24.01.2022 Beautiful at this time of the year throughout Tassie

24.01.2022 The always picturesque Douglas Apsley Waterhole, is perfect for a quick dip on the way home. From its deep river gorges and waterfalls to its dolerite cappe...d plateau; from dry eucalypt forest and colourful heathlands to pockets of rainforest, Douglas-Apsley National Park is a place of surprising contrasts. This park is one of the few that conserve the diverse wealth of dry sclerophyll forest plants found on the east coast of Tasmania. Enjoy a quick picnic by a tranquil stream, a rugged walk through forest and gorge, or a place to study rare plants and animals, so many options! Thanks to @jaynayamorris for the sensational photo and @tasmaniagram . . . #eastcoasttasmania #eastcoastshines #eastcoastwinetrail #makeyourselfathome #greateasterndrive #tasmania #discovertasmania #seeaustralia #australia #coast #ocean #photography #roadtrip #holiday #getaway #beach #paradise #adventure #travel #goplayoutside #letsgosomewhere #keepitwild #lonelyplanet #passionpassport #explorewildly #finditliveit #exploremore #natgeo #TassieStyle #ig_australia

15.01.2022 YAY thanks to the Tasmanian’s who have stayed with us over the last few months we have been able to provide them with an enjoyable stay. We look forward to accommodating Australians far and wide, and we will continue to give our guests a great holiday stay. Not long now!

14.01.2022 A moment of reflection at Port Cygnet. Cygnet’s history goes back as far as 1793 when French explorer Bruni D’Entrecasteaux sailed along the Huon River and name...d the narrow bay Port des Cygnes Noir (The Port of Black Swans) after the large number of swans found in the area. In 1915 the name was changed to Cygnet - the name used to describe a young swan. : https://www.instagram.com/antjeworledge/

12.01.2022 I have taken the liberty of attaching part five ( the final part) of my series on the Midland Highway. Near the end I have acknowledged the help and advice I have received from many members of this Facebook group. Your collective knowledge (and thirst for knowledge ) is immense. Thanks.

07.01.2022 How beautiful is this...

01.01.2022 The Wilson family who established the Crichton property at Mt. Seymour emigrated from Scotland aboard the 'Storm Cloud' in 1855 under the auspices of the St. An...drews Society and with the assistance of their uncle George Wilson senior, they established the 'Wilson Bros.' enterprise at Crichton (named for the village in Scotland that they came from). Twelve years previously George had purchased 560 acres of undeveloped land at five mile marsh, Mt. Seymour and when they arrived in 1855 a stone house was built by stonemason W.Duncan, assisted by Adam Pennicott and F. Darft for the princely sum of 40. The stone was quarried and dressed on the property in an old area known for generations as 'The Shelf'. In all, George's loan to the family was 914 (land and monies to establish the property) and by their hard work they managed to repay this debt in 1871. By 1879 the brothers attained their ambition of 'spreading their wings' and purchased the former land grant to J.W. Storey and incorporated this large acreage with their productive Crichton holding. Many thanks to the previous custodian of most of this collection of photos and papers, Gwenda Oxley. See more
