25.01.2022 Have you been thinking about joining our Creating Connections Mentoring Program? We have some very keen mentors awaiting to be matched with a mentee. A Mentor is a person whom you can confidently confide in for career advice, support and direction. A Mentee is often a person that is wanting to take their career to the next level and not sure what step to take first. The relationship is based around open and honest communication. The Mentor will typically assess the Mentee’s c...urrent situation, gain an understanding of the Mentee’s goals, roadblocks, and timelines. Discussion and self-reflection can often lead to the Mentee having personal insights and even creating their own plan with the support of the Mentor as a guide. The Mentor can enrich the process by sharing their experiences and past learning to support the Mentee in detailing their plan and carving out a clear path forward in their career. Transport Women Australia Limited specifically matches Mentor and Mentee participants for an ultimately successful outcome. If you are wanting to take your career to the next level and not sure of the next step, please contact [email protected] for the opportunity to partake in this program. #twal #transportwomenaustralia #creatingconnections #mentoring #mentoringprogram #mentor #mentee #transportindustry #roadfreight #transportation

21.01.2022 Our favourite time of the week - MEMBER MONDAY! Today, we are introducing our followers to Claudia Foini. Claudia started off in the Transport Industry as a 19-year-old in 2003.... Claudia started from the ground up; From PM Manifesting in the early days and then to Running the NSW Country network for two of the largest Interstate carriers in the Industry. Having the responsibility of ensuring ALL freight travelling to the NSW Country was delivered on time and ensuring a good relationship kept with the agents delivering the freight. Her days would consist of Data entry, Quoting, Customer Service, Manifesting, Supervising the loading of freight and seeing the goods delivered; she was basically running her own little Transport company within the bigger one. Claudia took a change in 2010 and worked in the Commercial Waste Management section of the industry. Within the Operations department the responsibility would be to manage anywhere from 40-80 drivers on the road at any given time. Ensuring safety and compliance always with a very strong focus on Fatigue Management. In 2014, Claudia then took an opportunity back into General freight and spent some time in Business Development Management. Being exposed to the sales side of the industry was further knowledge to this Industry she had grown to love. With the extensive experience in Operations & Sales, she was ready to take the next step in her career. Claudia has now spent the last two and half years in a Senior Management role, with her current position as a State Manager at Page Tasmanian Freight. Claudia says, I absolutely love my job and the fact that every day is different from the next just makes it even more challenging and of course rewarding. Claudia is continuing to develop her skills and experience in the industry, currently completing a Graduate Certificate in Logistics and Supply chain Management. #twal #transportwomenaustralia #drivingthedifference #membermonday #memberenagement #Roadfreight #transportwomen #womeninleadership #womeninleadership #womensupportingwomen #trucking #truckingindustry

21.01.2022 Welcome to 2021 and to our first Monday Member for the year. Today we introduce you to Janice O'Connor. Allied Seafreight was founded over 26 years ago by my father, Bill O’Connor, who had spent his life in transport in both Ireland & Australia. My parents asked me to join the company at its inception and it has been an amazing journey both professionally and personally. ... I consider myself extremely fortunate to have learned the business with my father as my mentor. Learning all facets of transport and warehousing. We have always prided ourselves on being a service focused company and forming true partnerships with our clients. Being a family business was an important part of our core values and our brand. I love that our growth and success is as a direct result of providing excellent service to our clients. I continued my studies and completed my Post Grad in Business which gave me the additional management skills needed to take the business to the next growth phase. We commenced our succession planning of the business 10 years ago and my father fully retired from the business earlier this year. I am very proud to take on the family business but also to be one of a handful of female Managing Directors in Logistics. Being a female in transport has been challenging but rewarding, I have seen so many changes in the industry but importantly the growth of roles for women from management to drivers. We are currently in the process of moving into a new facility that is 16,500 sqm of warehousing and brand-new container rated hardstand. This will enable us to consolidate two sites and have the ability to grow our business. We are very excited about 2021 and the move into our new facility. I am so fortunate to have such an excellent group of talented, loyal and hardworking team that I get to work with every day.

