24.01.2022 NAIDOC week is a celebration held across Australia each year observing the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. During this week, Children's House are engaging in different activities to support awareness and education of the Indigenous Australian culture. We engaged in various art and craft activities, creating dot art, painting rocks and telling traditional dream time stories. These experiences allow our students to develop their understanding and empathy skills by responding to diversity with respect.
24.01.2022 Well done to all students who participated in the Northern and Central Schools Rugby Gala Day today. Despite the inclement weather, it was a fun and positive experience. As some schools had to pull out at the last minute, things didn’t quite go to plan, but our students showed resilience and got out there to have a go at something new. It was a great opportunity for meeting students from other schools, and our students showed good sportsmanship throughout the whole day. Congr...atulations to Year 9 student, Sam, who was awarded ‘Player of the Tournament’ for Years 7-9 Mixed Touch Rugby. A big thank you to Swan Districts Football Club for donating boots for each of our students to wear today!
24.01.2022 Congratulations to Surya in Year 7 who is one of thirty high school-aged children from around Australia to be chosen as a finalist in The Lester Prizes Youth Competition WAs premier fine art prize. 23.01.2022 Update: Thank you to our supportive community! We now have enough lemons WE NEED LEMONS! If anyone has any lemons they could donate to us, that would be greatly appreciated. Boxes/bags can be dropped off at the school office Monday to Friday 8am - 4pm. Thank you in advance!
23.01.2022 Energy of a Nut! Today, students weren't the only nuts in class... In Science, the Jarrah students burned walnuts, almonds, and crackers to figure out the amount of energy stored inside.
23.01.2022 Children’s House ventured outside for some outdoor education/STEM activities today. We learned about campfires and telling stories, and tested our skills in some mountain climbing.
23.01.2022 An interesting article on the benefits of learning a second language. At Treetops, we have an outstanding Japanese language program for students from Children's House right through to Tuart in Year 12, providing continuity of learning. https://www.smh.com.au//just-a-few-minutes-daily-learning-
23.01.2022 Children's House enjoyed their Hospital Familiarisation incursion yesterday, which aimed to increase their knowledge and reduce their anxiety about hospitalisation and medical care. Nurse Maryanne started the session with an interactive mat talk and demonstrated a wide range of medical equipment on life-sized dolls. Students watched a DVD called ‘Let’s Play Hospitals’, then had the opportunity to be involved in various activities including dressing up in hospital uniforms and using medical equipment on the dolls. They took turns on the wheelchairs and crutches, and played with the hospital play-sets, puzzles and books. This incursion provided our students with many new learning experiences.
22.01.2022 Wattle class talked about First Aid in the bush yesterday. We learned the word immobilise and found that in an emergency, a piece of bark could do the trick if we are injured. Here are photos of Wattle immobilising one another.
22.01.2022 A multitude of volcanoes erupted in unison yesterday during Childrens Houses STEM lesson. It was a sight to behold!
22.01.2022 Wattle are starting to look at Digital Technologies for STEM, and what better way than starting right at the beginning: How are our machines powered? Simple electric circuits turned a little more complex when we investigated adding buzzers and multiple lights. We then took away the batteries and used mini hand cranked generators to produce our own electricity. Stay tuned for more exciting discoveries.
21.01.2022 Happy Fathers and Carers Day! Wattle class hope you enjoy your gifts

