20.01.2022 LEAVE WATER OUT FOR WILDLIFE Temperatures are soaring in the Toowoomba Region and South-East Queensland at the moment- and with no break in the drough...t and little water sources around, animals of all types are searching for water. You can help by leaving out bowls, tubs and containers of water near bases of trees or in your garden and making sure domestic pets are kept away from water stations so they don’t deter wildlife from using them. Remember to add a branch or rocks to deep bowls to avoid wildlife drowning and allow easy access for lizards and small birds. Everyone can help and make a difference in any location that you live. Remember to top up the water regularly . See more

17.01.2022 "...females usually set the agenda and males do whatever is necessary to gain access to them." Let me explain: So, I'm reading a doctoral thesis by Karen Coomb...es on Tree Kangaroos because they are amazing and I need to learn everything I can about them (and you should too). I'm not very far into it yet, but this is my favourite line thus far. I'm not a hardcore feminist or anything, but I do like this line. Girls make the rules, boys have to adapt or miss out. #girlpower #girlsruleboysdrool Also, handsome boys Beau and Duncan for your viewing pleasure.

14.01.2022 Looking for a great nature DIY project for the school holidays? Making a possum drey for your backyard is a fantastic way to help local wildlife! Some possums w...ill build a nest called a 'drey'. In the wild, dreys are built by possums with sticks and branches woven together into a ball with leaf material inside. You can build an artificial 'drey' at home to create a nesting place in your backyard for Ringtail possums. Always remember to add a second opening for exit from predators. Please source biodegradable cable ties or other fastenings in preference to single use plastics. Watch our quick video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AAfzvOvAmM

04.01.2022 MEET MISTY the LUMHOLTZ’S TREE KANGAROO We are excited to share with you a series of stories of some of the beautiful Tree Kangaroos in care with friend...s Karen & Neil at Tree Roo Rescue and Conservation Centre Ltd. We had the pleasure of meeting the animals this week at the private sanctuary and learning all about their plight and the immense challenges these native animals, and their volunteer carers face. Misty was saved by a young boy who noticed a dead Tree Kangaroo on the road and begged his mother to pull over so he could check the pouch. He found little Misty who was only 500grams in weight and of velvet fur (just starting to get fur from being a pinky). It was a cold and misty morning when she was saved and that is where her name came from. Misty has been lovingly raised by Karen and Neil from that day and she is now a beautiful big girl and almost ready to begin her journey back to being a wild tree kangaroo. Lumholtz’s Tree Kangaroos are only found in Far North Qld. They are most common in rainforest fragments of the Atherton Tablelands. They are listed as Near Threatened and their numbers are diminishing fast due to road trauma, dog attack, habitat loss and central blindness triggered by climate change. Karen and Neil have been dedicated to their rescue, rehabilitation, research and public education for a very long time. You can find out more, or support their volunteer work by visiting their website, their online store or making a donation. All donations go direct to the rescue and rehabilitation of these incredible animals. Www.treeroorescue.org.au

04.01.2022 Happy #worldanimalday! I’m celebrating by posting a picture of a cute Lumholtz’s tree kangaroo. There are a total of 14 species of tree-kangaroos inhabiting the... tropical rain-forests of Papua New Guinea, West Papua, Australia and some islands in the region. The Lumholtz’s tree-kangaroo is the smaller of the two Australian species and can be found in the rainforest of tropical north Queensland, centred on the Atherton Tablelands. They have adapted to a life in the trees and live exclusively on leaves and fruits of rainforest trees. See more

03.01.2022 Meet Leo We rescued a young blind male tree kangaroo a month ago from Malanda High School He was lost and in the art class room ... The staff rang us but thought it best to chase him outside We did still manage to catch him thankfully Would have been very easy to catch if in room So if you do happen to find a lost tree kangaroo in a strange place please keep an eye on him or her and call us It’s NOT NORMAL for them to come inside or hang around houses or buildings They are happier in rainforest up a tree Anyway he is out in an enclosure now too and with much debate we named him Leo (DeVinci) as he was in the art class room lol or Decaprio lol
