25.01.2022 And yes, thats a real snake!!!! And yes, I used a long lens!
25.01.2022 Travel. The Future. For me, travel is about meeting the people and learning of their life and culture through them. Travel has changed with more and more ethical questions being posed and I am continually presenting ways in the way we travel with these questions in mind. Parallel 50 has prevented the use of thousands of plastic water bottles since 2011 by the use of a UV sterilising pen for drinking tap water enabling clients to use their own drink bottle. We have also embark...ed on our own tree planting programs to offset our carbon usage from flights. Offsetting my flights is minute compared to my car usage but the trouble is I am only one person on that flight. Every person needs to take responsibility. One thing I do know about my style of travel is there would not be one person that has not returned from their journey with Parallel 50 without taking to heart valuable lessons in life. Compassion. Respect. Appreciation. Understanding. Gratitude. Resilience. Choice. Connection. These are to name but a few. We learn so much to help us be guided on our path in life where perhaps in our modern world we may have strayed. Who can say how my business will fare in all this but if all I have ever achieved in these amazing life experience journeys is to allow for myself and my travellers to open their hearts and minds to a truer way of living and being then its a wonderful and good thing. Sending love and kindness to all and a special piece of my heart to my beautiful travellers and our friends in other countries who have been such a large part of our journey. We have a lot more to learn and experience yet dear world. 25.01.2022 Exquisite! Morocco with Parallel 50. Next Morocco tour April 2020 www.parallel50.com.au
25.01.2022 Story Behind the Photo #8 The annual trading fair is a place of lively activity auctioning camels, horses, cattle and livestock alongside all the fun of the carnival with rides and stalls. As livestock is slowly being replaced with machinery these market events will take a different turn. Herders from afar gather at this more remote fair in Rajasthan to hope for a good return from their breeding stock. Seeing very few foreigners in this area we were quite the attraction as we... loved meeting children and old men from the countryside. We were welcomed warmly with lots of shy laughter and fun exchanges. But it was serious business as soon as we took photos! We had some days previous spent time at the world famous Pushkar Camel Fair that had a very different atmosphere to its little country cousin. The nomads at this country fair had travelled great distances through the desert with their camels and had an intrigueing way of secret bidding using gestures and hand signals done quite privately with the prospective buyer. As always, I am drawn to the character of the people whilst including some of the camel herders environment in todays feature image. See more
24.01.2022 Bhutan. August 2020. A unique Himalayan country that we have much to learn from. Travelling with Parallel 50 is very much about meeting the people and learning of their culture from them. How adorable are these two boys from the remoter Eastern region of Bhutan. Such a delight. Inquire now. [email protected]
24.01.2022 Today Parallel 50 will start a series of images to share from previous travels with a little bit of a story to go with them. I hope you enjoy taking part in our journeys. Come with us even for just a moment. Image 1. Bhutan Where better to start than our first trip to Bhutan, one of the most spiritual, natural places to travel. And of course I must start with an image with the dogs that sleep by day and rule by night! Parallel 50 has supported a street dog program in Bhutan and they are quite a feature at the dzongs as here. I see 8 of them lazing the day away here in Paro!
24.01.2022 Meeting the people that are the essence of the lands we travel are very much what Parallel 50 is about. Sending heaps of love and well wishes to all.

19.01.2022 Story Behind the Photo #9 We all have spent time in places that are very special to us. Whether it is because we are with special people, have a special chance encounter, have achieved a challenge to arrive there, whether it is in our backyard or far, far away, these may just be some of the reasons being in that place evokes all kinds of memories and emotions. Without doubt I have not met a single traveller with Parallel 50 that has not fallen in love with beautiful Bhutan. I... could talk for hours about this place but for now I am here to tell you this story for this photo. This was one of those delightful chance encounters I was talking about. We thought nooooo.....surely he is not going to jump to try to retrieve the robe! He was so little and he was so high above the uneven cobblestones! But the little monk showed no fear in front of his mates and with plenty of encouragement took this flying leap! I am not a big fan of using motor drive function where the camera simply keeps clicking and you hope for the best. The camera is deciding when to take the picture so I chanced pre-empting the peak of the action for this single photo capture. Happily it worked this time! So the full of life little monk landed safely, much to our relief, with robe triumphantly in hand! See more
18.01.2022 Such design work! Bhutan.
18.01.2022 Came across this amazing community in the back blocks of Fez, Morocco, that restore old building materials. They were so welcoming and proud of their craft and we loved exploring here for ages! Next Morocco tour, April 2020
16.01.2022 Talking about a love of mountains last night got me thinking that Parallel 50 should return to Ladakh in September 2020. Inquire now with your expression of interest. Kashmir and Amritsar would make fascinating add-ons too! [email protected]
16.01.2022 One more traveller can come with us to amazing Morocco! Best to get right on to it tho....we will be packing our bags soon! Travel a different road with Parallel 50 to get a little more from your travels.