20.01.2022 Did you know there is a large Japanese population in Brazil? Through Treetops participation in the Hakuho Foundation scholarship in 2017, we made strong connections with students and their Japanese teacher from Brazil, amongst other countries. This ongoing relationship led to a zoom conversation this week with our Tuart IBDP Japanese students and their peers in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Treetops students spent time preparing questions, and enjoyed connecting with the Brazilian students. Among other things, students discussed in Japanese the implications of COVID-19 in their respective countries. Another way our IB students are showing their development as caring, open-minded global citizens.
20.01.2022 We recently had a visit from the Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia who came for a PPEP talk with our Secondary girls, which was an interactive session educating students about pelvic pain and endometriosis.
19.01.2022 Today, students made poppies for Remembrance Day, and shared a minute's silence on the 11th hour. Wattle wore their poppies as they participated in the Australian War Memorial Remembrance Day Ceremony at 11 am.
19.01.2022 This week is Languages week around Australia, so in Japanese lessons we have been discussing the benefits of learning a second language. This was the collaboration of ideas from our students.
19.01.2022 Mountains and deserts were the topics of exploration for Wattle students this week. Some were most fascinated by the way tectonic plates move or how deserts are not always hot! Students finished the week off by writing about and drawing a detailed picture of a bilby (Easter bilbies perhaps?..)
18.01.2022 Today is the 10th annual Indigenous Literacy Day. Wattle participated in the online celebration. They listened to and acted out Yu sabi densdensbad? (Can You Dance?) written by Sally Morgan. They danced to No Way Yirrikipayi! and joined in with Jessica Mauboys songs. Everyone enjoyed the experience, learning some new languages, and seeing children in the Tiwi Islands and the Australian desert.
18.01.2022 In Health, Wattle students have been learning about the basic food groups, and today learnt about carbohydrates. What better way is there to remember that pasta is a carbohydrate than to build a pasta tower with polymer clay and spaghetti?
18.01.2022 Zero2Hero Parent Workshop - Tuesday 1st September 3.30pm - 4.30pm for Karri and Secondary parents. Please RSVP to [email protected] by Friday 28th August.
17.01.2022 Children's House have been very busy during their STEM activities, designing and building not only stunning scarecrows, but trellises made from sticks and bamboo for the pea plants to grow up.
17.01.2022 As you may have seen at our Science/STEM Fair, Childrens House have been building upon a project started quite a few weeks ago. Our first attempt at a Jurassic world was just too small, so we broke it up and supersized it! We have used Engineering skills to build the volcanoes (using chicken wire and cardboard tubing), Science techniques in combining clay and glue to form the volcano sides and the water, and Mathematical skills just about everywhere. We built ancient trees out of green floor scourers, sphagnum moss, and shredded paper. Were sure our Jurassic world is a definite one-off, unique to Treetops Childrens House! Stay tuned for our meteor crater, and our attempt at turning STEM into STEAM (A for art), when we add our Jurassic sunrise.
17.01.2022 We hope all of our families have enjoyed the holidays! A reminder that students commence Term 4 on Tuesday 13th October. We look forward to seeing you all then!
16.01.2022 Were getting excited about Science Week in Childrens House. Yesterday, we had Mick from Science Alive come in to explain to us all about Life and what is needed for life to exist.

15.01.2022 #materialsmonday Treetops - A Montessori and International Baccalaureate School Year 5 and 6 students have created these brilliant STEM projects using REmida Perth materials. We cannot wait to see them lit up for Science Week!
15.01.2022 Wattle collaborated to create a t-shirt design for NAIDOC week. Wattle students chose to put a tree in the middle to represent Treetops. They added a ring of the infinity symbol around the tree and then added the symbol for people on the outside. The image tells the story of the never ending friendship at Treetops School.
14.01.2022 We were so thrilled to see such amazing characters walk through our doors on Tuesday morning! Thank you parents for all of your efforts! Book Character Day is such a fun way of celebrating and anchoring our experiences in literacy. The chosen books were just as important as the costume! We had a record number of students brave the crowd and talk about their characters. After the parade, Children’s House had our favourite books read to us by our Buddy class, Karri. These... buddy friendships have blossomed and both the older and younger children have thrived in this atmosphere. The Karri children are taking on leadership and responsibility roles. They are forming a mentorship at such an early age that it can only help to grow their life skills, while our younger children, in this relaxed and safe environment, find endless opportunities for learning. 14.01.2022 Congratulations to our IB Diploma students Beth and Yanesca for their early offers from UWA. Yanesca has been offered to study a Bachelor of Economics and Beth a Bachelor of Biomedical Science. Beth aims to study medicine so it is reassuring for her to have this alternative pathway now available. These early offers are a credit to both students diligent and self-motivated approach to learning. Congratulations girls - we are sure your experience with the IB at Treetops will stand you in good stead for your future studies.
14.01.2022 S C I E N C E F A I R 2 0 2 0 What a fabulous day yesterday was! We were lucky to have such nice weather to allow for our outdoor set up areas. Students were so excited to walk around to the different stations across the school and see all of the impressive and informative projects and hands-on activities created for this years Science/STEM Fair. Well done to all students!... It was great that we could share this event with parents and grandparents thank you all for coming.

13.01.2022 Wattle class recently enjoyed a visit to Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, where they learnt a lot about the animals there. They also learnt how to safely capture a sick or injured animal and place it into a Wildlife Protection Box so that they can be taken to an animal hospital. After their visit, Wattle then spent the afternoon going on a bushwalk, where they observed native flora and created spectacular bush art.

13.01.2022 A multitude of volcanoes erupted in unison yesterday during Children’s House's STEM lesson. It was a sight to behold!
13.01.2022 Children’s House had a visit from Elf Holly. Santa has been very busy this season and has sent his elves to help him get organised for the Christmas season. The students had many questions on what life in Lapland is like (such as, where are the little elves, and how old is Santa really?) They were very gracious in receiving their gifts! What a glorious time the festive season is. Elf Holly's big message from Santa was that it is not about getting, but the joy you get from giving. She also told us that Santa is sometimes sad as everyone writes to ask what they want for Christmas, but so few write to say thank you!
13.01.2022 As part of their focus on forces in STEM, Children’s House set up an experiment with balloons - watching air pressure and the movement of balloons along a string.

