences Thursday January 23, with an advanced screening on Wednesday January 15 at 10:30am, with morning tea included.

16.01.2022 I feel the need to draw the attention of the followers and supporters of the Trak CineCentre to what is currently occurring on the other side of Adelaide at Lockleys. The City of West Torrens intend to commence demolition of the Lockleys Memorial Centre on Henley Beach Road this coming Monday. The Lockleys Memorial Centre was most recently operated by the Windsor Cinema circuit until late 2012. At that point in time, the Windsor Cinema circuit had to choose between their two ...Continue reading

16.01.2022 NEW THIS WEEKEND - A LION RETURNS After spending eighteen months in Syria, Jamal is back in Sydney and wants to see his terminally ill mother. However, he has to deal with his strongly minded older brother - Omar, his wife - Heidi, but most importantly, his unforgiving father.

16.01.2022 Some interesting reading regarding the muffled dialogue in Tenet. Weve had similar feedback from a number of our patrons.

15.01.2022 In accordance with today's announcements by the South Australian Government, the Trak CineCentre will resume standard operations on Sunday November 22. The Box Office and Candy Bar will open to the public at 10:15am, with the first scheduled sessions for the day commencing at 10:30am. The schedule for the remainder of this week is now available on our website.... We hope to see you all again soon!

15.01.2022 As of Friday March 20, the Trak CineCentre is open as normal, with some restrictions to general operations. Once again, the Trak's management continues to monitor official advisories, and will respond appropriately and promptly on the relevant advice and occasions. In addition to the restriction that the Australian Government has placed upon non-essential gatherings exceeding 100 attendees, the following guidelines will also apply from Saturday March 21 at 10:30am:... Theatre capacities have been reduced as follows - Cinema 1 to 46 Patrons; Cinema 2 to 33 Patrons; and Cinema 3 to 11 Patrons. Please ensure you arrive early if you wish to guarantee yourselves a seat. The above reductions satisfy the guidelines of 4 square metres of floor space per occupant. Once again, please ensure 1.5 metres of distance between each occupant, unless close friends or family. While we have not restricted access to any seats in particular, please use your common sense - staff are authorised to relocate you if they deem it necessary. Please ensure that you do not leave any items behind, and take all rubbish with you at the end of your session. This is also an opportune time to remind patrons that no hot food, smelly or messy food and drink, or food considered to be meal-like in nature is permitted in our theatres. Please advise staff immediately of any spillages. Compliance with these guidelines ensures that the Trak CineCentre can continue to operate during these circumstances. The Trak CineCentre management reserves the right to deny admittance or to remove any patron as a result of failing to follow these guidelines or associated staff directives. We trust you appreciate the need for this level of emphasis. Lastly, thank you to all of those whove heeded our call and continue to support us with your patronage.

15.01.2022 $8.50 Tickets to H is for Happiness from Thursday February 20! Now, read on, and let us tell you why.. H is for Happiness is a new, Australian film, based upon the novel My Life as an Alphabet, which received positive feedback during the Melbourne International Film Festival late last year, and although it might present outwardly as angled towards younger people, it offers something for all ages.... Behind the entertainment that you experience, a lot of attention is placed upon attendance and ticket sales. We are passionate about supporting Australian cinema, and ensuring that the offering of Australian film continues to grow and explore new and interesting frontiers. For this reason, tickets to all sessions of H is for Happiness from Thursday will be $8.50. Give this film a chance.

15.01.2022 Tomorrow morning, we commence preview screenings of Christopher Nolans long-awaited Tenet - the first major cinematic release since coronavirus ravaged the world, and the heralding of the comeback of cinema around the world. Its different to our usual offerings. But theres a point why were choosing to present it. Christopher Nolan is one of a very few directors who are very passionate about cinema - in particular, exhibition and film as an exhibition and production format.... Nolan ensured that Tenet maintained its commitment to its cinematic release, over substantial pressure surrounding release delays, as well as the appeal of digital home release. Not only that, his films are regularly presented using 35mm, 70mm and 70mm IMAX at selected locations across the world. Nolans dedication to these formats help to perpetuate this increasingly rare medium and associated equipment, as well as the dying art form of film projection, which has faded substantially since the introduction of digital protection as the industry standard in 2013. This is something I am extremely passionate about, and really is the primary factor that led to my fascination about cinema exhibition in the first place, and ultimately to my presence here at the Trak CineCentre. I know theres a colossal number of opportunities to see Tenet across Adelaide, but hopefully well see some of you here for our previews this weekend, and following its wide release this Thursday.

15.01.2022 With thanks to Madman Films, the Trak CineCentre will be presenting a special advanced screening of The Biggest Little Farm this Saturday at 2:30pm. Please share this far and wide, as wed like to be able to give as much as we possibly can. #SouthAustralianBushfires #SouthAustralianBushfireRelief

15.01.2022 Were very excited to announce that we will be back on Thursday July 2! Aside from what is required of us by governing bodies to open and to operate, we anticipate a return to normal operation. Well provide specifics of what this entails and how it may affect your visit closer to opening. As far as our programme is concerned, we are planning a blend of films from earlier in the year as well as some new releases. Were hoping to have a full programme available within the week.... Stay tuned!

