25.01.2022 Great News for Club Members! We've been working on ideas to get the Club back to Thursday runs, and we’re close to refining this! All members who are keen to get back to running on Thursdays, and can commit to regularly running over an 8-week season, need to make contact with the Club President and get themselves on the list.... The basic idea will be that groups of 10 (this may change as restrictions ease) will do an allocated Thursday run, at 6pm in a different location each week, starting Thursday 15th October and running to Thursday 3rd December, with the 10th of December a club special run, and hopefully the 17th of December a Christmas Break-up! If you're keen to get back to running in this first stage of Club Thursday runs, you must make contact to get onto the list. Comment on this post (don't just like, that doesn't qualify), or contact via the club FB messenger, message the President Phill Mayer directly, or text/call mobile 0409 878 688. You will need to do this by Tuesday 6th October (next Tuesday) so lists can be collated and published in next week’s newsletter. We have many AV members who rarely do Thursday runs, so to make the organisation easier, and the Covid management smooth, we’ll need to know who is committed to running in their group most weeks. It might not be a full club run, but it’s a start and moving a step closer to normal. Please note, you MUST make contact and get yourself on the list to be in an allocated group of 10! NB: This is for MEMBERS ONLY! (It’s easy to become a member by jumping on the Traralgon Harriers website and following the link or via the Athletics Victoria website)! As restrictions ease, we’ll get bigger groups together as we’re allowed within the rules! We’re all missing the running, the friendships and the club! Stay healthy, stay safe!

24.01.2022 Don't forget, today is your last chance to get on the Thursday Run start-back list! You must be on the list and in a designated group to run, you must be a club member, and you need to make direct contact. This is for Covid management and insurance purposes. Groups and run locations will be published in the club newsletter this week. This season will run from Thursday 15th October. The response has been huge, with over half of club members on the list - But we don't want anyo...ne to miss out, so if you're keen, make contact now! This is just a way to start getting back to club runs, and as soon as we can do bigger club events and Thursday runs, we will! See previous post for contact details!

24.01.2022 Obviously no official timed Thursday Run today due to CV19, but outside exercise is permitted, so youre still allowed to go for a run (just not all together)! It would be excellent to hear what members, newbies and guests are doing, so share with us if you pounded the pavement or went for a bush trek! Not "Social Distancing - Physical Distancing and Social Solidarity, so stay in contact here with your friends and fellow runners!

24.01.2022 Bib Pick-up Today between 2-4 on Kay Street across from the Police Station - Avoid the rush tomorrow morning and make it easier for our volunteers! Yes! The Run is still on!

23.01.2022 The Harriers recently held their AGM to elect a new committee for the next 12 months, and although the meeting was unique by having to broadcast via Zoom due to Covid-19 restrictions, limiting the numbers of physical attendees, it was still very positive and productive. President Phillip A. Mayer was elected for another term at the helm, along with Edi Murat as Vice President and Ann Bomers as Treasurer. Bryan Cake stepped down from the Secretary role after 3 years, but stays... on the committee as an ordinary member. Alfie Warner steps up to the role of Secretary. Ordinary Members Molly Irvine, Michael Walker, Stephen McLeod, Pete Sanders, Tom Irvine & Kaye Livingstone all committed for another year, and are joined by new member Stephen Renehan. This is a very strong mix of skills and abilities, and an excellent representation of unity going forward. Although we cant be together running Thursdays, AV teams or our weekend events right now, we continue to plan for the future with enthusiasm and inclusivity for all club members.

17.01.2022 Dear Members We are incredibly blessed to have such loyal and committed Members, and a Club with an outstanding history, which has been growing and thriving over the last 12 months. Now even more so, is a time to stand together and support our club, our friends and our local running community. In consideration of the current situation, and having so many questions about Memberships, the Committee have decided to offer a Discounted Membership for the 2020/21 year, both as a re...ward for supporting the Club and as an incentive to maintain your Membership. A Full Years Membership will be $80 for a club Recreational Runner if paid before 31st May (plus $10 Athletics Victoria Membership). This includes all the benefits of Harriers Membership. Just go to the Athletics Victoria Members Portal, and if youve been a member all your details should automatically appear. If youre a new member, youll need to create an account. You select Traralgon Harriers Athletic Club and Recreational Runner and the discount will be automatically applied. For those enthusiastic Members that have already joined and paid, we will organise a refund of the discounted portion of your fees. As a Club, we also understand some Members may be facing hardship, so in goodwill, were offering to sign up Members and they can pay when their situation improves. Questions and assistance can be directed to Club Secretary Bryan Cake 0408 201 200. In these uncertain times, maintaining physical distancing and good hand hygiene are the most critical things we can do, to not only combat COVID-19, but also to help get us back to running Harriers as soon as possible. We do encourage Members to continue their running with their 1 allowed running buddy, and to maintain communication with your fellow Harriers, both for mental and physical health. Lastly, I would like to reaffirm to Members our commitment to keeping our community updated during this period. As is always the way, speculation and rumours about a return date continue swirling, but rest assured that as soon as we have confirmation of any further details regarding re-starting Harriers activities, or anything else of significance to our Club, we will be sure to let you know. Stay safe, stay healthy, stay positive! Phill Mayer, President with and on-behalf of the Harriers Committee

