25.01.2022 Shout out to all the fabulous sewers making masks being part of the solution! You’re all doing such an incredible job that there is no elastic left in the universe! This will not stop us, we are resourceful and we find alternatives. Not everyone likes the ear elastic anyway so I’ll be experimenting today while I wait for the postie. I’m pumping them out as fast as I can, thanks for all the support, please share the Shopify site and stay safe! https://trash-bags-au.myshopify.com

25.01.2022 Wearing white has never really worked out for me, I always end with some kind of shmutz down my front, especially with three kids in tow. I also can’t resist a great #secondhandtee . So when I came across this little collection today in my clean up, I got straight to dyeing! Using #dylondye and some washing soda in my big pot, leaving it a couple of hours, I have transformed these white tee shirts. Very excited to have new shirts in my closet!! #upcyledclothing #slowclothing #textiledyeing #secondhandfashion #diydye

This second hand September I challenge you to find one thing in a second hand store that speaks to you. Show us what you find in the comments!

23.01.2022 I want to introduce you to two of my oldest friends meet Miss Piggy and Sock Monkey. These two along with many others were made by my grandmother in her wonderful farmhouse, outside a small town in New Zealand. Miss Piggy is beautifully made from an old dressing gown with a zip along her tummy, out of which spill six little baby piggies who attach to her tummy with press studs. Sock Monkey is well loved and missing an eye these days, made from odd socks with a perfect fri...endly expression. Grandma Elsie would make many of these and have them stored in her warm sunroom at the front of the farmhouse. As a child I loved exploring all her creations and marvelled at her skill and detail. I knew I couldn't keep them all as they were meant for the local kids in need. But sometimes I would get a little something to play with and take home, and I would spend hours inspecting how they were put together and I have cherished them with all my heart. She was my first inspiration in textile work, sewing and reuse. Being on a sheep farm meant that there were always raw materials available, and being the 1940s and 50s meant all the ladies on the farm were spinning wool and knitting at a young age. I’m grateful to be blessed with a very creative family and many inspiring influences. They gave me an appreciation of resources, skill and hard work. And now, dear Trash Bagger, I can pass this on to you for a better future for the next generations, and for your own sense of self-sufficiency and some fresh individual style. #upcycledclothing #upcycled #classictoys #textilewaste #handmade #sockmonkey #misspiggy #trashbagsgm #reducereuserecycle #familyheritage #sustainableliving See more

21.01.2022 Cloth gift wrapping, or "furoshiki" as it is known in Japan, is the green swap you've been dreaming of. Imagine the endless traditions that can some from this... 21.01.2022 Here are some sample Penny Skirts (based on the Cheesecake Factory skirt from #bigbangtheory), feminine and flattering. What other colour ways would you like to see? Red and black?? Purple? Blue? These are all size 12s with a contoured waist fit. Coming in sizes 8 to 18 in a straight waist or contoured waist fit. Made to measure, and in your choice of fabrics. Most of my fabrics are rescued and donated, in the hope of slowing the stream of textiles ending up in the bin.
