Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is caused by a highly contagious virus spread primarily through coughing and sneezing. Symptoms of influenza usually occur one to three days after infection and may include sudden onset of fever, chills, cough, sore throat, headache, muscle aches and severe tiredness.... The disease is spread from one person to another like a cold and although it is treatable with antibiotics, the infection can progress very rapidly. Anyone who experiences symptoms of the disease including headache, fever or rash, should seek urgent medical attention. A combined meningococcal vaccine that protects ...against serogroups A, C, W and Y is now offered for FREE to persons aged 12 months to <5 years and 15 to 19 years. The disease, an acute viral illness, is highly contagious and can survive in the air for up to 2 hours. Symptoms typically include fever, cough and conjunctivitis followed by a rash. Often a severe disease, complications are more common and severe in ...the chronically ill, children under 5 and in adults. Anyone travelling overseas is urged to ensure they are fully vaccinated regardless of destination. The most likely group of travelers to transmit the illness are those born in Australia between 1966 and 1984.
