22.01.2022 Thanks for waiting! Here is Part A - a short video on how to sew my 'Laced Up Feather Stich'. I created this combo stitch for joining two pieces of felt together while making my Queen size bed throw. It has proven to be wonderfully flexible, decorate and not bulky. The stitch also magically accomodates felt's uneven edges. I have used a ripped Silk Fabric Thread for stitching. If you missed the video you can find it and full instructions at: https://treetopscolours.com.au/...ripped-silk-thread/. Part B - 'Lacing up the Feather Stitch' will be posted tomorrow. To view the full instructions and/or see the videos, find them here: https://treetopscolours.com.au/laced-up-feather-stitch-joi/ . I hope you find this stitch useful, if you have any questions please feel free to message me.

18.01.2022 It's all in the detail. Same stitch but with different stitch spacing and needle angle. Normal Feather stitch on the left. On the right, I shortened the stitch spacing plus used a horizontal placement of my needle. Of course, you could even have no spacing between the stitches for yet another variation. Both are great for joining felt (if you lace up the reverse side). Ripped Silk Fabric used for stitching. More details at https://treetopscolours.com.au/ripped-silk-thread/. and for Lacing up the Feather Stitch see: https://treetopscolours.com.au/laced-up-feather-stitch-joi/.

16.01.2022 First opportunity to create some happiness for myself. Was suppose to be the start of a bed quilt for myself, but things didn't go to plan and I turned it into a wrap. Happy none the less.... working on take two of the quilt today. Needing to make it rather subtle as there are too many other patterns in the room to compete with it.... My challenge to myself was also to only work on one table. I used our Silk Chiffon in Limerick and superfine wool in Sea Grass, Aubergine, Jewel, Royal Indigo and Yellow Ochre.

14.01.2022 Would you like to experiment with a new variety of fibres and fabrics? Try out our Silk Mesh Design Pac! Our unique Silk Mesh fabric has been designed by Nancy Ballesteros and is exclusively woven for Treetops. Each Pac contains approximately 3 colourways of Silk Mesh, 3 colourways of coordinating Silk Hankies and Bombyx Silk tops. Eight different colour palletes to choose from (pictures colourway Dark and Moody). Visit www.treetopscolours.com.au then view at Silk Fabric, Sampler Mix Silk Fabric. Sorry if you received this twice, something happened to my previous post...

14.01.2022 What is the best material for a mask is the first thing any serious textile person (like me) would ask... more excellent info on this here. Please read!! As a professional textile person I would like even more technical data like what is the 'momme' and weave structure of these cloths. In case anyone comes across more info please let me know. As a last resort, DIY masks provide more protection than nothing. Researchers tested household materials. Here's which captured the most particles.

11.01.2022 Lots to learn here!

09.01.2022 I always seem to work LARGE and with plenty of time during lockdown I couldn't see why not. I wanted to create a lightweight (175gms), flexible, luxurious throw to go with my existing bedroom décor. I therefore, decided to nuno felt with two layers of Silk Chiffon fabric (150cm wide, 6.5mm) and 18.1 micron superfine merino wool between the silk fabric in a diagonal (Herringbone) layout. It was meant to be a KING size bed throw, but in the end, I settled for Queen size. There ...are many challenges working this large (more on that later). This layout, with a shrinkage ratio of 2 (50%) took 10 large trestle tables, so I worked in two panels which then needed to be joined. I ended up creating a joining stitch which I call a 'Laced Up Feather Stitch', a video on that later... I used some needle felted fabric for the border as a contrast and joined it with the Laced Up Feather Stitch as well. At times I wondered why I ever started this project, but in the end as I snuggle up under it on a cold night, am totally happy I always seen to work LARGE!

03.01.2022 Doing what we can...

03.01.2022 If you are interested in creating your own ripped Silk fabric thread, here is a short video on the process. This is what I use for my Laced Up Feather Stitch (video coming soon). For more complete written instructions view at: https://treetopscolours.com.au/ripped-silk-thread/. This thread is fabulous for all types of embroidery. You can rip it thin or thick. Many types of silk fabrics will work - my favorite is 5 momme Paj. Never worry again if you have the correct colour of thread for your project. Make your own! If you would like to see some fabulous embroidery using this thread see Trish Bygott's wonderfully inspiring work at Bukeshla. Wishing to acknowledge her wonderful contribution to my creative path, plus Elsje van Keppel and Nalda Searles.

01.01.2022 Here is Part B - Lacing Up the Feather Stitch. I found when joining two edges of felt together, side by side, without overlapping you could obtain a very flexible and drapable seam. However, the Feather stitch alone was not enough. The join separated on the backside. So here is how I solved the problem - I 'laced it up'! More details and full instructions can be viewed at: https://treetopscolours.com.au/laced-up-feather-stitch-joi/