13.01.2022 NEW THIS WEEKEND - RADIOACTIVE After the death of her beloved husband, Marie Curie’s commitment to science remains strong as she tries to explain previously unknown radioactive elements. But it soon becomes terrifyingly evident that her work could lead to applications in medicine that could save thousands of lives - or applications in warfare that could destroy them by the billions.

13.01.2022 Discussing movie spoilers in the foyer of a cinema..

13.01.2022 Undoubtedly, youd all be aware that South Australian cinemas were granted permission to reopen their doors on the first of this month. That being said, the more astute amongst you wouldve noticed that only a couple have taken up this opportunity, while the majority, including the Trak, remain closed. Why is this, you might be asking? For us, theres a few reasons. When cinemas were required to close, film distributors suspended impending release dates. While South Australia...n cinemas are permitted to operate, uncertainty around restrictions in the remainder of the country, and around the world remains. As such, the availability of new films remains uncertain. As June continues, more release dates are being set, which gives us a clearer idea of what is available to us when determining the most opportune time to reopen. Additionally, when we were required to close, we chose to use that time to conduct a number of repairs and renovations that would have required interruptions to operations to undertake. Work commenced the day following the closure, and as the viability of a June 1 reopening was still in question, we opted to complete as much of these as possible in order to improve your experience during your patronage, and to reduce the need for future interruptions, rather than open with limited films to present. We aim to complete these works within the next fortnight. In terms of reopening, at this stage, we are working towards a date late this month, or very early next month. As soon as particulars surrounding this are confirmed, well be sure to let you all know. We would hope it goes without saying that, although weve done our best to make the most of an unprecedented and extremely challenging time, it is still exactly that - unprecedented and extremely challenging. The effects of this are going to be felt across this industry for years to come. For us in particular, we were just beginning to find our feet after pulling the Trak out of its previous closure, and this has set us back substantially. If you value the future of the Trak as much as we do, please show your support as much as you are able in these coming months. As we said at the onset of all this - we dont give a damn about turning a profit, we just want to make enough to pay our way and to continue to bring you new and interesting films and experiences for as long as possible. While we will attempt to keep your experience as normal as possible, there are a number of rules and restrictions that we are required to follow and undertake. We trust that youll be understanding and accommodating in regards to these. Thank you to those of you whove been in touch, either to make enquiries, or just to check in on us and say hello. Were very glad weve not been forgotten about, and that theres people keen to get out and experience movies as they were intended to be experienced. We look forward to seeing you all very soon!

13.01.2022 Unfortunately, a couple of new films were overshadowed by the chaos of last week. Winning over audiences at film festivals the world over, Ellie & Abbie (& Abbie’s Dead Aunt) is a heartfelt and hilarious queer teen rom-com from Sydney-based writer-director Monica Zanetti. School captain Ellie (Sophie Hawkshaw) has a serious crush on her classmate Abbie (Zoe Terakes), and is angsting over inviting her to the Year 12 formal. When Ellie accidentally spills the beans to her mum (Marta Dusseldorp) and outs herself in the process, things start to get complicated, and a little bit spooky. Enter her deceased aunt Tara (Julia Billington), a lesbian activist from the ‘80s who returns from the dead to act as a kind of fairy godmother to Ellie, guiding her through the trials and tribulations of her first love.

13.01.2022 Please be aware that our EFTPOS provider is currently experiencing technical issues, and as such, EFTPOS is currently unavailable at the Trak CineCentre. For some strange reason, Suncorp Bank is experiencing a large volume of calls right now, so we havent been able to find out anything else. Anyhow, apologies. Well let you know as soon as its resolved.

13.01.2022 It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103. To the world he was a legend, an actor from the... golden age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in set a standard for all of us to aspire to. But to me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad, to Catherine, a wonderful father-in-law, to his grandchildren and great grandchild their loving grandfather, and to his wife Anne, a wonderful husband. Kirk's life was well lived, and he leaves a legacy in film that will endure for generations to come, and a history as a renowned philanthropist who worked to aid the public and bring peace to the planet. Let me end with the words I told him on his last birthday and which will always remain true. Dad- I love you so much and I am so proud to be your son. #KirkDouglas

09.01.2022 Unfortunately, a couple of new films were overshadowed by the chaos of last week. Brazen Hussies shows us how a daring and diverse group of women joined forces to defy the status quo, demand equality and create profound social change - contributing to one of the greatest social movements of the 20th Century. The film interweaves freshly uncovered archival footage, personal photographs, memorabilia and lively accounts from the bold women who reignited the feminist movement in Australia, at times at great personal cost.

