19.01.2022 WATCH LIVE: Congressman John Lewis lies in state at Georgia Capitol rotunda

18.01.2022 UPDATE from the Board OF General Purposes Dear Brethren, The latest State Government directions announced this week require all people in the Melbourne metropolitan area and Mitchell Shire to stay at home, subject to a small number of strict exemptions.... These COVID-19 restrictions are in place for at least the next six weeks. Other staged restrictions are still in place for people in the remainder of Victoria. Health officials advise that a solution to the pandemic will not be found within a matter of weeks. It had been hoped that Freemasons Victoria Lodges and Masonic Centres might re-open in country areas from 1 August 2020, and in metropolitan areas from 1 September 2020. This is no longer possible. There are to be no physical meetings or Installations until advised by the Board. This supersedes any previous instructions. Masonic centres across Victoria are not to be used for any Lodge meetings, including monthly or committee meetings. The Board has allowed a specific exemption to allow outside third parties (for example, dance schools) to hire our halls, where they are an income source, providing that the hirers comply strictly with Government regulations. The Board of General Purposes of Freemasons Victoria met last night (Thursday 9 July) and voted unanimously to accept a recommendation from the Freemasons Future Recovery Team. The decision has been made to have Lodges or Masonic Centres NOT open anywhere in Victoria until at least 1 January 2021. This determination is subject to alteration, only if circumstances dictate. The Board will issue firm instructions about re-opening only when it is considered safe to do so. At all times, the advice of Federal and State Governments, and health authorities, will be followed to the letter. The Board acknowledges that Freemasons across Victoria are keen to return to Lodge as soon as possible. Board members feel the same way. However, the most serious nature of the COVID-19 pandemic requires our organisation to adopt the most stringent approach towards protecting the health of all. Given the demographic of our membership, many of our fraternity are vulnerable and these health concerns must always be our top priority. Although there will be no face-to-face meetings, Lodges are encouraged to conduct Zoom get-togethers on the night of their usual monthly meetings. Please, stay home, stay safe and stay connected. Yours Fraternally, RWBro. Myles King OAM President of the Board of General Purposes MWBro. Richard Elkington Grand Master

09.01.2022 On November 7th, 1920, in strictest secrecy, four unidentified British bodies were exhumed from temporary battlefield cemeteries at Ypres, Arras, the Asine and ...the Somme. None of the soldiers who did the digging were told why. The bodies were taken by field ambulance to GHQ at St-Pol-Sur-Ter Noise. Once there, the bodies were draped with the union flag. Sentries were posted and Brigadier-General Wyatt and a Colonel Gell selected one body at random. The other three were reburied. A French Honour Guard was selected and stood by the coffin overnight of the chosen soldier overnight. On the morning of the 8th November, a specially designed coffin made of oak from the grounds of Hampton Court arrived and the Unknown Warrior was placed inside. On top was placed a crusaders sword and a shield on which was inscribed: "A British Warrior who fell in the GREAT WAR 1914-1918 for King and Country". On the 9th of November, the Unknown Warrior was taken by horse-drawn carriage through Guards of Honour and the sound of tolling bells and bugle calls to the quayside. There, he was saluted by Marechal Foche and loaded onto HMS Vernon bound for Dover. The coffin stood on the deck covered in wreaths, surrounded by the French Honour Guard. Upon arrival at Dover, the Unknown Warrior was met with a nineteen gun salute - something that was normally only reserved for Field Marshals. A special train had been arranged and he was then conveyed to Victoria Station, London. He remained there overnight, and, on the morning of the 11th of November, he was finally taken to Westminster Abbey. The idea of the unknown warrior was thought of by a Padre called David Railton who had served on the front line during the Great War the union flag he had used as an altar cloth whilst at the front, was the one that had been draped over the coffin. It was his intention that all of the relatives of the 517,773 combatants whose bodies had not been identified could believe that the Unknown Warrior could very well be their lost husband, father, brother or son... THIS is the reason we wear poppies. We do not glorify war. We remember - with humility - the great and the ultimate sacrifices that were made, not just in this war, but in every war and conflict where our service personnel have fought - to ensure the liberty and freedoms that we now take for granted. Every year, on the 11th of November, we remember the Unknown Warrior. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

05.01.2022 "DON'T BURY ME WITH OUT MY APRON" " It is an ancient custom When a Brother Mason passes way,... That he no longer wears his Apron And his tools they quietly lay. But I beg of you my Brothers Closest family and Loved ones to, That I must wear my Apron For I have yet so much to do. Though I may not have it on The day I meet my fate, I'll be pennyless and destitute As I pass that pearly gate. For the Grand Master has sent me a summons On that very day, And as in my obligations You know I must obey. That Grand Lodge will be called and opened For my final Degree, So I must be properly clothed For the Grand Tyler to admit me. Don't bury me without my Apron My tools must not lay rest, For it's in that Grand Lodge above Where I must work my best. Amen!! S M I B!! "

04.01.2022 THE OLD MASTERS WAGES "The Old Masters Wages" I met a dear old man today, Who wore a Masonic pin, It was old and faded like the man, It's edges were worn quite thin.... I approached the park bench where he sat, To give the old brother his due, I said, "I see you've traveled east," He said, "I have, have you." I said, "I have, and in my day Before the all seeing sun, I played in the rubble, with Jubala, Jubalo and Jubalum." He shouted, "don't laugh at the work my son, It's good and sweet and true, And if you've travelled as you said, You should give these things their due." The word, the sign the token, The sweet Masonic prayer, The vow that all have taken, Who've climbed the inner stair. The wages of a Mason, Are never paid in gold, But the gain comes from contentment, When you're weak and growing old. You see, I've carried my obligations, For almost fifty years, It has helped me through the hardships And the failures full of tears. Now I'm losing my mind and body, Death is near but I don't despair, I've lived my life upon the level, And I'm dying upon the square. Sometimes the greatest lessons Are those that are learned anew, And the old man in the park today Has changed my point of view. To all Masonic brothers, The only secret is to care, May you live your life upon the level, May you part upon the square.

02.01.2022 Ten Master Masons, happy, doing fine; One listened to a rumor, then there were nine. Nine Master Masons, faithful, never late; One didn't like the "Master", then there were eight.... Eight Master Masons, on their way to heaven; One joined to many clubs, then there were seven. Seven Master Masons, life dealt some hard licks; One grew discouraged, then there were six. Six Master Masons, all very much alive; One lost his interest, then there were five. Five Master Masons, wishing there were more; Got into a great dispute, then there were four. Four Master Masons, busy as could be; One didn't like the programs, then there were three. Three Master Masons, was one of them you? One grew tired of all the work, then there were two. Two Master Masons with so much to be done; One said "What's the use", then there was one. One Master Mason, found a brother - true! Brought him to the Lodge, then there were two. Two Master Masons didn't find work a bore; Each brought another, then there were four. Four Master Masons saved their Lodges fate; By showing others kindness, then there were eight. Eight Master Masons, loving their Lodges bright sheen; Talked so much about it, they soon counted sixteen. Sixteen Master Masons, to their obligations true; Were pleased when their number went to thirty-two. So we can't put our troubles at the Lodges door; It's our fault for harming the Lodge we adore. Don't fuss about the programs or the "Master" in the East; Keep your obligation by serving even the very least.