Our next main performance event, which will involve each of our classes performing musical and dance items, will be the Treetops Performing Arts Night in Term 3.
12.01.2022 A reminder that the International Peace Day Celebration in Darlington is on this Sunday at 3.30pm outside the Darlington Hall. 10.01.2022 Anyone who has the privilege of teaching our Year 11 and 12 students will tell you what a talented, mature and friendly group of young people they are. In the coming weeks they are working on a project to paint some very colourful play spaces on our driveway for Primary students to enjoy during their lunch break. The planned ideas are: Sunflower Hopscotch, Snakes and Ladders, and Space themed stand-on board game. Here is a photo of the beginning of the Sunflower Hopscotch. We cant wait to see it finished!
10.01.2022 In celebration of Outdoor Classroom Day, Children's House had an excursion to the Swan Valley Cuddly Animal Farm yesterday. Here's what some of the Children's House students had to say: My favourite was Rocky the parrot who said "hello" (Olive)... I loved seeing the baby goat being born! (Pixie) I've been waiting my whole life for this!!! (Darcey) I loved feeding the baby guinea pigs lettuce and cabbage. (Evie) I loved the grey bunny and that Daddy came on the bus too! (Emily) I loved the merry-go-round, I went on it twice (Branson) I loved the bus!! (Celeste) The baby goat that just got born....(Georgia) My favorite part was the merry-go-round! 10.01.2022 The Marri class ventured out to Fremantle yesterday to explore the Fremantle Prison and Maritime Museum. The class was led by an amazing tour guide through the prison, who told us the story of Moondyne Joe and how he constantly escaped any cell he was placed in. Students enjoyed re-enacting his many escapes. After leaving the prison, we walked over to the Maritime Museum when it unexpectedly rained. The walk became a wet experience, but we persevered and it was well worth it - the museum was an impressive sight, and the students enjoyed the exhibits. The class consensus was that the preserved shark was the highlight of the museum.

09.01.2022 Some inspiration for those setting up their home work spaces - our Secondary students have shared photos of their work spaces with us. Tips for setting up your space at home: * Pick an area that is your own to work in. * Ensure your space is adequately resourced with supplies needed for you to complete your activities.... * Keep your space neat and tidy. * Remove any distractions from your area. * Your space should include an appropriate chair and desk, be well-lit (natural lighting if possible) and at a comfortable temperature (22-24 degrees). We would love to see your set up! Please send photos through to [email protected].
09.01.2022 A great program which some of our students have previously attended - we would encourage any of our current students to apply via the link below.
09.01.2022 Wattle students stepped back in time to experience a day in the life of a pioneer child. They began walking along the old railway track from Gooseberry Hill to the Kalamunda History Village, as all pioneer children would have done in the past to get to school. Once inside the village, the students graded fruit, made peg dolls to play with, washed, wrung, pegged out, and ironed the laundry among other activities. It appeared their favourite activity was sitting in the old classroom and writing on the slate boards. After the History Village everyone considered a few historic buildings in Kalamunda and the changes that have taken place, before a sketch of Stirk Cottage, and a play at the park. A great pioneer learning day was had by everyone.
09.01.2022 Happy Father's and Carer's Day! Wattle class hope you enjoy your gifts

07.01.2022 Meet 'Lily Tilly', friend to 'Hay Hay'. Children’s House, as part of their STEM program, learned about scarecrows, and how farmers used them many years ago to keep birds off their crops. Scarecrows were used as far back as Ancient Greece!
06.01.2022 Wattle ventured out into the Darlington local community for Outdoor Classroom Day. They visited the Darlington Train Station, learning about a few historic people. They then ventured further along the old railway track and discovered a little creek. They enjoyed paddling in the creek, balancing on logs, investigating minibeasts and completing an art masterpiece in the open air.
06.01.2022 Karri students started the year by searching for their own homes on Google Earth and identifying any possible solar passive features their homes have. They then designed a home that they considered to be solar passive. Here are some of their completed projects.

05.01.2022 To celebrate NAIDOC Week, Yamatji Artist Mandy White presented her work and ran a Bush Creatures workshop with Marri and Karri students. Students learned how stories about cheeky bush creatures kept children behaving properly. Mandy did some demonstrations, then worked with students to create their own creatures with drawing and clay. Mandy was supported by Arts Worker Dimity Gregson, a local Darlington artist who attended Treetops back when it was a Lance Holt School.
03.01.2022 Last week, we went to help Children’s House and Wattle draw things that made them happy and write about their pictures. We are sending the pictures to local nursing homes to make the residents smile as they have been unable to see their families. As part of our IB program we are required to participate in community service projects and this activity was one of them. We really enjoyed hanging out with the younger students and hope to do it more.... - Tuart (Year 11 & 12) students
