22.01.2022 Wait until children are calm to talk about what’s happened and suggest what strategies they could use next time. Remember to name their emotions - I can see you are angry, or I can see you are sad and let them know they are safe I’ve got you or You’re safe, I’m here for you When any of us (adults or children) are out of our emotional control, we can’t listen or think clearly and are less able to reason.... This post below is helpful!

20.01.2022 I use items from nature in my classes for so many reasons. Nature can encourage us to be mindful - to notice what we can see, smell, touch and hear. Nature can also remind us about care and growth. It inspires us to reflect on our progress and remember that growth takes time and patience. Yoga practice is just that - a practice. ... It has been wonderful observing the children and families progress over time in my classes. I see my students persisting, picking themselves up when they fall and also challenging themselves to grow further by holding a pose a little longer or trying a new pose. I’ve seen children come to enjoy the practice of mediation and stillness and enjoy the flow of moving with their breath. I love that I have students who are excited to come back to yoga week after week. It was a beautiful weekend of classes Spots still available for Term 2, email [email protected] for more information.

17.01.2022 Looking forward to providing a free Kids Yoga class at this event on Sunday as part of their fundraising efforts!

10.01.2022 Last week, our Family and Primary classes were based on a theme of words. We talked about how powerful words can be, how they can affect us and other people around us. At the beginning of each class, I read out a number of words and asked everyone to notice what came up in their mind and body when they heard that word.... Sometimes when we hear a word, it may trigger a memory of a place, time or person or may trigger a feeling in our body. I read out typically negative words like: - worthless - failure - hate - exhausted - overwhelmed And asked everyone to notice how these words felt. I then read out typically positive words like: - glowing - energised - calm - love - enthusiasm - inspired We talked about how sometimes when we change our negative thoughts to more positive/encouraging/forgiving thoughts, we can feel more calm and secure in ourselves. We also talked about how negative words and thoughts can hurt people - especially when we are angry or sad with someone. What would it feel like to wait a moment before we spoke? To take a pause and reflect on how our words might affect the person in front of us? At the end of our class, the students wrote a list of words to describe themselves (or their partner in Family Yoga) and wrote a sentence using positive affirmations. This was a lovely experience and it was wonderful to see everyone putting so much thought into this activity!

07.01.2022 If you haven’t seen this already...

03.01.2022 What a beautiful Primary Yoga class this afternoon This class demonstrated that yoga is more than just asana practice (the physical poses). We began by openly talking about our emotions and sharing stories of how we have felt in the past week. We reflected on a rainbow of feelings from the Feelings Hotel set.... We then used a large frangipani leaf for breathing. The children and I traced around our leaves to match our breathing - inhaled as we went up, and exhaled as we went down. The children then gently examined their leaves and we talked about how stopping and looking carefully at something is being mindful. They talked about the texture and the lines of the leaf After some asana flows testing our balance and strength, we played a game of yoga hopscotch and then finished our class with some mindful painting. I gently drew on the children’s backs while they copied what they could feel onto their paper. They loved this calming painting experience