17.01.2022 What an excellent day all round! The 22nd DFP Recruitment Latrobe Fun Run is done, and from all accounts, it was a huge success! We were exceptionally fortunate to be able to run the event under current circumstances and we appreciate everyone coming out and being a part of this annual community fun run, raising money for a very worthy charity! Thank you again to all the sponsors, community organisations, businesses and participants for making it another wonderful, supportiv...e and fun event! Now is the perfect time to join the Traralgon Harriers, and become a member of an inclusive, encouraging and vibrant club, and have some company whatever your running goals may be! 17.01.2022 Happy Birthday to another club legend and Life Member Bruce Salisbury! Aside from being an epic runner in his time, Bruces contribution to the Harriers over many, many years has been priceless, invaluable and unparalleled! He has performed every job possible at the club including Race Director, course-marker and amazing trophy-maker! His legacy is assured! On behalf of all members, we wish Brucey the happiest of birthdays, and many more runs and continued involvement with a club he has loved for so long!

16.01.2022 Another wonderful article this week in The Latrobe Valley Express by our own intrepid reporter Barry Higgins, about the Traralgon Marathon and one of our champion runners Ian Cornthwaite. Its a great read and wonderful to acknowledge our Clubs history. Theres still a positive attitude and hope that we can maintain the record for being the longest running marathon in Australia, and run our 53rd event in some shape or form in 2020!

16.01.2022 Stopped in our tracks! After months of restrictions and members doing the right thing, with hope that the situation was getting better, with plans in place to restart, and with the positive energy generated by the Thursday 20 groups, in the blink of an eye, it changes again! Back to stage 3 restrictions! This means running with 1 friend only for the next 6 weeks, and everyone needs to carry a facemask for when youre not actually running!... Its obviously incredibly disappointing for members, and were all looking forward to getting back to the club, to our friends and to some semblance of normality with our running - Were frustrated and sad, fearful and angry, but the bottom line is, we need to stay healthy and protect the community! Well all get through this and get back to club activities when regulations allow! In the meantime, members and friends, stay healthy, find a buddy to run with and most of all, stay positive that if we do the right thing, well be back to Harriers as soon as we can!

15.01.2022 Mental health and awareness is a big part of why people run and are involved in the Harriers. Having social connections, friends to run with, being part of a team and a place to belong are all essential elements towards maintaining mental fitness. The Traralgon Harriers support, encourage and advocate positive mental health via engagement in our weekly runs, and we run an annual event that specifically raises awareness and funds for a fantastic organisation Lifeline Gippsland.... When we can get back to group events, our Memorial Run will be one of the first. If members need support dont hesitate to reach out, and if youre not a member, consider joining our welcoming, supportive and inclusive club.

15.01.2022 The 54th Marathon may be postponed, but it WILL go ahead! Good to see Harriers champions Kate Elinda & Andrew Greenhill representing the club along with President Phillip A. Mayer Thanks to 9 News Gippsland

14.01.2022 Happy 90th Birthday to our oldest living Life Member Ray Ellis! Ray has been a wonderful member of the club for many years, and is an absolute inspiration to all! The annual Ray & Doris Ellis Run at Wirilda Park is named in his (and his dearly departed wifes) honour, as a testimony to how much he has contributed to the club, and for the esteem in which he is held. Ray was still running and attending Thursday runs well into his 80s. A true legend!... On behalf of all Harriers Members and the running community in general, we wish Ray the happiest of birthdays, continued health, much laughter and ongoing association with the club.

