23.01.2022 Did you know that flamingos feathers are pink because of the carotenoids in their diet? Flamingo babies are actually born with grey feathers and it cane take up to three years before they get their pink pigment! Much like how eating carrots can enhance and prolong your tan! Love, G xx

22.01.2022 5 WAYS TO REDUCE STRESS First, look at this hedgehog. Second, look at it some more.. ... In all seriousness though, stress, anxiety and depression have been hitting a lot of us pretty hard during the coronavirus outbreak, so I thought I’d share some easy ways to de stress 1. LOOK AT THE HEDGEHOG But really, animals are a great way to de stress . If you have a pet, take it for a walk or spend some time with it. It will make you smile. I’d you don’t, like me, I actually have an album on my phone of stupid/cute animal photos that put a smile on my face no matter what 2. Take some time to breath. Literally taking 1 minute to do nothing but concentrate on your breathing and be mindful can have a huge impact on your stress levels 3. Exercise I know this one seems obvious, but if you’re a procrastinator like me, you probably don’t get quite enough exercise in. But even something small, like walking to the shops instead of driving, or doing a few squats while you’re brushing your teeth is better than nothing. I make an effort to wake up 5 minutes earlier just do do a few squats and sit ups. 4. Get lost in a good book As I have mentioned in a previous post, getting lost in a good book can reduce stress levels by up to 68% Plus, it makes you smarter 5. Don’t be too hard on yourself This one hits home with me. I have high expectations of myself and can sometimes be too hard on myself for not being as productive as I’d planned. But at the end of the day, you’re not going to be productive if you’re unhappy or stressed, and it’s important to enjoy your life. It’s the only one you’ve got! Love, G xx

21.01.2022 What do you choose?

21.01.2022 HEALTHY BURGERS ANYONE? Eating healthy doesn’t mean you don’t have to enjoy yourself. The trick is just to swap out the unhealthy ingredients for healthier options! I made burgers two nights ago and they are so quick, easy and comforting, especially when the ingredients love you back. ... EASY SWAP OUTS White or whole wheat bun < paleo/lectin free bun or lettuce wrap Conventionally raised meat < 100% grass fed/pasture raised meat (Or a whole portobello mushroom for vegans) Iceberg lettuce < cos/romaine lettuce or red cabbage slaw Tomato < avocado White potato fries < sweet potato or okra fries Conventional cheese < grass fed A2 cheese or nutritional yeast if you’re dairy intolerant like me Other winning additions: Mushrooms Onion Horseradish Roasted red pepper (skins removed) Pasture raised bacon Pasture raised eggs Herbs Love, G xx

16.01.2022 5 THINGS YOU PROBABLY DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT BRUSSEL SPROUTS We all knew the stereotype growing up that Brussel sprouts are gross.. it was only actually a few years ago that I discovered I loved them! Brussel sprouts are closely related to cabbage, (That’s why they look like mini cabbages) and are super good for you, which is pretty easy to figure out.. ... but I promised to tell you things that you probably didn’t know didn’t I? 1. They are actually named after the capital of Belgium (Brussels) because they were a popular 16th century crop 2. Purple sprouts (yes they’re a thing) are a result of a hybrid developed from purple cabbage in the 1940’s. And they’re super good for you! Containing those awesome little anthocyanins I’ve talked about before. 3. One 80 gram serving has 4 times more vitamin C than an orange. Minus the sugar 4. Recent reports hint at upcoming scientific evidence that they give a big boost to your libidos 5. Bernard Lavery from the UK once cultivated a sprout that weighed more than 18 pounds!! Love, G xx

12.01.2022 Why blackberries over other berries? Blackberries are not only one of the lowest sugar and calorie containing berries, but they are one of the highest antioxidant packed fruits that there are, and are loaded with those amazing anthocyanins that I’ve talked about in previous posts. Purple in colour, anthocyanins not only act as antioxidants and fight free radicals, but they may offer anti inflammatory, anti viral, and anti cancer benefits! ... In a study published in 2010, experiments showed that anthocyanins extracted from blueberries helped inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells. Additional blackberry perks: - aid in the production of collagen (HELLO GLOWY SKIN!) - can help relax muscles which can help menstruation - have been shown to improve eyesight and protect against macular degeneration - the leaves can be used to make a super nutritious tea Happy Sunday! 11.01.2022 WHEN YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE COOKING Dinner two nights ago - red cabbage - carrot... - leftover cauliflower rice - small amount of baby spinach - leftover avo smash - pasture raised pork sausages cooked with garlic and a touch of coconut aminos Dressed with organic extra virgin olive oil, lime juice, a touch of coconut aminos, and S&P And voila! Easy dinner made with pretty much all I had left in the fridge (because I didn’t feel like a big grocery shop either ) Love, G xx

04.01.2022 WHY YOU SHOULD BE EATING MUSHROOMS Fun fact! If you put mushrooms in the sun, they actually absorb more vitamin D. Like our own skin does. While not many foods are a substantial source of vitamin D, mushrooms are one of the highest.... Mushrooms are one of the most powerful medicinal foods on earth and are the definition of nutrient dense, as they contain such low calories next to an incredible array of nutrients. You may have heard of beta glucan, which is found in mushrooms, and other foods like oats. It’s made a name for itself because it’s been shown to be essential for a healthy immune system and have anti cancer properties! What you probably wouldn’t have heard is that there are actually different kinds of beta glucan, and that the source from foods like oats is hardly beneficial. The best part is, you don’t even need to be buying those fancy medicinal mushroom supplements! While they have many benefits, shiitake mushrooms are also incredibly nutrient dense and are one of the best mushrooms to consume. Even button mushrooms are awesome! Mushrooms are versatile and can be prepared in so many different ways, meaning even people who don’t like mushrooms can usually find a way to prepare them so that they like them. And when they have been shown to boost your immune system, boost brain health and function, strengthen your bones, aid heart health and have anti cancer properties, why wouldn’t you?? Love, G xx

02.01.2022 Did you know that artichokes are one of the top vegetables for antioxidant content? I sure didn’t when I was younger. Occasionally my mum would pick up artichokes when we she went to the markets and after she boiled them, we would peel back the leaves one by one and eat the flesh dipped in a balsamic vinaigrette. Even my younger sister who was an incredibly fussy eater enjoyed the task and the reward! They’re high in B vitamins including folate(27% RDI in a 120g serving!) v...itamin C, vitamin K, and choline. Mineral content includes copper, magnesium, manganese, potassium, phosphorus, iron, and zinc. But I have to say, what takes the cake is definitely the fibre content! Artichokes are so good at feeding your gut buddies that they are found in tonnes of prebiotic supplements and have been often considered as one of the top prebiotic foods. They have even been found to prevent gallstones! Did anyone else’s mum make artichokes when they were younger? (Granted my mum grew up in Lebanon and cypress ) Love, G&T xx

01.01.2022 Do or do not. There is no try. - Yoda Little inspo from a little Yoda pug on your Monday morning Love, G xx

01.01.2022 Morning! How does everybody have their coffee? As a barista of almost 6 years, I love my coffee black in all its forms, especially filter coffee. Although I do love a good espresso or long black too... Coffee boasts lots of polyphenols, and next to no calories which means it compliments intermittent fasting(and in my case, makes it much easier ) Love, G xx
