24.01.2022 It took almost 12 months to complete, but it was worth the wait for Chris Mackintosh who today became the 2019-20 Minor Singles Champion. Up against 3 time runner up in the event, Jeff Blythman and Chris had an enthralling game. Chris came from behind to catch Jeff at 23 shots all, and two ends later was able to claim victory. Congratulations Chris. Today also saw the semi final of this years Men's "A" Grade with Ross McKenzie and Ross Sizeland to do battle next Sunday at 1:30pm for the title.

23.01.2022 Last Sunday 15 Players lined up to try to win the coveted title of Mens Cock of the Walk 2019. Good weather and good greens made for some exciting games in this lightning quick knockout competition. The final was a shootout between David Hodson and Alan Kanavan, where David showed he has lost no form after having a year away from the Club, to be our Cock of the Walk. Congratulations to David and all of the Bowlers who put on a great spectical for our first Club event for the season. Keep your eye on the breezeway for sheets of coming events and especially for those starting barefoot bowls when daylight saving starts.

23.01.2022 Another great result for our Winter Pennant Bowlers today with the Bombers up 32-10 over the Crows and have now jumped from 10th to 7th and the Lions drew with the Hawks and have moved up to 2nd on the ladder. Well done to all the Bowlers, keep up the great work. Next week the Bombers play the Giants (Trafalgar) and the Lions play the Swans (Morwell Club).

23.01.2022 The Australian Day long weekend allowed for the running of the final of the club Championship Mixed Fours. In a very entertaining game, the team of Paul Hobson, Elaine Muir, Max Plant and Mary Collins went down narrowly to Maurie Sutcliffe, Ron Osler, Julie Sutcliffe and Lorraine Osler. Congratulations to both teams for a great game

23.01.2022 Today a team of R.S.L. bowlers travelled to Newborough to battle the other seven clubs who have division 1 teams for the right to hold the Eric McGilton Shield. Our boys were victorious. being the only club to win 6 games. Congratulations to all who made themselves available.

23.01.2022 Better day for the Winter Pennant today with both the Bombers and Lions redeeming themselves from last weeks disaster. Today the Bombers won 27 - 18 over Power (Newborough) jumping back into the 4 from 7th, and the Lions won 23 - 19 over the Cats (Churchill) and climbed back 2 spots up to 9th. Go RSL Bowls. Next week Bombers play Tigers (Traralgon) on rink 5 and the Lions play Power (Newborough) on the next rink 6. Hope to see all our supporters there again next Sunday.

22.01.2022 The Traralgon R.S.L. Ladies Championship Fours was conducted on Thursday. This seasons finalist were the side of Kathy Smiles, Joyce Tudor, Dianne Hilsley and M...argaret Morley against Margaret Gibbins, Shirley McKenzie, Julie Sutcliffe and Val Richards. In a very close and entertaining game, Kathys team got away to the better start and were up 10 to 5 at the half way mark, but a five late in the game to Margarets team saw them take the lead which they held onto until the end, winning by two shots. Congratulations to both teams for a thrilling game of bowls. See more

21.01.2022 What a great game of bowls we were treated to on Thursday with the final of the Ladies A Grade Singles Championship. Last years finalists Kathy Smiles and Margaret Gibbins again battled it out for the top honour. In a game that could have gone either way, it was Kathy that was able to hold her nerve in the dying stages to win the title. Congratulations Kathy.