13.01.2022 To our valued members and club supporters. Just when we were excited that wed be able to get things going again, the situation changes! In light of the re-tightening of restrictions, we once again must press pause on the re-starting of Thursday club runs, until restrictions again ease.... The constantly changing rules and regulations around the Corona Virus are obviously perplexing and quite a burden for all of the community to navigate, and frustrated is probably the apt word to describe where we sit as a club. But the number one consideration must be the health and safety of members and our community, and of course, the adherence to the rules. So again, for the immediate term, (until the next change in rules on July 12), we are limited to 20 runners in a group. If you have been meeting with a group, we encourage you to continue doing that and maintain your connections. There have been many suggestions and ideas around how we could run Thursdays considering the current rules, and of course wed all love to get back to running, but the reality of trying to manage and coordinate things under the tightened conditions is far too cumbersome. It puts at risk not only the health of running members and the community, but from a legal position, the committee. We apologise for on-again, off-again messages, but obviously things are outside the clubs control. Well continue to be flexible and ready to adapt to government and health directives as they are issued. Thank you for your support and understanding and know that when we can, we will. Keep running, stay healthy.

12.01.2022 Groups of 10 have been allowed in the last couple of weeks, and the Harriers encourages members to get together and organise small runs, within the rules and adhering to physical distancing, with no high fives of course! Obviously we cant organise official club runs yet - When we can get back to full club Thursday runs we will In the meantime, connect with your running friends and run safe

12.01.2022 POSTPONED - Traralgon Marathon and Running Festival. Members, Friends, Past Participants and Fellow Runners In consideration of Federal and State Government directives and advice from the CMO in regards to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Traralgon Harriers have decided to postpone the 53rd running of the Traralgon Marathon originally planned for Sunday June 14th 2020 until a future date.... Currently we have not determined when we will hold the event this year and as a committee we are planning to wait until we have a little more clarity around the hosting of events. With this in mind, once we are able to communicate a date we will do so by our websites and Facebook page. The current situation is obviously unprecedented and is impacting all areas of our lives but we feel this decision is the responsible one to make for the health and wellbeing of all our members, participants, volunteers and the public. The physical and mental health of our members and runners alike is of prime concern, along with the welfare of the community. And we have faith that we will be running this event in the not too distant future. To all, be safe, be kind and stay healthy. Traralgon Harriers President and Committee

11.01.2022 From a quiet street in the early morning, through to the Harriers setting up, the community and business displays, the arrival of the runners, the kids run, the main event, presentations and the pack up - The 2020 event was the last event of its kind in Voictoira before the Corona Virus shut down the state - What a great day it was, and herewith, lots of great photos to remember a fantastic day!

10.01.2022 2020 Half Marathon winners Clinton Jolly (1:34:47) and Kay Arrowsmith (1:42:32) cross the line!

It’s going to be a wonderful day that will honour the history of our iconic club event! 53 consecutive years! The oldest running marathon in Australia! This year it looks different and it’s for members only, but it’s going to be memorable and an event no-one who runs it will ever forget! 08.01.2022 Do not panic! Yes the DFP Recruitment Latrobe Fun Run is going ahead! We have less than 500 entrants, and the 500 limit does not come into affect until Monday - It is a precautionary measure! Australias Chief Medical Officer states "The risk to the Australian community is low".... Use common sense in regards to hygiene, and thank you to Fitness 4U for the advice notice - We will have all the precautions in place and unfortunately there will be no high-fives or handshakes - If you are not feeling well, please do not run on the day! If things change in the next 48 hours, you will be notified! Thank you for your support!

08.01.2022 Attention all entrants in the 2021 Traralgon Marathon & Running Festival Due to the announcement made today by the State Government in regards to Covid-19, the 2021 Traralgon Marathon and Running Festival has been postponed until Sunday July 11. This will hopefully allow time for gathering and venue restrictions to ease, and mean that Metro and interstate entrants will be able to attend.... This is a regrettable but necessary decision, and we apologise for any inconvenience to runners, sponsors and supporters, but it means that the event will still go ahead at a time that is reasonable and practical. The event organisers and club officials have put in a mountain of work to ensure the event is not only a great running event for participants, but is also safe, welcoming and supportive. We take this course of action due to necessity in regards to regulations and the safety of the community. The event will go ahead as planned on July 11, dependent upon further advice and restrictions. The Traralgon Harriers will follow its CovidSafe Plan and the CovidSafe Framework. The entry site is also now re-opened and taking new entries. Thank you to all for your understanding during a difficult and frustrating time for the community. Stay tuned for further updates. There were many great stories on the night, from first-time track runners, many new members, overcoming personal health issues, and of course the racing across 4 handicaps so everyone could give it a go!... Last week we had our first ever Pairs Aggregate; next week it's our legendary Xmas Run & Break-up! It's a great time to be Harrier!
