16.01.2022 **LONG but VERY IMPORTANT post ahead, so please take some time to read ** The IT'S NOT OK Projects were founded by @leighramsey to restore, educate, equip, and provide hope to the oppressed, the trafficked, the vulnerable, the impoverished, and the at-risk. One of its main projects is the SHE (Shaping Her Earth) Rescue Home in Cambodia, encompassing the Transition Home, Sewing Centre, the HER (Home Employment Response) Initiative and Community Based Care. These projects are... designed to be a safe haven for survivors and at-risk girls, to house, protect, and reintegrate them, and to give them and their family members safe access to the help, education, and employment they need to become self-sustaining. The last few months, I’ve felt a calling on my heart to help and advocate for IT’S NOT OK Projects . Their work has never been an easy battle, but with the Covid crisis and its effects still at large, these girls and their families are now at risk of further exploitation. So I’ve decided to do another cupcake box event, where a portion of the sales will be donated to the SHE Rescue Home and projects. Cupcake boxes will be available in 6 or 12 packs, and to be pre-ordered for Saturday 22nd August (pick up & local delivery options available). 15.01.2022 When you ask R U OK?, how do you do it? Do you really mean it and are you prepared to listen and look for signs that they’re not actually ok even if they say they are? And if so, do you let them know you mean it and that you really are there for them? As someone with a history of mental health problems, I can almost guarantee that when someone asks us how we are, most of us would just give the standard I’m good, thanks! or something along those lines. Because in our minds..., we’re thinking: they’re just being polite; that’s the standard greeting; nobody actually wants to hear what’s happening or how I’m doing. And even if we decide to start sharing, it’s in the back of our minds that we’re just droning on and nobody really wants to hear all this, that maybe we should’ve just kept our mouths shut, that we’ve now gone and make things awkward. So we stop sharing, we downplay things, we laugh and brush it off like it doesn’t actually matter and that’s just life! BUT. If you make us feel safe and comfortable, make us feel like you really care and that you have time for us, and most importantly, that you really want to LISTEN to everything we have to say? Then we might start opening up and start being honest about how we really feel! We’re not asking you to fix our problems, we just want a safe place to be raw and real. So can I just encourage you today (and every day!), when you ask someone R U OK?, try and let them know that you really mean it! And even if they’re not ready to share straight away, show them consistently that you are there for them and that you will be there to listen when they are ready! 03.01.2022 I don’t do big spiels often but as you do on NYE, I’ve been reflecting on this past year so here goes! It’s been one heck of a year, but I’m so glad I had my faith to get me through. It definitely hasn’t been easy, and just because I have faith, it doesn’t mean that I didn’t have my fair share of grieving, disappointments, missed opportunities, and moments of hopelessness. But as I reflect on 2020, I can see that God’s goodness still shone through. I started Treats by Lynn i...n faith based on a word from Him; a month later, the Covid crisis struck home and events were cancelled, meaning orders and opportunities to grow my new business were cancelled along with it. And yet, I still managed to keep my business going, make some new contacts, get out of my cake comfort zone and gain some new skills, bake a ton of cupcakes, and best of all, fundraise and give back to God and the community through IT'S NOT OK Projects and Community Care Brisbane I don’t think 2021 is going to be easy by any means, but I’m looking forward to it and whatever challenges it may bring. After all, if God is for us, then who can be against us?
