22.01.2022 Matuku Matata it means no worries! Ok that was lame.. Nick Matuku and I have been working together on his hair for a while now, starting with a creation way back in May (?). From the start he was adamant about a more natural look without visible parting or ‘grid’ lines, so we went for a very haphazard style that has tightened into his current look. ... I started with a kind of fibonacci spiral, parting inwards to the back of his scalp, changing up the shape here and there to keep it natural. As we revisit with regular maintenance the parting virtually disappears. The importance of maintenance with this style is even more pronounced, as without defined grids we have to use a bit of intuition to essentially ‘train’ the hair to grow into the dread while keeping it comfortable and pain free on the scalp. Any distress will basically undo all the hard work we’ve put in so far! While they’re still a little fuzzy they are maturing super nicely and he’s already getting a heap of compliments so I reckon he’ll tell you he made the right choice!

22.01.2022 In and out in time for their BBQ! Gary’s a barber himself, so while I cleaned up the roots and gave his hair a bit of a touch up we spent a fair bit of time talking shop, as well as a shared love of chillies and cooking! He didn’t want to lose any length and his tips were already nice and tight, so as much as I love a big project it’s still nice to have something straight forward every now and then you could call it a palate cleanser before the next meal!... Another one of the Wagga crew who were looking for reliable hair care after the local loctitian left the industry. Considering we were done and dusted before dinner, I think they’ve found it!

18.01.2022 Reforming dreads and general maintenance is where I began Kyle had a ton of freeform dreads (it must have been 80 or 90 but I lost count ) that hadn’t been regularly maintained and were kind of doing their own thing. Sometimes it requires more patience and time to resection and tidy up freeform dreads, but Kyle’s hair took a little less manoeuvring than expected.. phew! ... A few hours later and they were already looking more defined that’s how easy it can be! Thanks Kyle, hope to see you again soon

17.01.2022 Anyone need some help around Griffith mid April ??Anyone need some help around Griffith mid April ??

14.01.2022 The healing power of hair! I've always been a big believer in the intricate and interconnected relationships between the human mind, body, spirit and yes, the hair. If any part of the system is weakened then the others will attempt to restore balance, often to their own detriment. As soon as I met Jackie we connected - and it wasn't just because of the massive platter of cheeses, meats, biscuits and dips she had laid out for us! Her son is also a seasoned traveller with in...terests in natural medicine, and she offered me an entire granny flat to operate from for the next few days as I serviced other clients in the area, so a HUGE thank you to Jackie for that! After dinner we chatted about all things to do with medicine and healing and eventually uncovered the root of her ongoing issues. Hemochromatosis is when the body absorbs more iron than it uses, and can lead to a wide range of debilitating symptoms such as chronic pain and fatigue, diabetes, liver and heart failure and early mortality if untreated. Jackie was receiving blood transfusions to remove the excess iron but they had become increasingly regular as her headaches worsened. I don't want to say I'm a miracle worker (yet!) but after some reparting, tidying and reshaping to relieve tension on her scalp, her headaches stopped nearly instantly! We'll wait until next visit to hit the bigger problem areas and re-dread some of the hair, but we're hoping she won't be needing any blood transfusions until then! Many people assume a bit of pain and strain is normal for dreadlocks, but if your dreads are causing soreness or fatigue don't just ignore it. It could be a sign of underlying issues, and perhaps a bit of maintenance and realignment could have you feeling like yourself again!
