25.01.2022 Sunday Training This morning, the crew and the new recruits went through a scenario of an external structural fire fight. The crew assessed the scene and determined their best attack method. We also had 2 new potential recruits come up and watch, to get a taste of what it would be like to join Traralgon East fire brigade. ... Thanks for a great training session crew!

24.01.2022 As First Responders, it’s our job to support our communities day in, day out. Through fires, floods, road crashes and more our emergency service workers are t...here, ready to help. 24.01.2022 Today marks the 37th anniversary of the Ash Wednesday Fires. On this day, more than 180 fires broke out over South Australia and Victoria, with at least 100 of them in Victoria alone... These fires went on to burn 400,000 hectares, destroy more than 3,000 properties, and tragically take the lives of 75 people. Today is a day we remember a devastating time in Australian history... and honour the lives of the loved ones we lost ...

21.01.2022 Given the current health warnings with COVID-19 virus, we have decided to take on CFAs recommendations of ceasing training and face to face meetings for the time being. However, it will be business as usual when it comes to turning out to emergency. Volunteer brigades will continue to service the community, as we always have.

21.01.2022 Our hearts are heavy with the tragic news of the death of four police officers this evening. Our deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the officers who were on the front line, serving our community. May they continue to serve in your hearts and memories

21.01.2022 Please do not donate goods! We are overwhelmed by donations in our relief centres and it is diverting resources away from critical tasks. The best way you can help impacted communities is through financial donations. Visit vic.gov.au/bushfireappeal to help us help these communities.

19.01.2022 Tuesdays nights training under a red sun We had 3 new recruits come out and train with us. This training session involved boosting from a hydrant and running a relay of running out hoses, shutting off the water, adding another hose and turning the water back on, all to push a ball down the road. A burn over drill was also sprung on them. It wasnt all hard work though, of course the crew turned it into a water fight. ... As we always say, training never stops. And were always open to taking on new recruits!

15.01.2022 IMPORTANT message for residents of Latrobe City Council who have water tanks. Please note the Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting there to be a high chance of ...a thunderstorm activity and rain in the west Gippsland during this afternoon and evening. Due to the bushfires in East Gippsland and Tasmania, if you rely on tank water for drinking, we suggest you be proactive and disconnect your downpipes before this rain comes. Ash, debris or smoke particles on your roof catchment can enter your tank during rain events. To help prevent further debris from entering your tank it is best to disconnect your downpipes. 11.01.2022 Lake Narracan has been closed following the detection of Blue Green Algae (BGA). Blue Green Algae are naturally occurring organisms present in most waterways. ...The Lake contains different types of algae at varying levels as part of the natural environment of the waterway. Many factors can trigger a Blue Green Algae bloom such as warm weather conditions, nutrient levels, low water inflows and low storage volumes. The results of water samples have detected a bloom at various locations along the foreshore. The level of algal growth now makes the waters unsuitable for recreational use. Warning signs have been erected at all public access points to the Lake advising people to stop using the waterway until further notice. Users of the facility should seek to utilise alternative waterways in the region for activities such as swimming, skiing and windsurfing. Exposure to BGA can cause skin allergies, eye irritations and gastric disorders. Some green discolouration or odours can be expected and surface scums may affect some areas. Latrobe City Council will continue to regularly monitor the water and liaise with other authorities. Any changes to the situation will be reported.

04.01.2022 Spot the difference Can you tell us what the difference between these two photos is? Update: The first photo of a water point has not been marked with a road side hydrant marker, whilst the second photo is marked with a white triangle on the road as well as a hydrant marker with a blue reflector. These two photos show how big of a difference the hydrant markers make when it comes to finding a point to sink a hydrant during a firefighting situation, particularly at night t...ime. This is why we make sure we know where the water points are in our area.

04.01.2022 We have an exciting announcement Bunnings Sausage Sizzles are BACK On Saturday the 14th of November we will back at Traralgon East Bunnings cooking up a feast! ... We’ve all missed a good ol’ Bunnings snag, so come on down, and say g’day to the crew, we’re keen to see you there!

