25.01.2022 Last week, the annual Ravensthorpe Wildflower Show wrapped up in Western Australia after 10 days of wildflower glory! There were 41 local eucalypt species featu...red amongst the more than 500 plants on show. Thank you to author, agriculturalist and eucalypt taxonomist Malcolm French for sending through these photos. We wish we could have been there! Malcolm says that there are more than 100 species and subspecies of eucalypt in the Ravensthorpe area alone! Were any of you lucky enough to attend this year? https://wildflowersravensthorpe.org.au/ See more

22.01.2022 Today is about sequoia trees. Sequoia is one of the most amazing trees you can see on earth, They can easily reach 100 M in height and can live for many centu...ries. However, there is one catch. They can meet those numbers only within the forest because they grow up next to their parents. They are thought about how to grow, how to dose up their resources, and how to plan everything so they can live for many centuries. Isn`t this amazing? However, trees don`t grow only within the forest but also, humans planted them in the cities. Is there any difference between a city tree or a forest tree? Let`s find out. City trees are the forest babies that were abandoned on the streets. At first, they have a lot of fun. They do whatever they want. They grow fast, they grow their branches everywhere and they enjoy all the sun they can get. What a lovely life isn`t it? Well, it is but only for a couple of years. What happens, in reality, is that city trees will live a much shorter and harsher life. For instance, they will not grow up straight because they don`t know how to and every wind may or may not break them. Moreover, their roots dont grow in-depth but grow only on the horizontally which makes the sequoia less stable. They can break up anytime. One more bad thing is caused, actually, by our love for the trees . By spending time under them, enjoying their shadow, in a few years, we make the soil around them harder. A harder soil doesn`t allow the water to go into the soil the way it should. Moreover, some of the City trees are forced to grow their roots near the water pipes but not because they need more water. They grow their roots there because the soil is airier and allows the roots to breathe. Sadly, if they overgrow their roots and break a pipe they are cut down and replaced by another lost baby of the forest. All those things can halve the life expectancy of the trees . Next time you see trees in your city, share your love with them more. They live such a harsh life and nobody knows that. #AdoptATree #GreenEarth #StartUp #Forest #CityTree #ForestTree

14.01.2022 Did you know that the Wollemi Pine is basically a dinosaur?! Its thought to have existed 200 million years ago. Here are some pine-tastic facts to impress your... friends with: it was discovered in 1994 before then scientists thought it was extinct and only fossils of it survived David Noble found it by chance while bushwalking in the Blue Mountains its scientific name is Wollemia nobilis, but some people call it a living fossil its critically endangered in NSW and very rare. : Jaime Plaza, Botanic Gardens Trust.

04.01.2022 Flowering profusely again, one of my absolute favorite WA small mallees, Eucalyptus tenera (glazed mallee (the shiny olive-green leaves)). With stunning smooth, shiny seasonal coloured bark, profuse annual flowering of mostly cream flowers, occasionally pink and red, a prized standout.
03.01.2022 EUC2020 - Snappy Gum The Snappy Gum or Eucalyptus leucophloia is a mysterious tree that can be found in the Pilbara of Western Australia and the East of the Nor...thern Territory into Western Queensland. Strangely, there is a very large 1000km gap in its distribution which we like to call The Snappy Void . While there are many unanswered mysteries what we do know is that this tree with its love of hot dry conditions is perfect for use in Restoration Ecology. Thanks to Eucalypt Australia
