20.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS We are very excited to announce that following a long and exhaustive investigative process, Traralgon South Primary School will partner with In2Learning Gippsland to offer our school community outside of school hours care from 2021. This service will be located on site and will be available before and after school, during school holiday periods, and on student free days. More details will follow over the coming weeks!

19.01.2022 IMPORTANT INFORMATION PLEASE READ I have waited a long time to be able to share this news with our school community, and I have a huge smile on my face as I write this. Following the recent announcements regarding our transition to the Last Step of the Roadmap For Reopening last weekend, the Department of Education and Training have provided the following information to schools overnight. I have tried to simplify and summarise this as best as I am able, so if you would ...like additional information or clarification, please reach out and I’ll do my best to help. Firstly, parents and non-essential visitors are now allowed on-site again! Although physical distancing rules, the wearing of masks when physical distancing is not possible and when indoors, signing in/out, and density limits will apply, this is still very welcomed news! Pick-up and drop off zones no longer apply (though we have had lots of positive feedback about how this has eased congestion in our carpark so we encourage you to continue to use this approach wherever possible) Drinking fountains and taps are reopened for student use Intermixing between student year levels no longer needs to be minimised, so all our students can once again use any area of the yard during play breaks School tours can resume Our Year 6 Graduation and transition programs will continue to have a level of restrictions applied; however, these have eased. Any alterations to what are currently in place will be considered over the coming days and where necessary, be communicated soon. Our end-of-year Christmas Concert remains a possibility to go ahead as ‘normal’, though as per the above point, with a level of restrictions applied. Stay tuned for more information on this too as we investigate this further. Despite these big steps towards COVID normal, please remember that students who are unwell should stay home and get tested. Finally, I would like to sincerely thank everyone in our school community. The patience, understanding and support of our parents, students and staff through these crazy times has made my job much easier, and I’ll be the first to admit once or twice I wondered how we might get through it! We are so very fortunate to have each other please don’t ever forget this. Have a great Thursday! Joel Blythman Principal

18.01.2022 Good morning everyone, I hope this message finds you well and your weekend was a lovely one, likely spent celebrating the fathers in our lives. The context of this message relates to the announcement from our Premier yesterday, and more specifically, how the roadmap towards a return to school looks (pending an ongoing review of COVID-19 case numbers). As a quick summary, please be aware of the following key points: - All students in Victoria, aside from students at specialist... schools in regional and rural areas, will continue with a remote learning program for the remainder of Term 3. - Term 3 concludes on Friday 18 September. - The school holiday period runs from Saturday 19 September to Sunday 4 October. - Term 4 begins on Monday 5 October. - All students in Victoria, aside from students at specialist schools in regional and rural areas, will continue with a remote learning program for the first week of Term 4 (Monday 5 October to Friday 9 October). - In regional and rural areas, all students will begin returning to on-site schooling from the beginning of Week 2 of Term 4 (Monday 12 October). Individual schools have the ability to make localised decisions about staggering the return of students if they so choose, so long as all students have returned to on-site schooling by Friday 16 October. Please note the above information is subject to ongoing health advice and is designed to provide a roadmap for the coming weeks and months. There is a chance this may change, and as we get closer, we will be in a position to become more definitive with our information. As always, if you have any questions, please let me know. Regards, Joel Blythman Principal

15.01.2022 INTRODUCING OUR NEWEST MEMBER OF STAFF MADDISON (MADDIE) EDEBOHLS Please join us in welcoming Maddie Edebohls to our team of staff at Traralgon South Primary School. Maddie has joined us as an Integration Aide and brings a strong level of skill and experience to our school. Currently, Maddie is in her second year of studying a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood & Primary) at Swinburne University, and previously, Maddie has worked as an Integration Aide at Baringa Special School for 2 years, and for 12 months at Kosciuszko Street Primary School in Traralgon. Maddie has a strong connection with children and the community, particularly through coaching and umpiring local basketball teams. We are confident she will bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm to our school, and that our parents and students will welcome her accordingly.