21.01.2022 A big weekend at the RSL Bowls this weekend, firstly the Friday night raffles are going well with our bowlers giving their time to make sure the draws go smoothly. Saturday was a good day for our Division 1 Pennant with a good win over Trafalgar. Sunday was the semi finals of the Men's Pairs with the Final between Morice Gardiner and Beau Williamson against Dale (Bull) Wilson and Paul Matters being played Monday afternoon. Congratulations go to Morice and Beau (pictured) for... a good win. Sunday night was our Christmas break-up tea combined with last seasons presentation night. Veteran badges were presented to Shirley and Tony Richardson, Val Richards and in her absence, Betty McLean. Special appreciation awards were presented to Brendon Smiles and Brian Wilkinson. Monday saw our Monthly Jackpot Triples commence after the covid break with Brian Rogers team from Moe collecting their $900 jackpot. The R.S.L. Bowls group wish all our followers a Merry Christmas and a Safe and prosperous New Near. See more

21.01.2022 Great week for our Bowlers today winning both games. Lions are back up in 2nd spot and Bombers back up to 7th. Next Sunday morning Lions play Demons (Morwell) and Bombers play Hawks (Yarram).

21.01.2022 The cool conditions and a slow green made it quite a challenge for Elaine Muir and Lorraine McClare in the final of the ladies "B" Grade Singles Championship held today. Elaine got off to a good start, but that didnt deter Lorraine who worked her way back into the match to be level at 18 shots each. It was a thrilling finish, but Elaine regained the initiative and went on to win 21-19. Congratulations ladies.

20.01.2022 The semi-finals of the Ladies 100 up was played this morning in cool conditions. Shirley McKenzie overcame Marg Morley with excellent bowling from both. In the other semi-final Julie Sutcliffe beat Adrianna also in a great exhibition of draw bowling. This afternoon the final was played in bright sunshine between Shirley and Julie. Shirley got off to a flying start with some superb bowling but Julie fought back with some great bowls to close to the finish. Shirley managed to get the lead back in the last 4 ends with the final score 102 to 88 after a great display of bowling from both.

20.01.2022 Congratulations go out to Rick Lukey and Ross McKenzie on winning this seasons club championship Pairs. Congratulations also to runners up Chris Mackintosh and Alan Kanavan who overcame some strong opposition in the early rounds to make the final. The Traralgon R.S.L. Bowls Club wish all their Facebook followers a happy and safe festive season.

20.01.2022 Firstly an apology for the wrong date for WGBD Opening which is on the 31st August not the first. Both teams went down today Bombers to Demons by 4 shots and the lions to Giants (Traf). Lions dropped to 4th so play off next week while the Bombers dropped to 10th. Good luck to the Lions in the finals play-off.

19.01.2022 The Kate Tilbury Shield was held at the indoor venue at Traralgon on Tuesday. The competition is between all clubs with Division 3 and 4 in Tuesday Pennant. The R.S.L. was asked to make up a second side to cover the absence of one of the other clubs. This side consisting of Mary Collins, Lorraine Osler, Val Richards and Betty McLean who won all their 3 games, to finish second for the day. Congratulations ladies, a great achievement.

18.01.2022 Congratulations to our David Hodson winning his way through to the Last 12 of the Over 60 State singles and also Dianne Hilsleys Hubby Ian. Turn up to Traralgon BC this Friday 18th to support David in his next round and also Marg Gibbins in the Ladies State over 60s.

18.01.2022 One up, one down again today. Lions up today over the Traralgon Blues and remain in 3rd, while the Bombers went down to the Inverloch Suns and have dropped to 9th. Next week the Lions play Traralgon Bulldogs and the Bombers play the Traralgon Blues.

17.01.2022 Yesterday (Thursday 19th) the Ladies had 9 entries take to the green for their 2019/20 100 Up event with some great bowling in bright sunny conditions. Next Thursday 26th at 10:00am, Margaret Morley and Shirley McKenzie, and Julie Sutcliffe and Adrianna Eaton will battle it out in the Semi-finals for a spot in the final in the afternoon. Do not forget the Ladies v Men Pennant Challenge (Gavin Lahore Day) tomorrow, please get your names down on the sheet in the breezeway.

15.01.2022 Bowls Opening today in very cold windy conditions with the greens closed due to the amount of rain we have received. A first "Kitty" was still rolled by Margaret Gibbins the Ladies Champion and the first bowl Rolled by Morice Gardiner Mens Runner Up in the absence of Ross McKenzie. Good numbers attended which is a good start for our season.

