21.01.2022 Rockvale Road - Armidale

19.01.2022 "Arborist Matt Collom said dead or dying eucalypts that would otherwise be cut down were now being preserved. Now the dangerous limbs are lopped off and the hol...lows are cut into the tree using a chainsaw." "We are finding up to around 85 per cent, 90 per cent uptake by native wildlife, which has just exceeded our expectations," project management officer Marty Harris said.

19.01.2022 Come to a community meeting on Wed 26th June at 6pm at the Worship Centre Uniting Church Hyde St Bellingen at 6pm to talk about proposed logging of the "Headwa...ters of the Kalang River and "Scotchmans". These compartments are not "Plantations" they are "Native Forest" Where are the Cultural Assessments that were promised in 2017 and have the Land Councils been properly consulted. The Community need to know that all of the protocols regarding Cultural Assessments have been carried out respectfully. Where are the Economic Assessments also promised in the Letter to Neighbours 2017? The logging at Roses Creek and Kelrose is uneconomic being about as far as you could get from sawmills and only harvesting small logs on 20 % of the forest . There must be an opportunity for Independent commentary on the Fauna and Flora studies which seem largely incomplete when compared with local evidence collected over the past two years. We know that we have reached an extinction crisis which includes our Koalas. The proposed areas for logging have been highlighted as vital areas of the "Great Koala Park" containing many Threatened and Vulnerable Species and vital to healthy biodiversity. It is not acceptable that we will be cutting down the largest trees at Roses Creek and these are the trees that provide seedbanks to make rain. The fact that our rainfall has decreased in the past few years also make this Logging operation completely unacceptable. A meeting of the kalang and Bellingen Community in 2017 resolved unanimously that the Kalang Headwaters be added to the Headwaters of the Baalijin Nature Reserve thereby protecting the Kalang and the Bellingen River and the Bellinger Esturary for future generations Together we can "Save the Headwaters" and our "Koalas" See you at the meeting on Wed 26th Please share widely 0409996423 for any info...spread the word. 12.01.2022 Armidale - Elands - Wauchope - Kempsey - Bellbrook -Armidale. Big day.

12.01.2022 Sarah Caldwell, from Mole River Native Nursery, shows us how to propagate Australian Native Plants from seeds, cuttings and grafting. Feel free to give this vid...eo a share, and happy growing everyone! This project is jointly funded through Northern Tablelands Local Land Services and the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.

12.01.2022 Its always satisfying to participate in environmental projects to assist our wildlife. Warrumbungle Council has teamed up with Local Land Service to host a Bark...ing Owl habitat augmentation project, with a couple of TSRs selected. The idea is to increase hollows at the sites to benefit the prey of the Barking Owl. Surveys last year have shown Owls are present in the area. Big hats off to NorthWest Complete Tree Services who have done incredibly good job with low impact hollow placement. Hollows were only placed in dead trees or dead limbs where existing hollows were absent. Three sizes were made to facilitate different prey of the owl, ringtail possums, gliders and small bats and feathertail gliders. Nest sites will be checked with an endoscope after a year. 06.01.2022 It's been quite hot up here in New England High Country today. Yes, believe it or not, Armidale isn't always cold! So on days like this, places like Point Look...out in New England National Park help keep us cool. One of our fave enviroscience labs :-) Have a great weekend and happy exploring. #uneenvironment #uneevirosciencelabs See more

04.01.2022 Thank you, trees! And thanks to InsideClimate News for creating such a great infographic.

03.01.2022 These two have played a big part in lighting the fire that has kept me immersed in all things Landcare these past 16 years ... thank you Robert Dulhunty & Sonia... Williams for your years of dedication to local & regional landcare and for pushing the agenda these past years at the state & federal levels. You’ll be greatly missed. X Sara See more

03.01.2022 The number of native birds in an area declines by half with the loss of every 5 mature eucalypts. So how can we keep old trees in cities?

03.01.2022 Crown shyness is a naturally occurring phenomenon in some tree species where the uppermost branches in a forest canopy avoid touching one another. The visual ef...fect is striking as it creates clearly defined borders akin to cracks or rivers in the sky when viewed from below. Although the phenomenon was first observed in the 1920s, scientists have yet to reach a consensus on what causes it. According to Wikipedia, it might simply be caused by the trees rubbing against one another, although signs also point to more active causes such as a preventative measure against shading (optimizing light exposure for photosynthesis) or even as a deterrent for the spread of harmful insects. 02.01.2022 Yesterday I visited the sacred Djapwurrung birthing trees that are due to be cut down by VicRoads any day now. This tree is over 800 years old and has birthed m...ore than 10,000 Djapwurrung babies. This destruction is planned without the consent of the Djapwurrung people. I felt really moved by these trees, they are powerful and you can feel it standing there with them. The thought of them being destroyed, of a chainsaw taking them down, moves me to tears. Please help to stop this from happening. All welcome to join the camp (near Ararat Victoria). Or get on the phone and call Daniel Andrews on 03 9651 5000 or Nigel Powers, Vicroads Northwest Project Manager on 03 8808 6010 and ask that they stop works and choose the alternative route that won’t destroy these sacred trees.