15.01.2022 Thanks so much to Sale Camera Club for inviting me to do a presentation on my tours and travel photography! We spoke mostly about trying to capture the essence of life as it is. Well wearing slippers for my presentation was a first....gotta love Zoom!
15.01.2022 Fez is known for its tanneries. These are demanding places for man to work but it is life here. Saffron, poppies, henna, indigo and tumeric are just some of the products used for obtaining dyes for the leather. A sprig of mint helps mask the tannery odours. We learn more of this life, its conditions, its imposed outcomes and results of our actions. Awareness is a good starting point.
15.01.2022 Story Behind the Photo #7 We met this lovely man in his bakery in a side street whilst strolling in Srinagar, Kashmir. Many of the shops are tiny and he stood below the decking level in the shop making the dough in to round buns and sticking them to the sides of the clay pot ovens that were fired by coals in the bottom of the pot. We soon had a little audience of locals keen to meet us. It was an insight in to how the bread is baked in this traditional way and the light coming through the window was perfect for adding to the bakers strong features in this photograph. We bought some bread and it tasted as good as those lovely baked bread aromas. Even now when I smell bread baking I think of this day.
15.01.2022 Morocco for the Senses 2020! Bookings close soon. A land that will surprise. Come and share our journey. April 2020 [email protected] www.parallel50.com.au
15.01.2022 Story Behind the Photo #4 I am often asked which is my favourite country to visit. To me, I prefer to think of amazing travel to be in the experience, the moment you never forget. And this was one of them. A not often visited palace that was as breathtaking as many of the palaces in India are. But this one was different.... We found our way in the dark to this chamber a little puzzled to all the secrecy. Then our friend lit these candles and slowly waved them above his head. And there above us was a sight that left us without words from its pure beauty. Hundreds of shards of mirror on the ceiling reflected the candlelight giving the appearance of twinkling stars in a night sky as the candlelight swept back and forth flickering and blinking the stars of light like a thousand diamonds. I get a little carried away with these moments, my heart felt huge and am not ashamed to say felt a few tears slide down my face from the sheer happiness of experiencing this beauty. Besides it was dark so I am sure my clients were either busy wiping away their own tears or living so much in the moment they would not notice. One of those life experience travel moments that will stay with me for always. See more
14.01.2022 There is something about exploring rooftops that are a great part of travel experiences. Perhaps it is the feeling that you are the only one there? The chance to see afar? A secret view? Taking time to slow down and take it all in? A piece of authenticity? I simply love it.
13.01.2022 Travelling a different road never fails to bring you amazing travel experiences like meeting this nomadic family as they migrated to the mountain heights for summer. If you are looking to get a little more from your travels then come with us to Morocco. March/April 2020. [email protected]
13.01.2022 Our road certainly is a different one at the moment! Parallel 50 will be postponing our journeys until the world is breathing calmly again. Like the staircase in this photo I took in Iran, the climb is a little too steep for us at the moment. In the meantime we will be posting images with a story so you may still feel the stirrings of excitement and compassion that comes with travel. We hope you enjoy our journey over the next coming months through these images and thank you ...for support. Breathe, be calm, take time to be grateful and keep yourself healthy within and without. Thella frasek everyone! With much love and well wishes from Suse. Parallel 50. Travel A Different Road. See more

10.01.2022 Story Behind the Photo | #2 Another side to Parallel 50s travel journeys is our very own Blue Rust Projects (check out fb page) carrying out Rural Assistance Programs mostly in remote regions of Nepal. I have had the pleasure of meeting some amazing Aussies that have volunteered to share this wonderful life experience with me in what has been described as a life changing moment for them. We always take the time to visit these Tibetan women in Nepal who put their skills to gr...eat use at the Refugee Camp making wonderful textile products. Many of you will have seen the shawls I wear and also will have purchased some at our fund raising events. So let me introduce you to one of the ladies to thank for this! See more
10.01.2022 Looking forward to meeting this gentleman in the souks again on our next journey to Morocco in November. He enjoyed telling us about his family trade handed down to each generation. He shared some photos taken through the times of the same shop in the exciting full of life laneways of Fez.

08.01.2022 Want to get your mountain fix? Journey to pristine high altitude lakes, drink butter tea with nomadic yak herdsmen, be drawn to the sound of monks chanting in remote ancient monasteries, or you might like to thrill to the feel of riding a Royal Enfield under the vast Himalayan skies. If so, we need to talk! [email protected]
08.01.2022 Having been a judge on the National Circuit in Australia I know these photos don't make the grade as far as 'award winning images' go. But for me, it is the story that goes with these photos that would not always be known to viewers that makes them have a special place in my heart. That's worth more than any accolade I know. Hello dear workers from Tso Moriri, Ladakh...I am wishing you well.
