15.01.2022 Active on Adventure Having just landed after a nice 25 odd hours travelling from Perth to hot and sunny Belgrade, Serbia one of the first things I try to do to get over the long haul flight of dehydration is to get some fresh air and exercise. Trying to keep your fluids up mid air (and ideally not with Champagne) is an ideal way to arrive feeling less worse for wear. Avoiding alcohol and too much tea and coffee and keeping on top of your water intake will help ...to keep you hydrated and feel more human upon landing. We all know sleeping on a plane can be as realistic as avoiding cake at a birthday party but any shut eye will do you the world of good. If you can arrive and persevere with the new time zone and either go to bed or push on this will help your body to adjust to the new time zone better. Going to bed early when the local sun goes down and getting a good solid nights sleep will recharge you for the adventure ahead. Upon waking try (I said try) to avoid too much of a heavy buffet breakfast and keep it nice and light and preferably healthy and take advantage of some fresh air and exercise by going for a walk in your new destination as soon as possible will do wonders for your mind and body as recovering from a long flight can feel more like a hang over than any first class experience. Other tips for a more health conscious transit is to avoid as much plane food as possible which will often be less than uber fresh, take your own selection of healthy snacks with you. If you have a transit stop make use of your legs and ability to get up and about by skipping the travelators and escalators in favour of waking and stairs, this will help boost your circulation, get the good blood flowing and keep your body moving. Avoid tempting but often unhealthy airport meals for more healthy fresh options and juices to help replenish any lost vitamins. A nice facial spray (no more than 100mls remember) in your carry on and a toothbrush will make you feel more human and public ready to use mid flight and during transit will help you keep moisturised and fresh. Having a good stretch when you check into your accommodation will help relieve any knots and strains from being couped up for hours. Happy Travelling ~ life is an adventure! Fit-Trips See more