04.01.2022 Leaving early is the safest option. Deciding to wait and see, and leaving at the last minute, risks your life, your family and friends life and the lives of the firefighters who are trying to protect your property. Prepare. Act. Survive

03.01.2022 It’s finally Christmas tomorrow! We are all so excited that we’re lucky enough to spend it with our family’s tomorrow. And with such perfect weather! But please remember to be safe this Christmas ... 02.01.2022 Over the next few days you may see some of our fire trucks as we significantly increase our capability to protect communities in East Gippsland. These trucks in... convoy (strike teams and task forces) are travelling to be in position a head of expected dangerous fire weather from Saturday to Tuesday. Please be mindful that with such a large deployment (additional 65 CFA trucks heading east along the Princes Hwy) you may encounter some minor delays. They will be travelling in convoy of five trucks and a leader vehicle. They will require refuelling at some locations to be in position Saturday. Our approach to safety is front of mind in all of our operations. With large numbers of CFA trucks heading along the Princes Hwy in their Strike Team / Task Force configuration, we will make every effort to minimise any inconvenience while also maintaining safety for our crews and others on the road. This additional CFA support from the outer metropolitan area of Melbourne and other locations across Victoria is part of CFAs surge capacity to move large numbers of Firefighters according to risk. This latest deployment is on the back of our 55 CFA Tankers and crews that were recently sent to NSW Bushfires rotating over the past 2 months (now returned to Victoria).

02.01.2022 Important announcement We regret to inform the Traralgon community, in accordance with CFA COVID policy surrounding community engagement, Traralgon East VOLUNTEER fire brigade will not be able to help Bunnings recommence their community Sausage Sizzle fundraiser this Saturday as we planned and advertised. These fundraising events are vital to volunteer brigades, and help fund the upgrading and maintaining of equipment and skills. We have been escalating our request for... review within the CFA and through our local MP, hoping for a last minute change - unfortunately, the CFA feels This proposed fund raising activity is deemed to be a risk to service delivery for our firefighters. However, will still be awaiting our community and responding to emergency’s as the CFA has an ongoing commitment to the community and the state of Victoria to ensure that our ability to respond to fires and emergencies is not compromised so please do not worry - you will see a fire truck when you need one! We have undertaken specific COVID training to ensure we adhere to the strictest safety precautions for our members, you, your family and our community. Unfortunately we have been unable to convince the CFA that a community fundraisining opportunity presents an extremely low risk, especially when meeting the agreed Bunnings safety requirements. We are expecting further advice in the week commencing 23rd November 2020 As our local MP Russell North raised in parliament on Wednesday, to prohibit us from participating in vital fundraising events goes against the Andrew’s Governments most recent easing of restrictions and is something we are extremely disappointed in. We would like to thank Bunnings Traralgon for giving us the opportunity to help recommence their community fundraisers, however we have been unsuccessful in our appeal to CFA leadership to overturn their decision. We deeply apologise and hope you will continue to support us at our next opportunity with Bunnings when we obtain approval from CFA. Thanks again for your ongoing support! Traralgon East VOLUNTEER Fire Brigade. TRFM

02.01.2022 The crew at Traralgon East Fire Brigade, would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas Have a safe an wonderful day

01.01.2022 The Fire Danger period for the Latrobe Valley will commence at 1am December 14th. You still have time to clean up your property and prepare for fire season https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/pla/how-to-prepare-your-property ... Prepare.Act.Survive

01.01.2022 If youre currently staying in or considering travelling this weekend to East Gippsland, NOW is the time to make an informed decision for you and your families ...safety. East Gippsland has some of the best recreational areas; fishing, boating, swimming, water skiing, camping, hiking, mountain bike riding, scenic drives. The list goes on..... You may have a routine every year or it may be your first time to East Gippsland this Christmas - New Year. But this year isnt the same, its very different from past years for this same period. So whats different this year? Over 3 years of drought and 3 large active uncontrolled bushfires in the landscape close to communities combined with 4 days of very challenging fire weather commencing Saturday until Tuesday. Reflecting on my own personal experience with these bushfires and the dangerous fire behaviour experienced over the past month while we try to control them. I would carefully reconsider my plans to not be in the bush in East Gippsland over this weekend. Many areas can become isolated if bushfires were to impact. We will be challenged under the forecast fire weather conditions to respond on the ground and in the air. If you do decide to stay, you must maintain good situational awareness, monitor the VicEmergency app and importantly have a plan. Plan. Act. Survive.