07.01.2022 Story Behind the Photo #5 A most incredible, and very unique experience was when we had an opportunity to photograph behind the scenes at the community kitchen Guru-ka-Langar in Amristsar. It will always remain one of the best days I have ever had travelling exciting India. We visited the Sikh Temple and learnt about their belief system of equality for all humans. The kitchen is run by volunteers and is funded by donations with the emphasis on sharing as masses of people from... all walks of life take meals on their pilgrimage. In fact, make that about 50,000 to 100,000 meals a day! And they are free to all. Sharing a meal with a stranger is part of one of the main beliefs or philosophies in the Sikh faith, that being the principle of equality. So many chapatti! Huge cauldrons of masala chai!! And soooo many dishes!!! It was truly an extraordinary sight. And the people.....wow. Smiles, friendliness, welcomes and happiness abounded in the clockwork system of feeding so many. I took a little piece of that philosophy home with me in my heart and hope you can get a small sense from my images of these amazing people in this amazing place. See more
07.01.2022 Would you like to learn a little more about photography, your camera, and adding impact to your images? On our tours informal tuition goes hand in hand with travel. Parallel 50 can still offer private lessons with a professional photographer in the beautiful Far South of Tasmania...complete with cabin stay close to the ocean, rivers, forests and wilderness that makes this part of Tassie a great place to recharge. Let's chat if you are interested! I would love to share my passion for photography and travel with you in my backyard.
07.01.2022 A day in the life of this small village. If you want to experience life as it is, with the added touch of comfort, then inquire now for our India tours 2020. [email protected]
07.01.2022 Story Behind the Photo #6 Many of you will recognise this photo as the one I use on my business card and Parallel 50 The Story link on my website. It brings back a flood of emotions, sounds, visuals and memories of the people we meet on our travels. We met this little girl and her brother as we were street walking...oh and dozens of other children by the time we had lingered for a while! I often get the chance to meet up with the same people over the years and it is a joyous ...part of the day when we throw our arms around each other in excitement to be able to see each other again. For it is truly about the people that make our journeys so rich. Sending all my friends in far away places a safe journey in this life xxx See more
06.01.2022 The Story Behind the Photo #10 If you could only use one word to describe a country what word springs to mind? Its a tough one isnt it! The first word I think of when Iran is mentioned is STUNNING! To give you an idea, this amazing ceiling was in the equivalent of our shopping centres. Okay so they have a few years on us but some of the ancient caravansaries (travellers inns for traders and their camels) are used as souqs (bazaars) and we could lose ourselves in here for hours. One word of advice...sore necks are a surety!!!
05.01.2022 Encounters like this is what makes travel grow our hearts. Life in the villages of India.
05.01.2022 Something you may not know about Parallel 50 is that a percentage of profits from our journeys goes towards Rural Assistance Programs in Nepal. If you would like to know more about how to travel with a difference head across to our very own Blue Rust Projects fb page by clicking on this link. Parallel 50 sponsors a young Gippslander each project for what becomes a life changing experience. Our next Project will be in May 2020. And we are always looking for donations, fundra...ising and sponsorship! And of course keen travellers looking to get a little more from their journey! 100% of monies raised goes to helping rural communities with self sustainable agricultural practices, adult and youth education, medical and health programs. Enjoy the many photos of past projects and it shows what amazing Aussie spirit we have! https://m.facebook.com/bluerustprojects/
05.01.2022 The waterways provide a way of life that can be rewarding and challenging in this place often called Heaven on Earth. Kashmir.
04.01.2022 Looking back to Parallel 50s last trip to India. Varanasi is one of those places that really affects you. Loved taking in life around the amazing Ganges.
02.01.2022 A thousand stories that go with our photos.
02.01.2022 A colourful display of goods proudly arrayed. The souqs of Morocco are a shoppers delight!
02.01.2022 Summer in the Sahara. Gruelling you might say. I was just discussing with my client the amazing feats of the Dakar Rally that once passed this region when we came across a race of another kind. We were speechless.
02.01.2022 A prickly situation! Marjorelle Gardens, Marrakech, Morocco. A lesson in shape, texture and form for our photography capture.
01.01.2022 Story Behind the Photo #3 Persepolis, along with its mystery, was astounding. "The City of the Persians" remained hidden under dust and sand until the 1930s and as is with ancient ruins gets you imagining the grandness of this mainly granite and marble site that spread over 125 square kilometres. The earliest remains date back to 515 BC and was perhaps used mainly as a ceremonial complex complete with underground tunnelling and water storages systems. It is believed to have... been used for celebrations for the Persian New Year at the Spring Equinox. The reliefs show Iranian nobility bringing gifts to the king. Its ancient stone columns and staircases and the tombs carved in to the side of the mountain were fascinating, imposing and mesmerising all in one and a thousand images went through my mind trying to picture the bustle of what city life would have been then.