04.01.2022 As of Wednesday March 18, the Trak CineCentre is open as normal, with general operations remaining unaffected. The Trak's management continues to monitor official advisories, and will respond appropriately and promptly on the relevant advice and occasions. We are aware of the restriction that the Australian Government has placed upon non-essential gatherings exceeding 100 attendees as of this morning. Given the capacity of our theatres and venue, and ongoing attendance statis...tics, it is unlikely that this restriction will have any effect upon us. In addition to official advisories, the Trak CineCentre is also undertaking the following: Our in-house prepared foods and drinks - choc tops, popcorn and coffee - currently remain available, but this may be reviewed in future. While we are very supportive of reusable containers, we will not be accepting reusable cups until further notice. All of our disposable materials are compostable. Our high standard of cleaning will occur on a more frequent basis, with additional attention being paid to all high-contact areas. We are a general admission venue, but we do ask that attendees choose seats that allow adequate space between themselves and other attendees. The guideline is 1.5 metres. Particularly keeping in mind a large proportion of the demographic of our theatre, we ask that you reconsider your attendance at the theatre if you're currently unwell or experiencing flu-like symptoms. Lastly and on a more personal note, we strongly urge you to support us during this time and while you are still able to. There has been a substantial drop in cinema attendance both in Australia and around the world, particularly during the past seven days, which is a very challenging scenario for any independently operated cinema. The Trak CineCentre was rescued from closure only twelve months ago, and while we have managed to improve the Trak's situation substantially during the last year, we're still on very shaky ground, and we have a long way to go before it is in a safe and comfortable position. It is only due to the uncompensated and substantial efforts of the Trak's two staff, and the very valued assistance of a handful of close friends and family, that the theatre has managed to remain in the position of being able to cover the costs of it's continued existence. What we care about here is the safety of our patrons, the safety of our two operators, and being able to stay here and continue to entertain Adelaide's moviegoers for as long as we can, and to keep an Adelaide institution alive that has been here since 1975.

04.01.2022 A little insight into how some famous film scenes were created, and into how a small number of them have survived to still be with us decades later. If theres one thing were passionate about here, its the preservation and accessibility of cinematic history.

03.01.2022 Following on from last Fridays delays, were pleased and relieved to be able to say that we are now open and operating as normal. Even though we worked long and hard, including a few overnights, the situation took substantially longer than anticipated to resolve. We hope that people understand that, even though we are assisted here and there, theres essentially only two pairs of hands that keep the Trak ticking over. Even so, we know that the late notice of the delay has caught some people by surprise, and has resulted in conflicting information being publicised, and for that we apologise. So yes - hopefully smooth sailing from this point onwards. We look forward to being able to see you all soon.

03.01.2022 It is with a great deal of sadness and emptiness to inform you all that the Trak CineCentre will be closing at the conclusion of 2020, the culmination of forty five years of this South Australian icon and institution. A final date has not yet been selected. I will make it known once I have made a decision on when that will be. This is a decision that is final, and it is a decision that is out of my hands.... I would like the final month of the Trak’s life to be as active, enjoyable and adventurous as possible, and I would like to be able to share this final month with as many of you as possible. I have a number of ideas I would like to attempt while I still have the opportunity, but if any of you have any suggestions or anything you might like to try out, please do let me know and I’ll see what’s possible. Please continue to follow along here, and I will provide further information as it becomes available. Thank you so much to everybody who has made my two years or so such a special and enjoyable time. The hundred plus hour weeks, balancing two jobs.. the time, energy and effort that I have poured into this place.. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Thank you so much to my family and every one of my very good friends who have supported and helped me every step of the way with this. You all know who you are, and you’re all massively appreciated.

02.01.2022 Today marks one year since the Trak CineCentre opened under our management. By now, youd all be aware that cinemas are amongst a number of venues and facilities that are closed across the country, with no clear idea of what comes next, or when well be allowed to reopen. Its certainly not what we envisioned for our first anniversary, and what is shaping up to be a large proportion of the Traks 44th year, but we are doing our very best with the situation we currently find o...urselves in. The outlook is still very uncertain, and were taking each day and the challenges that are presented as they come. At this stage, we anticipate, and are working towards a return to normal operation. There is something very not right about a closed, dark theatre. Theyre meant to be busy places, full of people, full of entertainment and full of emotion. Places for people to turn to, especially at times like this. We do regret that were unable to be that place for you all right now, but we live in hope that we may be again one day soon. The reality of the closure, while not unexpected, hit hard when it did occur. Its taken some time for us to step back and absorb it, which is why youve not heard from us since it happened. Were looking at this time as an opportunity, and we are making the most of it. Weve quite a few things that we never seem to get the time or energy for, things that would create too much disturbance during normal operation, and things that wed like to improve or expand upon. Well see how things go - we might give you a sneak peek, or we might make you all wait until we can welcome you back in person. Were deeply thankful for the support youve shown us during our first year. When it comes down to it, for us, were here to show movies, and to present you with the best experience were capable of.
