24.01.2022 CEO Chris Thomas was privileged to be invited to attend the launch of Saffron Day in Sydney, inspired by young Deyaan who became a donor saving four lives. It was great to see members from the Indian, Nepalese, Sri Lankan and Bangladesh communities at the launch. Everyone in Australia should have equal access to transplantation. ... That's why we need all communities to embrace the message and Saffron Day is a wonderful concept now growing in Australia. #doitfodeyaan #saffronday #donatelife DonateLife

19.01.2022 DonateLife Week - Julianne’s Story | Its DonateLife Week and what better way to promote the benefits of organ and tissue donation than to tell the inspirational stories of those who have received the gift of life. How are transplant recipients coping with ‘life during lockdown? This week we feature just a few of the new passions discovered while at home waiting out the COVID-19 Pandemic. If you have an inspirational story, new hobby or passion, share it here. And don’t forget... every Australian can play their part in helping to save the 1,700 people waiting for a life-saving transplant by registering their decision at donatelife.gov.au Since my second transplant, I no longer have the stamina, or inclination, to work in my previous fast paced, high stress government job. Fatigue, nausea and other side effects from my meds play a daily role on my life now. So, I took the opportunity to learn a rare, quirky skill. First it was an online DIY starter course. Then when restrictions eased I did the Masters course. I am heading to Perth next month to gild parts of a new mansion being built and I couldn't be happier. I can't believe I'm being paid to "play" with gold Gilding is the ancient technique of laying gold and other precious metals onto surfaces for decorative purposes. This new career lets me work when I have the energy and be creative. To help people just like Julianne visit donatelife.gov.au #DonateLifeWeek2020 #DonateLife DonateLife

18.01.2022 DonateLife Thank You Day is a national day to recognise all Australians who make organ and tissue donation possible. DonateLife Thank You Day 2020 will be held on 22 November 2020. DonateLife Thank You Day is an important opportunity for the Australian community to collectively say Thank You to all the individuals and their families who make donation possible. Their stories inspire other Australians to register as organ and tissue donors and discuss with family and friends.... Each year thousands of Australian lives are saved and transformed through the generosity of deceased and living organ and tissue donors and their families. Families play a crucial role in the donation process because they are asked to confirm their loved one wanted to be a donor, and provide vital health information before donation proceeds. Families also help the broader community understand donation by generously sharing their stories with the public. In doing so, these families help to educate Australians about donation and the comfort that it can bring families. #ThankYouDay2020 #donatelife

13.01.2022 #Repost Transplant Australia Football Club | Forty six year old Robert Mihalic was told at 21 that he’d need an organ transplant as a result of liver disease. Like many patients with severe liver disease, a need for a transplant is often not an urgent one. Many wait 15 years before getting sick enough to need a transplant. After collapsing at work, Rob was rushed to hospital with end-stage liver failure. He was told he needed an organ transplant by the weekend or he would no...t survive. Thankfully, miraculously, a suitable liver donor was found within three days. Rob spent six weeks recovering in hospital. Because of the gift of life granted to him, Rob has continued living a strong, healthy life. Nine years after his transplant, Rob has continued to play football, has a beautiful family and a new perspective on life. His message this week: Please have the discussion with your family around organ donation. Ask yourself, if you would be prepared to receive a donated organ for yourself or a loved one in order to stay alive, then you MUST register to be an organ donor. Best wishes Rob to you and your family. #DonatelifeLifeWeek2020 #Donatelife DonateLife Football Federation Australia See more
12.01.2022 DonateLife Week | What better way to promote the benefits of organ and tissue donation than to tell the inspirational stories of those who have received the gift of life. Meet Alise - Life had an unexpected beginning for me. I was born with a condition called infantile polycystic kidney disease which meant my kidney was failing. 11.01.2022 Repost Transplant Australia Football Club | Ante Kelic just recently celebrated his 40th birthday. A milestone that, only several years ago, he wasn’t certain he’d ever see. For 15 years he suffered from a degenerative liver disease. In combination with this terrible illness, Ante also suffers from Crohn's disease, an inflammatory bowel disease. The combination of the two is terrible, required five major surgeries in as many years, the removal of 80% of Ante's large intestine... and finally a liver transplant at the age of 35. Ante was on the transplant waiting list in Victoria for seven months. On February 2, 2015 he received a call early in the morning from the Liver Transplant Coordinator - a possible donor had been found. A long day followed, not knowing if the liver was a good match. Finally, after a marathon 11-hour overnight surgery, the news arrived that the transplant was a huge success. A few months later Ante was alive and healthy, welcoming his first child, a daughter into the world. Life ever since his transplant has been dedicated to being fully present, making memories with family, staying active and travelling extensively. Being sick for the majority of his adult years, Ante never thought he would need a transplant. He now encourages others far and wide through his media commitments, business and personal social media pages to register to donate their organs.
