25.01.2022 Are gluten-free foods a healthier option? With gluten-free options growing in popularity, the number of people following a gluten-free diet on their own accord has increased. People mainly follow a gluten-free diet when they are clinically diagnosed with a gluten allergy (coeliac disease) or if they experience discomfort when eating gluten-containing products.... For those who can tolerate gluten, there is little scientific evidence suggesting any particular health benefits of a gluten-free diet. Commercially produced gluten-free products are commonly lower in fibre and often higher in refined sugars, salt and fat. The bottomline: If you have been diagnosed with coeliac disease or a gluten intolerance then gluten-free products are for you! Otherwise, there is no real benefits if you can tolerate gluten. To see if you might be gluten intolerant or are a diagnosed coeliac looking for dietary support, book an appointment to see one of our dietitians: https://treeoflifenutrition.com.au/book-an-appointment/
