24.01.2022 Is a Management Liability Policy for you? Employment Practices Liability is one section of a typical Management Liability policy. The following claims example provided by AIG Insurance LImited shows how a policy might respond.. EPL- Settled Claim Retail company & employee... An employee had been working in one of the insured’s many retails stores. The employee later resigned and made allegations in relation to sexual harassment against her manager. Manager was subsequently dismissed. The employee chose to issue proceedings in the Federal Court. Matter was subject of media attention and the Insured submitted a claim. AIG reviewed the matter and confirmed indemnity and appointed solicitors to defend the claim on the insured’s behalf. It became apparent that the insured had an exposure on the claim. We invited the parties to a mediation in an attempt to resolve the matter and later the matter was settled at mediation for $150K. If you're worried about the financial impact of employee related disputes on your business, perhaps it's time to discuss the option of a Management Liability policy for your business.

16.01.2022 Is Cyber Liability Insurance for your business? Cyber crime is on the rise, no question about it. Unfortunately businesses don;t appreciate the impact until it is too late. Here are a few claims examples as to how a Cyber Liability may respond in the event of a claim.... 1. Real Estate Agent; 6 staff, $8m turnover The insured had a ransomware virus enter their computer system where the hacker demanded a payment of USD$500 to be made. The insured's business was unable to function normally for 7 days. The policy responded and paid $7,440 to cover the cost of restoring information, payment, as well as lost man hours. 2. Accountant, 20 staff, $3.5m turnover A former IT contractor allegedly logged in remotely without authorisation and deleted filed on the insured's server. However, when the police interviewed the individual, he advised that all of his computers were stolen before the insured's computers were hacked. The policy responded by paying 8,000 in costs incurred while restoring and repairing the server damage caused by this incident. 3. On-line Clothing Retailer, 5 staff, $2m turnover On two occasions, January & March, the Insured's computer systems was affected by a crypto locker virus which prevented the Insured from being able to operate as usual. The policy responded by paying $14,000 in IT expenses to restore the Insured's computer system back to the position they were in before the virus. The above are just a few examples of very simple claims that affect businesses small and large. If you would like to know more about Cyber Insurance and the options available, please contact your Broker today. (Information sourced from DUAL Australia)

08.01.2022 Here is the Trans-West team getting behind WOW day. Wear Orange Wednesday is an initiative by the SES who are encouraging everyone to wear something orange to work to show your support for the SES volunteers. Who are the SES? "The State Emergency Service (SES) is the name used by a number volunteer organisations in Australia that provide emergency help during and after declared (natural or otherwise) disasters, typically flood, storm or tsunami. The SES also assist in other ...emergencies, such as vertical and road crash rescue and medical emergency. In other scenarios the SES may provide a support role to other agencies, particularly police and fire. The SES is operational 24 hours a day." Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_Emergency_Service They aren't asking for much and I think in any way we can thank and show support for the wonderful work our SES volunteers do, we should get behind. I hope all of you can show some support with the hashtag on all social medias #THANKYOUSES They have made a brochure with some other things you may like to do to help support, here.

08.01.2022 The NSW Government has announced that it will be legislating to remove ESL from insurance pricing and replace it with a property based ESL regime to be administered through council rates. This means that the responsibility of funding fire and emergency services will no longer fall only on those with property insurance, but on all property owners. The NSW Government is expected to table this legislation in February, with changes to take effect from 1 July. This means any insurance policy with a start or renewal date on or after 1 July 2017, will not include an ESL. For more information, CGU has an "ESL Explained" page on the CGU website, or visit the NSW ESL Insurance Monitor website. Other insurers will have similar notices on their websites too.