14.01.2022 Great day with the Winter Pennant today, Bombers up by 1 shot over the Bulldogs (Traralgon), and the Lions up by 15 shots over the Crows (Rosedale). Sorry no update on the Ladder positions. Next week, round 10, Lions v Hawks (Yarram) and the Bombers v Crows(Rosedale). Keep up the good work Guys, Go RSL.

14.01.2022 Some great bowls were bowled today in the Men's Cock of the Walk. Ian Eddy needed an extra end to defeat Morice Gardiner on his way to the semi final along with the other semi finalist in Frank Metcalf. That left Gordon Bakker and Ross McKenzie to play out the final. In a see sawing match with only one shot in it at the finish it was Ross that took out this years Cock of the Walk. Special thanks to the helpers that made the game happen, in particular Brendon Smiles for preparing the green, and Maurie Sutcliffe for running the day.

12.01.2022 It was the battle of the Ross's for the title of club champion 2020-21, in what could be best described as trying conditions. It was McKenzie who got the early start, but it wasn't long before Sizeland evened the scores and from then on it was an even contest. It was the experience of the 3 time club champion that paid off in the end with Sizeland making it 4 titles in a thrilling 24 - 25 win. Congratulations to both players for an entertaining game.

12.01.2022 A mixed day at winter pennant again today. Lions up by 6 over the Tigers (Tgon) while the Bombers went down by 11 to Dockers (Tgon). Ladder, Lions have jumped to 3rd and the bombers dropped to 11th. Next week round 8, the Lions v Saints (Mwell Bowls) and the Bombers v Roos (Heyfield).

12.01.2022 Last Sunday was the final of the Mens Triples Championship between Beau Williamsons team of Kevin Durward and Brian Wilkinson, and Ron Oslers team with Doug Cheney and Ian Eddy. In what was a very skilful game, Beau and his team were able to get over the line, making it two in a row for Beau and Brian. Congratulations to all.

10.01.2022 It only took eight months, but Friday the final of the 2019/20 Championship Mixed Pairs was conducted. The team of Elaine Muir and Daryl (Titch) Hore went head to head with Julie and Maurie Sutcliffe. After 14 of the schedule 18 ends, there was only three shots difference with the Sutcliffe's ahead although having only winning six ends. A strong finish by the Sutcliffe's saw them comfortable winners. The lack of spectators due to covid rules seemed to suit Julie as she was the outstanding bowler on the day. A great game witnessed by so few. Congratulations to both teams.

10.01.2022 Getting ready for Pennant 2019/20, Could any men looking to play Midweek Pennant this year, or those wishing to fill in for midweek please put your names on the sheet in the breezeway. Saturday Pennant Bowlers keep a look out for a sheet in the Breezeway also. See you on the greens soon

09.01.2022 Not the way the club would have liked to end the 2019-20 season, with still two club championships to be completed and postponed AGM and presentation evening. Still one championsihp that was finished just in time was the Ladies Triples, the winners pictured here are the team of Kathy Smiles, Lyn Bloomfield and Jenny Preston, they were able to overcome Pat Warfe, Joan Lee and Lorraine Mc Clare. Congratulations all, a great match.

Some great bowls to go and watch and also support our Boys who will hopefully be there.

07.01.2022 Apologies for the time delay for results for the winter pennant, the carrier pigeon is a bit slow so results may not hit the site till Mondays sometimes. Mixed day yesterday with the bombers down to the Tigers (Traralgon) and the Lions won over the Power (Newborough) the team the Bombers beat last week. Lions have jumped to 6th and the Bombers dropped to ninth, fair indication of how strong the competition is, 7 teams battling to fill the 3rd and 4 spots on the ladder. Next week Bombers play Dockers (Traralgon) and the Lions play the Tigers (Traralgon)

07.01.2022 Even though the conditions were quite cool the R.S.L. ladies ran a very successful tournament. With teams from Leongatha, Maffra, West Sale, Moe, Newbourgh, Morwell Club, Morwell and Traralgon attending. After a warm up with a Spider and a Ditch to Ditch the games got underway in ernist, after 3 games of 10 ends, the winners were Pat Trewins team from Traralgon (pictured). Heather Mooneys side from Newbourgh came runner-up, while the teams of Tess Borg and Leanne Broadbent from Morwell Club shared the best last game.