14.01.2022 Introducing you to Leah Cozen's for our Member Monday today. Leah was born in 1977 and her parents started Thompson Removals of which she is now a Director. Her father started driving when he was 18 and the passion for trucking runs in her veins. Growing up, Leah joined her dad on trips whenever she could and waited impatiently for the time, she could get her truck license. Shortly after her 20th birthday Leah passed her heavy combination license test. John and she boug...ht an Iveco truck and dog trailer and worked together carting new and old furniture. They drove two-up on weekly runs from Melbourne to Perth and Sydney and the occasional trip to Queensland and the Northern Territory. The eight years they drove together were exceptionally hard work; sacrificing a lot and missed out on some things, but Leah says she would not change a thing as very few people get the chance to make their passion a career. Leah works out of the head office in Warrnambool where she fields enquiries, arrange quotes, and help manage logistics, as well as implementing ideas to help the business thrive and grow. Leah says, while working in the office is great, nothing beats being out on the road. For the last 12 months Leah has been doing weekly runs from Warrnambool to Melbourne in her own UD truck with a container trailer line hauling the containers of freight. Every year Leah looks forward to entering their trucks in the Koroit Truck Show and she is always looking for ways to promote the industry and the work she does. When she got her truck licence back in 1998, it was rare to see women working in the trucking industry, but she is so glad she did not let that deter her. Achieving success in a traditionally male-dominated industry is exceptionally satisfying and proof that women can do anything they set their mind to. A career in truck driving provides a lot of varied and interesting opportunities, as well as a great lifestyle. Leah says she would love to see more women join the ranks. So, if you love trucks, meeting new people and getting out on the road, she would say don’t hesitate to give it a go and she is always happy to talk to any women wanting to know anything. #twal #membermonday #memberintroduction #transportwomenaustralia #drivingthedifference #roadfreight #transportindustry

09.01.2022 Meet Bec Coleman our Monday Member for this week. I entered the heavy vehicle transport industry as an Office Manager with the Australian Livestock and Rural Transporters Association (ALRTA) in 2014, following a 7-year stint managing a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) based in Far North Qld. My early career was spent working with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), the authority that regulates Australia’s aviation industry just as the National Heavy Vehicle Reg...ulator (NHVR) regulates Australia’s heavy vehicle industry, across various administrative, compliance, technical and policy roles. In 2015 I moved into the role of Chief Operating Officer with the Livestock Bulk and Rural Carriers Association (LBRCA) helping members operating in rural and regional NSW resolve challenges in their transport businesses across many topics including road access, enforcement, animal welfare, licencing, and compliance just to name a few. I instantly loved my work, and the passion to support our hardworking industry grew. And continues to grow to this day. LBRCA boasts over 200 members so singlehandedly managing the needs of members and delivering the Associations business including delivery of Chain of Responsibility training to those located in rural areas of NSW is sometimes challenging, albeit always rewarding. I also fill in my time participating in several committees including the OzHealth ‘Gettin into Gear’ Mental Health Program Steering Committee, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) Farmgate Access 2.0 Steering Committee and the NSW Livestock Loading Scheme Driver Learning and Assessment Steering Committee. I’ve had many memorable moments in the heavy vehicle transport industry, from successfully obtaining two government funding grants to help improve road safety in our industry, to working with such a dynamic and welcoming group of people at the LBRCA and TWAL. One special moment that stands out was being provided an opportunity by TWAL Chair Jacquelene Brotherton to present at the TWAL Conference held in Melbourne in May 2019 and the Australian Equality Gender Council (AGEC) Forum that same year. I am blessed to be a hands-on mum to Kayla 18, Kaitlin 10, and Chevy 7 and in my spare time (rare) my partner Wade and I get the kids outdoors as much as possible, with our favourite activity being boating and freshwater fishing. I would recommend the heavy vehicle industry to anyone who would like to put in and get out a lot from their work, with both women and men equally suited for this industry.
