23.01.2022 GETS: Group Exercise and Therapy Sessions. The Rain scared a few people away this morning. It was a lovely cool morning for our GETS session.... 3km walk today and an SOS meditation to finish off the session and start the week with the right Mindset We will be continuing with these sessions right up through and until 21st December. 23.01.2022 It's National "Are You Okay Day"? Firstly. What about YOU?... Are you Okay.? You can check the signs like the picture below: Are you sleeping okay? Is your appetite okay? Are you still interested in your activties? Are you withdrawing from people and things you like to do? Are you feeling tired all the time? Does nothing in life give you pleasure at the moment? These may all be signs that YOU are not okay. What to do if you feel like this? There is a number of things that you can do. You can call a friend and chat to them. You can call LifeLine or BeyondBlue or Mensline or one of the many other online free counselling services. You can schedule in regular walking or exercise routine. You can join a new group of like minded people. See your Doctor and discuss a referral to a psychologist. You are not Alone. Yes it is Are You Okay Day. Check in with you first. Then check in with a friend.

20.01.2022 GETS today. Group Exercise and Therapy Sessions. What a way to start the week.... For those of you who do not know I am a registered psychologist with a Master's Degree in Health Psychology. As a way of initiating and encouraging both exercise and meditation into the community I run a program called GETS. Group Exercise and Therapy Sessions. These are held every Monday morning at 9:30am and 10:15am at Len Fox Park. Today the first group walked 2.86km. Second group walked 2.53km Those that walked twice walked 5.19km Our mindfulness session reviewed the sleeping techniques that were discussed last week and we tweaked some of those strategies for individuals. Then we discussed Gratitude and the effectiveness of being and focussing on Gratitude. We listened to a 5 min meditation on being Grateful and how to incorporate this into our lives on a regular daily basis. Thank you to everyone who came. Awesome start to the Week.

16.01.2022 Our Thinking influences our mood and influences our Actions. There are ways we can learn to "Reframe Our Thinking." Most psychologist work within a CBT Framework helping to develop the skills of being aware and then changing the way we percieve things.... There are also a few free online courses that are accessible for learning CBT. If you want to know more then check out www.BeyondBlue or the website "Thiswayup" Let me know if you have any questions. And here is CBT explained: Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) is an effective treatment approach for a range of mental and emotional health issues, including anxiety and depression. CBT aims to help you identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and to learn practical self-help strategies. These strategies are designed to bring about immediate positive changes in your quality of life. CBT can be good for anyone who needs support to challenge unhelpful thoughts that are preventing them from reaching their goals or living the life they want to live. CBT aims to show you how your thinking affects your mood. It teaches you to think in a less negative way about yourself and your life. It is based on the understanding that thinking negatively is a habit that, like any other habit, can be broken.

11.01.2022 Christmas is not always Merry for Every One. 2020 has been especially hard on many families. I wanted to share some of these Community Facebook Group which are here to help and assist those of you in need.... Each one of these organizations offer different kinds of help. The advice I would offer if you are struggling financially is to contact these organizations either through facebook or google the contact numbers and call them. Please do not allow pride to stand in your way. If you need food for your family, or fuel or other essentials these people can help you. You do not have to suffer in silence.

07.01.2022 I know how much we all enjoy Monday Mornings and our GETS group. So many variables that contribute to that enjoyment are included on this list. While Monday's are an awesome and invigorating way to begin our week it is also important to carry this over into the rest of the week.... Try to take the opportunity to get outside and clear your mind Take in the scents of nature Collect some feathers Listen to the birds Find shapes in the cloud Collect rocks that you are drawn too (permitted areas) These are all mindfulness activties that allow those moments of separateness from the hustle and bustle of life. 04.01.2022 Great start to the week with these awesome people. Fresh air, sunlight, exercise and friendships. Birds, dogs, cyclists, kiddies and couples. ... This morning on the walk we had it all . Smiles and laughter and meditation. The meditation today was focussed on listening. An interesting combination of sounds that are designed to keep you focussed on the waves of the music, tuning into each different tempo as you also focus on breathing, in an attempt to forget about yesterday, stop worrying about tomorrow and focus simply on the NOW. I found this one a little difficult today with so many things running constantly through my head. All that tells me is I need to practice meditation more mindfully every day. Thank you to all who came today.

01.01.2022 Monday Morning GETS Group. Group Exercise and Therapy Sessions. 2:60km for first group and 1.73km for second group.... Well done Guys. Today we focussed on Sleep Hygiene. The group shared what strategies they use and have found effective for early awakening, difficulty falling asleep and intermittent awakening. I also shared several evidence based research techniques for assisting with these sleeping problems. Including: Routine. Routine is important. So establish yourself a bed time routine Try to go to bed at the same time every night Try to wake up at the same time every morning. No matter how tired you are do not sleep during the day. Reserve your bedroom for sex, reading and sleeping. Avoid watching TV in your room. Limit coffee and coke and tea as much as possible and especially 4 hours before bedtime. If you cannot sleep after 1/2 an hour then Get Up and have a warm milk or glass of water. Play a meditation and go back to bed. When you go to bed change your language to yourself. What I mean by this is, take the pressure off yourself. Tell yourself, it's okay if I cannot go to sleep. If I cannot go to sleep in 1/2 an hour then I will get up. By taking the pressure of yourself and changing your language then you will be able to relax more. Happy Sleeping And thank you everyone who turned up for GETS this morning.
