17.01.2022 Wow did we learn a lot at this mornings Citizen Science BioCAT training event at Radjirr-radjirr by Terrain NRM ‘s Ruginia Duffy!!! Trialling this simplified BioCondition survey we learned how to do a 10 x 50 survey of our 2015 Deep Tree Planting site, how to use iPads, tree height and canopy cover estimations, and native and weed species identification. A big bonus was having our project’s Scientific Advisor, Stuart Worboys from the Australian Tropical Herbarium, identify sp...ecies and also to ensure BioCAT methods will provide us with the information we are looking for. If you would like to RSVP for our next BioCAT training session on Nov 22 send an email to [email protected] or pm me with your email address. This project received grant funding from the Australian Government’s Community Environment Program and the Qld Department of Environment and Science’s Citizen Science Grant See more

01.01.2022 Beautiful productive morning at one of our new sites in Redlynch Valley Estate on Huntley Crescent. Only a tiny bit of rain with 5 of us - Daniel, Sally, John, Rhys - working 1.6m apart in the rainforest right near Freshie Creek clearing weedy Guinea Grass by hand manually to liberate young native wildlings and make room for some planted native trees. This is part of our 2019 20 #cairnsregionalcouncil RPA project and our #citizenscienceproject which has thankfully been extend...ed due to Covid-19 until June 2021. We found large, rogue Old Guava trees, a lovely weevil, and a not so lovely, Stinging Tree...enjoy the before and after photos and a few locals have told us they need some shade trees in the bare dog park #fulfillingproductivemorningrestoringourlocalenvironment with the rest of this sunny day to enjoy Landcare Australia #revegetation #freshwatercreek #redlynch #wettropics #citizenscience #fnq See more
