08.05.2022 WoW it's December already and it's assumed everyone LOVES Christmas. It’s assumed Christmas is a time of happiness, celebration, joy, gratitude and all the good things. There are so many reasons to be happy at this time of year, but what if you just can’t live up to the expectations? Often the reason we're so stressed, anxious and often unhappy is because we're so focused on oursleves. SO.....this December how about we focus on spreading some kindness (for ourselves and othe...rs) and we'd love you to join us! Each day this month I'll post a suggestion of something we can do for others. 23.01.2022 Do you spend most of your day sitting?! When you don't get enough activity and sitting most of the day, your muscles are at rest -- and this can take a big toll on your health. Your body was made to move and be active, so if you're spending the majority of your time at a desk then going home and lazing around on the couch, you'll see and feel the effects. Inactivity has major physical effects on your body as a whole, but also on certain muscle groups in particular. Your abdom...inal muscles are one group affected by inactivity. Fat accumulation and muscle deterioration is typically most noticeable first along the front and sides of your waist. One easy way to help avoid this is to engage your core, even when you're just sitting at your desk or lounging around. You do this by tucking your lower abdominal muscles in, so you can feel tightness in your abs. 17.01.2022 Between the ages of 30 and 80, both men and women can lose anywhere from 30%-50% of their muscle strength. Decreasing strength can make it a challenge to lead an active lifestyle or find the energy to complete the daily errands, much less exercise. Inactivity can make muscle loss even worse. Despite the consequences of muscle mass loss, some older individuals are still reluctant to try to improve their fitness level through resistance workouts. Theres false belief that after years of inactivity, they are too old to pick up a dumbbell. But with the right mindset, anyone can set goals to improve your body composition thatll improve your energy level and keep you active long into your older years.

If you find it hard to be self-motivated on the best of days try getting yourself a personal trainer or a training buddy. I guarantee you will be less likely to hit the snooze button if you know you have committed to meeting someone at an arranged time. If you tend to gravitate toward more traditional activities like running, biking, or swimming look for ways to change up your workout (especially on weekends to include the whole family). For instance, instead of running on the treadmill or the road, head for a local park/bushland. Not only will you experience an enjoyable change of scenery, but youll work your body in a different way that can enhance your overall fitness level (and you may just see a cute fluffy koala as I did today). Get outdoors and get active this weekend!

Trust that gut instinct and act on it. By starting a conversation and commenting on the changes youve noticed, you could help that family member, friend or workmate open up. If they say they are not ok, you can follow conversation steps at www.ruok.org.au to show them theyre supported and help them find strategies to better manage the load. If they are ok, that person will know youre someone who cares enough to ask. Today is R U OK DAY!!!

06.01.2022 Like anything in life, if we want something to work then we have to put in some effort. This certainly applies to getting fit, staying in shape and looking after your health. CONSISTENCY is the key word here. When I hear someone talking about not achieving his/her goals I can almost guarantee that the right amount of effort has not been applied or he/she has not been consistent enough. Remember that your body is your vehicle to take you through life and if you dont look after it what else will you travel in? It is your choice to make it your limousine, not your broken down old wreck. Give this workout a go 2 or 3 days this week. *Make sure you adjust it to your fitness level (for the jog/sprint it's ok if you can only manage a fast walk at the moment)*

06.01.2022 This is a great idea!! This October anyone can do a marathon....it's less than 1.4km per day. Run it, walk it, jog it or complete it in a way thats a challenge for you. Clock up the kilometres in a day or over a few days, a couple of weeks or throughout the whole month. Whether its at the park, in the gym, or on the streets with friends. 04.01.2022 SETTING REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS Our bodies don't become deconditioned overnight nor will they bounce back to how we looked & felt when we were 20 either.....sorry!! As a Fitness & Health Coach I always encourage my clients to set goals that are realistic and achievable in terms of exercise, nutrition, weightloss and lifestyle demands. You really need to check your expectations when it comes to the bigger picture of what you are trying to achieve. ... Resist the temptation of focusing on what others look like or are doing and channel your effort and energy into the small day-to-day achievements that will add up to your overall goal.

01.01.2022 When you exercise (raising your heart rate) your body releases chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins interact with the receptors in your brain that reduce your perception of pain (both physical & mental pain). Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body, similar to that of morphine. Gotta endorphins!!!

01.01.2022 WHERE DO I START?? Often when meeting with new clients they are so overwhelmed & anxious with the thoughts of where do I start & where I am today versus where I want/need to be. Over the next few days lets break it down with the easiest ways to get moving, stop making excuses all while improving mental, emotional & physical health!!... Only think about today, NOT your end goal. At the beginning the gap is too large between the two and this is usually the biggest reason why we don't start. If it has been a significant period of time since you laced up your trainers, clearly define the boundary between ideal and realistic!! That is, what would you like to achieve versus the reality of fitting it in around work, home and lifes other demands. The goal when starting your exercise regime is not to break records, but to create a realistic sustainable fitness and lifestyle habit. Keep in mind, it's not just the physical benefits of exercise, such as increases in strength, endurance and fitness, but also the emotional benefits such as improvements in mental and emotional health. *Be Active *Be Healthy *Be Happy