Finishing on a 16 shot win, congrats also go to the Bombers for todays effort. See you all on the green next Saturday for our Bowls Opening.

06.01.2022 A great weekend for the R.S.L with the Saturday Pennant Bowls teams all winning. Division 1 after a good win last week over Newborough went one better on Saturday when they defeated the previously undefeated Traralgon side, divisions 3 and 5 completed the day both winning away matches. Sunday saw the completion of the A Grade Championship. The morning session saw 2 very exciting games with George Cargill getting into the final with a narrow win over Maurice Sutcliffe and Ross McKenzie getting over Alan Kanavan in another very close game. In the final Ross got away to an early lead, although bowling well George was unable to make up the lost ground. Congratulations Ross on back to back Championships.

05.01.2022 Today saw Lions lose and now play off next week to decide 3rd & 4th. Bombers drew with Tigers (Traralgon). Last game for the Winter Pennant next Sunday morning. Do not forget, anyone wanting to start bowls and enjoy a fun night, Monday nights 5:30 when daylight saving starts/ SEE YOU ALL SOON !!!!

05.01.2022 Today saw the Semi Final and Final of the Mens100 Up Championship. The morning game saw Ian Eddy shake off Adrian Fairley to progress to the final while Morice Gardiner had a very close game against Alan Kanavan until some well placed up shots by Morice claimed big numbers to get him into the final. In the final, the consistancy of Ians draw bowling did not allow Morice to get to the lead at all during the game. In what was an enjoyable game to watch Ian held his nerve to be this seasons 100 Up champion. Congratulations Ian.

04.01.2022 Before and after photos of our Division 3 (now division 2) sides at the Grand Final. After last weeks nail biting 1 shot win against Morwell at Moe, our legion of supporters fronted up at Traralgon bowls club to see the players do battle against the strong Thorpdale side. They werent to be disappointed. As the game see-sawed throughout the day, down early, up by 3 shots at afternoon tea only to slip behind again, then rally to tie the game after the allotted 100 ends. The coin was tossed and the nail biting began all over again. It didnt look too good being even over three rinks and Brendon Smiles 5 shots down with only one bowl left, with nerves of steel Brendon trusted his judgement, played into the head to turn 5 down into 2 up to win the match. Congratulations to all involved and good luck in Division 2.

04.01.2022 Results not in yet but will publish them soon. Next week Bombers v Demons (Morwell) and Lions v Giants (Trafalgar). Do not forget our season starts 1st August WGBD Opening and ours the following weekend. 03.01.2022 Cold windy day today for the annual Norm Howlett Shield played between Traralgon and Traralgon RSL. We had 9 rinks take to the greens to contest this event which started back in 1971 RSL had not won since 2014. Today with 5 of the 9 rinks up and shots 187 to 185 our way, victory to RSL. Great start to our pennant season with victories over Traralgon and Moe in our practice matches. Attached photo is Deputy Chairman Ross Mckenzie holding both the original and current shields

01.01.2022 The partly finished ladies pairs championship final was concluded on Thursday in very cold and windy conditions. Recommencing the game with a 2 shot deficit, Pat Warfe and Shirley McKenzie won the first 2 ends to level the score before Kathy Smiles and Joyce Tudor gained control building a commanding lead before Pat picked up the kitty to pick up six shots to reduce the lead to only 4 shots, but Kathy and Joyce steadied again to go on to a good win. Congratulations to both teams having to battle each other and the elements.
