If you identify as a woman or gender diverse, chances are at some point in your life you or someone you know will be harassed or assaulted on public transport or during a transport journey. She’s A Crowd uses your stories to make our cities safer for women, girls and non-binary people and you can help. 12.01.2022 The 2020 National NAIDOC Poster, Shape of Land, was designed by Tyrown Waigana, a Noongar and Saibai Islander man. Tyrown’s artwork tells the story of how the Rainbow Serpent came out of the Dreamtime to create this land. It is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia, which symbolises how it created our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display our connection to the Rainbow Serpent, thus our connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country - since the dawn of time - Always Was, Always Will Be Aboriginal Land. #NAIDOC2020 #NAIDOCWeek #NAIDOC

11.01.2022 The Public Record Office Victoria recently shared this photo from the archives. A Travellers Aid member assisting a young girl. A reflection of where Travellers Aid began - providing support for women and their children who were travelling into the city of Melbourne to assist with the war effort.

08.01.2022 Early this morning Travellers Aid staff, volunteers and supporters stood with victim-survivors and walked in orange to help send a message across Victoria that family and domestic violence is NEVER okay. It's not too late to show your support, register online and then make your plan for the day: walk or wheelchair around the block, go for a walk with a friend, or find a group and participate in a planned local event in your area - you choose. By wearing something orange a f...acemask, hat or t-shirt and joining others using #WAFV2020 on social media, you can show your support #WAFV2020 #travellersaid

07.01.2022 Refugee Week 20th - 26th June Today marks the beginning of Refugee Week 2021. A global celebration of the ways in which our refugee communities enrich our communities and culture. "Refugees are people who are forced to flee their country and cannot return unless the situation that forced them to leave improves. Some are forced to flee without any warning and many have experienced torture and trauma. The motivating factor for these people is safety and protection from persecut...ion and human rights abuses, not economic advantage." - Refugeeweek.org.au Finding yourself in a new country can be overwhelming to say the least, when you are in need of medical attention even more so. Karen from Travellers Aid recently took on a companion service job for a man who had a medical appointment in Melbourne. A refugee, not speaking english, his appointment ended up being hours long and the relief on his face when he saw Karen still waiting for him was huge. We received a call the following day from his case worker to express his thanks at the kindness shown to him. All it takes to make a difference is putting yourself, as best you can, into someone elses shoes, to treat everyone with respect and kindeness.
