22.01.2022 I got chatting to a few mates about my field last week and I explained to them that I find it ironic that we go to the dentist for regular check-ups as a way to maintain dental health (and therefore prevent potentially costly and painful interventions in the future), and go to the mechanic to service our cars (to prevent your car breaking down in some manner), yet there is no recognisable service to check up on your musculo-sketeal health. Whether you're an athlete, desk jockey or weekend warrior, it might be wise to check out your movement quality every 4-6 months to ensure you're staying healthy. I explain this in some good detail here on my blog. Check it out and let me know what you think: http://www.travenglishtrainingsystems.com/the-body-mechanic/

15.01.2022 Plant the seed. If I told you to do 50 bodyweight squats a day, would you do it? Maybe.. Maybe not.... If I told you to do 10 bodyweight squats after every time you go to the bathroom (as a trigger), do you think that would be more achievable? More than likely... You'd end up with around 50+ squats and 250+ squats in a week. (given you did it for 5 days) Now I'm not saying this is something you necessarily would need to do all the time, but this illustrates a point: Working on small habits will help you work towards positive behavioural change and get you closer to your outcome goal. You can't control the outcome, but you can control the process.

10.01.2022 I reckon 'workouts' should be abandoned from the personal training vocabulary. I've heard it a lot in the past - "I'm just writing up a workout for a client today" I'd like to think that as personal trainers we all have a 'plan of attack' in order to get the client from A (where they are now) to B (where they want to be). A workout to me indicates randomness, and random workouts create random results. Assessing client goals and needs and setting expectations regularly will... give a client direction, which will create positive behavioural change and get them closer to their goals. This is my goal as a trainer anyway... but I suppose everyone has different thought processes :P
