25.01.2022 Virgin Australia will discontinue the Tigerair Australia brand under its new ownership of Bain Capital. Virgin Australia has just released details of its plans as it comes out of voluntary administration under the ownership of Bain Capital. The carrier will discontinue the Tigerair Australia brand, but maintain the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and necessary support to provide the option for ultra-low-cost operations when the market recovers.... Virgin Australia will focus on its core domestic and short-haul international business, under a strategy for a "stronger, more profitable and competitive Virgin Australia," the carrier said. This involves a cost reset to meet lower demand, including a reduction in cost base, with about 3,000 jobs to be lost and around 6,000 maintained when the market recovers. The carrier will move to an all Boeing 737 mainline fleet and maintain the regional and charter fleet, but remove ATR, Boeing 777, Airbus A330 and Tigerair Airbus A320 aircraft types. Long-haul international flying will remain suspended until the global travel market recovers. CEO Paul Scurrah said demand for domestic and short-haul international travel will likely take three years to return to pre-COVID-19 levels, "with the real chance it could be longer".

It's more of a metaphorical day though in Mt Compass as the sky is dark grey and i'm at my desk trying to retrieve funds for people and looking ahead at more months of cancellations and disappointment for people. With no revenue generation for the past 12 months, and a further 12 months... likely until income can be generated, no one has been spared. Tour operators, airlines, travel agents, hoteliers, cruise lines, DMC’s, etc are ALL impacted - some have already made 60-70% of their team redundant or closed their doors. Without further sector specific support the $10bn per year industry is on the edge of collapse come March 30th. #savethetravelindustry

04.01.2022 Singapore Opens Borders to Australia On Wednesday 30 September 2020, it was announced that following on from the success of lifting border restrictions from New Zealand, as of 8 October 2020, Singapore lifted it’s border restrictions for visitors from Australia (excluding Victoria). The new guidelines mean that short-term visitors travelling from Australia (excluding Victoria) can apply for an Air Travel Pass (ATP) for entry into Singapore providing that visitors have remain...ed in Australia for the past 14 days prior to their entry and that they agree to undergo a COVID-19 test upon arrival at Singapore Changi Airport at their own expense. Visitors will be required to isolate at their declared place of accommodation until their test results are confirmed to be negative. After being notified of their negative test results, visitors will be allowed to go about their activities in Singapore without any quarantine.