15.01.2022 As announced several weeks ago, In 2 Learning Gippsland have been awarded a licence to operate an Outside School Hours Care service at our school. It is hoped this will be in place from the beginning of 2021, though there is a possibility vacation care over a portion of the summer holiday period may also be available to access. In 2 Learn Traralgon South will operate from Monday to Friday, with before school care from 7am - 8.45am, and after school care from 3.30pm - 6.00pm. ...Permanent, casual and short stay bookings can be made by registering and submitting your OSHC enrolment/s, along with a copy of your child's Immunisation record, to [email protected] We encourage all families to complete this enrolment process, even if you don't plan to use the service, as having this in place might just help you out of a bind should you get stuck at work or other plans fall through. Enrolment forms can be downloaded via the following link: https://www.traralgonsthps.vic.edu.au/outside-school-hours-

09.01.2022 ATTENTION ALL FAMILIES: I have just been advised by the Department of Education and Training that Traralgon South Primary School will be closed tomorrow (Friday 11 June) as a result of this week’s severe weather. Due to the storms, our school has been left with no power, and many roads to and from the school are too dangerous to travel.... I apologise for any inconvenience this has caused and thus a further interruption to your child's education, however the health and safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. We are working to have any damage assessed and repaired so all students can safely return to the classroom as soon as possible. I will continue to provide you with updates as more information comes to hand. If you have further questions, please contact me via Class Dojo or by commenting below. Kind regards, Joel Blythman Principal

04.01.2022 A huge thank you to our school community for supporting the annual 'Give A Damn, Give A Can' appeal, and to our student leaders for driving this campaign in our school. A massive 344 cans were collected in a beautiful display of many of our RIPPER values! The Rotary Club of Traralgon Central has been asking the Traralgon community to donate cans to the ‘Give a Damn, Give a Can’ appeal for the past 25 years. With the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on paid work for many in our community, we hope our contribution will make a positive difference to the wider collection and support those receiving assistance from the St Vincent de Paul food bank.

04.01.2022 As a part of our emergency management procedures, this morning we will be conducting a lockdown drill. If you are in the local area, please do not panic if you hear any sirens. Classroom teachers have spoken to their grades about what to expect and what they are required to do when the siren sounds, and we will also review our processes afterwards to identify any areas for improvement.

03.01.2022 We recently put a call out to our school community to see if we can share our collective wisdom and identify some clever little hints, tips and tricks that make life easier for us all during Remote Learning 2.0. Although we are forced to be apart, it does not mean we cannot still support one another. Thanks to those that have contributed to date, and please feel free to share your ideas so the attached document can continue to evolve. Hopefully some of these ideas make a positive difference to your day.

03.01.2022 ENROL NOW FOR 2022 Following our Open Day last week, we are now taking enrolments for 2022. Families are encouraged to enrol their child by Friday 27 August 2021 to secure their place.

02.01.2022 REMINDER With the craziness of current times, we can appreciate the deadline of Friday 28 August may have been something you overlooked. Please be reminded to submit enrolment documentation to our school as soon possible so we can include your child in our planning for 2021. If you have any questions, please call on 5195 5244, or alternatively, email the school at [email protected]

02.01.2022 REMOTE LEARNING 2.0 LIFE HACKS! Now we are into the second week of our Remote Learning 2.0 program, we are putting a call out to our school community to see if we can share our collective wisdom and identify some clever little hints, tips and tricks that make life easier for us all. These might not seem like a clever idea to you, but others may not have thought of it and wished they knew about it sooner, so please share your ideas by commenting below. We will then package these all up into a document to share with everyone. One idea to get this conversation started is to download and save the weekly Learn At Home package onto your desktop, to save you scrolling through all of the class story posts on Class Dojo.

01.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day, marking the national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that any day is the day to ask, R U OK? The theme for 2020 is ‘There’s more to say after R U OK?' R U OK? Day encourages everyone to check in on each other and to support those who may be struggling. It highlights the importance of having these conversations throughout the year, not just on the one day. This is very important every year, but particularly more so after a year of such disr...uption, with the additional stressors the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has placed on all of us personally, and the added impacts of isolation and difficulty to maintain connectedness in a virtual world. By having wellbeing conversations, we empower each other to access the support available for our mental health. These conversations are vital to reducing the barriers that often stop us from taking action. Tips and suggestions on how you can start a simple wellbeing conversation are available on the R U OK? website (www.ruok.org.au). You can also download virtual ‘supportive conversation cards’ for useful prompts and discussion points for speaking with someone. The cards also include a list of relevant supports to help guide someone in the right direction if you think they may benefit from additional support. We encourage you to reach out to someone you trust, including us here at Traralgon South Primary School, if ever you want to talk or would like further support. Please be sure to take the time to look after yourselves and one another, with our Feel Good Friday event tomorrow also proving timely. Take care, Joel Blythman Principal
