22.01.2022 One litre of fun from Antonio Camillo now back in stock. These won’t last long. Tutti i Giorni = wine for all day and every day. Don’t think, drink. The big bottles are great to share with friends but if you’re a Victorian you’ll just be sitting at home with a bottle to yourself ;) We love these @antoniocamilloviniditerritorio
20.01.2022 Wine reps, have you seen one lately? Call 1300BAROLO. They are not dangerous and mostly domesticated but approach with kindness. #backtowork #wine #vino
20.01.2022 This weeks review of the new 2018 Marko Fon Malvasija by @mikebennie101 in The Wine Front (pic 5) got me thinking about one of the greatest days we’ve had in this business. . We’d been in the Friuli, staying at @subidasirk - one of my favourites places in the world to sleep, eat and drink - and @mitjasirk, after we’d tasted our way through a chunk of the wine list, said you two should go over the border and meet Marko Fon. So the next morning we did. As you can see by the sig...n we might have got a little lost on the way. . After disturbing the entire village trying to find Marko he came to find us. It was mid morning, a bluebird day, and whilst Marko was finishing off a few things he poured us a glass of wine and we sat in the courtyard. After a touring the vineyards and getting a history lesson along the way, we returned and that glass of wine I left behind (Trembles had finished his!) was so alive. We poured another and Marko offered some cheese. Ten minutes later he comes out with six cheeses and tells us that they come from a neighbour and he swapped an old oven for them. They were six of the best cheeses I’ve ever had, now washed down with a 10 year vertical of Malvasija. . Talking wine, cheese and life made time disappear. It’s about 3pm by this stage and we have totally forgotten about the fact that we need to be in Modena, 4.5 hours away, for an 8pm booking at a little restaurant called Osteria Francescana. So we place our first order, say goodbye, and put the foot down all the way to Modena, dumping our bags and heading straight to dinner to be wowed by the cooking of @massimobottura. Dinner was incredible and we ate nearly everything, except the cheese course. . Marko is simply a great human and we love his wines. I can’t wait to return and spend some more time with him. And eat some cheese. MP . #italianwinestories #vino #italy #slovenia #malvasia #malvasija #markofon See more

17.01.2022 Cheering me up in week 4 of Victoria’s Lockdown2 is the arrival of our new winery from Lazio. Daniele (in the pic) and Pierluca Proietti shot to fame with their previous label Costa Graia. It was a label I saw in all of my favourite restaurants in Rome, from Roscioli to Armando, and every time I ordered a bottle it was perfect with cucina alla Romana. The boys are now out on their own with Abbia Nova, named after the ancient Roman road that links their territory in south east...ern Lazio with neighbouring Abruzzo. . Their farming is entirely sustainable, incorporating Fukuoka methods with elements of biodynamics and homeopathic remedies. They don’t use copper or sulphur in the vineyards and, in the cantina, strictly natural yeasts and no additions apart from a tiny amount of sulphur. . In addition to Cesanese and Passerina, there are plantings of Bellone, Ottonese, Nostrano and Fosco Peloso, surrounded by 1000 olive trees, walnut trees and a vegetable and herb garden, all farmed with the same principles. . Our first two wines, Passerina and Cesanese del Piglio, are labelled senzavandalismi, meaning without vandalism. . Passerina is from the 50 year San Giovanni vineyard and spends almost a day on skins with whole bunch maceration. Balancing freshness, complexity and intrigue, the short skin contact gives the wine a slippery texture that adds another layer. Where’s the cacio e pepe? . Cesanese, from vines 15-80 years old, is bright and juicy with red fruits and crunchiness for days. Great with trippa alla Romana but if that’s not your thing, abbacchio or bucatini all’amatriciana. . #lazio #rome #piglio #cesanese #passerina See more

13.01.2022 We’re back in the office making all the big decisions, like will it be Costanti Brunello or Pietradolce Etna Rosso Rampante to go with lunch. Trembles won, so it’s Brunello with ham sandwiches! #drinkitalianwine

11.01.2022 NEW delicious red from Paolo Petrilli just landed! It’s a mouthful of wine, quite literally. Try saying this fast 3 times: Cacc’e Mmitte di Lucera. . From Lucera in northern Puglia, this is a fresh and lively blend of the local Nero di Troia, Montepulciano, Sangiovese and Bombino. Great value for money here and certified organic too. . The names comes from an old local custom whereby a winemaking facility would be shared amongst growers on a daily rental basis and the grapes... had to ‘cacce’ (be taken out) of the vat and ‘mmitte’ (put in) the press in preparation for the next grower. #drinkitalianwines . Paolo also happens to grow wheat for pasta and bottles the most sought after tomatoes in Italy. Our friends at @doc_gastronomia have them on the shelves and they have become favourites at our house. #cookitalian See more
10.01.2022 Arriving this week is a welcome edition to the @anticatorino2016 family and the first batch of their new Dry Vermouth. If you know you know that their Vermouth Rosso makes THE best, most complex Negroni. Now it’s your turn . . Crafted from a recipe from the 1950’s, it expertly blends herbs of the garden and mountain including absinthe, centaurea, hyssop, thistle and sage. Following maceration it is partially distilled and blended with Cortese wine to an elegant, floral and vinous vermouth. #drinkitalian #vermouth #vermouthditorino #martini #artisanspirits #baressentials
09.01.2022 Buona Pasquetta a tutti. Normally at this time of the year we would be in Italy visiting our wineries, tasting new vintages and sharing a meal and many laughs with our friends. One day we’ll be able to do that again. In the meantime, Spring in Italy looks beautiful as always 1 - Felsina in Chianti Classico 2 - Alto Adige from Franz Haas’ 900 metre Pinot Nero vineyard. 3 - Moscato Rosa bud break.
05.01.2022 25 years of importing great Italian wine, grappa, vermouth and digestivi and we are looking forward to the next 25. We will get through this, with some bruises I know, but on the other side we want to be there for our partners in Italy and our customers in Australia. Italy has been ravaged by Covid19 and during this crisis they have shown remarkable spirit and generosity. So this ones for you Bel Paese. A group of us downunder including @quelvino @tricoloreimports @etherealwines @lacartawine and @enotecasileno (grazie Enoteca for the logo) are asking you to share the love and use the tags #cookitalian when you are AT HOME in the kitchen and #drinkitalian #drinkitalianwines when you are AT HOME sipping some of Italy’s finest. Buona Pasqua, stay home, eat and drink Italian.
