01.05.2022 Morton's Neuroma A Morton’s neuroma usually presents as a burning or sharp pain, in the ball of the foot. It develops when the nerves that run between the metatarsal bones, at the base of the toes, becomes irritated and inflamed. Symptoms usually worsen with increased activity or prolonged periods of standing. Morton's neuroma is caused by footwear that squeezes the forefoot or has minimal cushioning, biomechanical problems, flat arches and certain activities o...r injuries. Podiatrists can provide a diagnosis, sometimes with the assistance of an ultrasound to determine the size and position of the neuroma. Treatment methods include modifications to footwear, orthotics, anti-inflammatory agents, changing shoe styles and in very severe cases, an ultrasound guided cortisone injection may be necessary. If you are suffering from Morton's neuroma, our Podiatrists can help! Book an appointment on (08) 6269 2038
26.04.2022 Today is International Women's Day Women are more likely to have foot problems than men. This is mostly because of footwear choices where women are more likely to wear narrow fitting shoes and high heels that have adverse affects on their feet. The most common foot problems encountered by women are:... Morton's Nueroma - thickening of nerve tissue in the ball of the foot cause by squeezing feet into tapered or tight shoe boxes Bunions - pushes the big toe towards the second toe of the foot, causing a change in bone structure and a prominent bump on the side of the foot. This can be made worse by narrow toe boxes where the big toe is often forced on top of the second toe. Plantar Fasciitis - pain in the heel that can be caused by wearing unsupportive shoes such as ballet flats If you are a woman struggling with foot pain, or know of a woman who is, encourage them to get their feet checked by a Podiatrist in honour of International Women's Day! Appointments can be booked by calling (08) 6269 2038

20.01.2022 Common Winter Foot Problems Heel Pain The most common cause of heel pain is plantar fasciitis - the inflammation of the ligament that connects your heel bone to the toes and runs across the bottom of your foot. ... Our Podiatrists can provide you with stretches, a deep tissue massage and custom orthotics to help treat the condition. 19.01.2022 Why is foot pain common in winter? During the colder weather, the tissue in our joints may contract and pull on our nerve endings. This results in joint pain. The cold weather can also cause foot conditions such as plantar fasciitis, heel pain and arch pain to flare up considerably. Another reason for winter foot pain is the left over effects from our summer footwear. We tend to wear less supportive shoes in summer, such as thongs and sandals. The strain... can build up and result in overstretching of your muscles and tendons which, by the winter months, can become unbearable. Rain or shine, if your feet are causing you grief, its time to see the Podiatrist. Don't worry - we'll keep the clinic warm for you. Book an appointment by calling (08) 6269 2038.

18.01.2022 Morton's neuroma is when the nerves running between your metatarsal bones (found at the base of your toes) become irritated and inflamed, resulting in a burning or sharp pain in the ball of the foot. Friction and pressure from the metatarsal bones on the nerve causes it to become painful and inflamed. This can be caused by poor footwear, biomechanical problems, flat arches or certain activities. Depending on the severity of the condition, our podiatrists can eith...er diagnose in clinic or refer you for an ultrasound. Treatment options include orthotics, footwear correction, anti-inflammatory agents and in severe cases, a cortisone injection. Does this sound like you? Don't suffer any more! 13.01.2022 National Carers week runs from 11th of October to the 17th and aims to raise awareness of unpaid carers and their caring role in Australia. Currently, there are 2.65 million unpaid carers within Australia who provide unpaid care to family and friends. It is estimated that carers will provide 2.2 billion hours of unpaid care in 2020. This year’s theme is #WhyWeCare. It provides a platform for unpaid carers to submit their story about why they fulfill an unpaid carers role... and for non-carers, it provides a way for them to acknowledge and celebrate unpaid carers. As a healthcare organisation, we see many carers come through our doors, helping to bring our patients to their podiatry appointment and thus helping them prioritise their foot health. It is important for us to celebrate and thank these people who play such a vital role in helping us maintain the health of our patient’s lower limbs and prevent any further issues arising. Without their assistance, some of our patients would not have the ability to access podiatry, nor would they be capable of looking after their own feet which could result in complications such as hindering mobility. In honour of #Carers2020, head to http://www.carersweek.com.au/tell-us-why-you-care/ and submit your own story about why you care.
08.01.2022 HOW TO TALK TO YOUR PARENTS ABOUT THEIR FOOT HEALTH Have you noticed something isn’t quite right with your parent’s fee Do you think a podiatrist should take a look at their feet? Do you believe they should be taking more care of their feet?... If you’re answering yes to any or all of the questions above, but aren’t sure how to broach the subject with your parents, here are a few tips to help you: Express your concern in a way that does not patronise or embarrass them. Avoid saying You need to or I need you too If you know they won’t react well to being asked directly, try an indirect approach. Say something like, I went to see my podiatrist yesterday and they asked of any foot problems in the family. Do you have a moment to talk about it? Be prepared for some push back, such as Well you don’t see a podiatrist or I don’t see you looking after your feet. If you visit the podiatrist yourself, it shows your parents you strongly believe in prioritising your foot health and is more likely to convince them to also attend. Have you got any more tips? Comment them below to help others!
08.01.2022 What shoes cause the most pain? High heels Running shoes Boots... Flats Thongs Avoid shoes with a pointy, closed toe, high stiletto, crowded toe box, excessive wear on heel or soles and those that require 'breaking in'. Instead, opt for cushioning at the front of the shoe, generous toe box area, heel height of two inches or less (if you can't let go of the high heels) and a shoe with a slight heel or wedge which encourages your arch to lift. You shouldn't be suffering from constant foot pain. If you are, call us to book in for a Podiatry appointment. Or, if you're confused about whether your shoes are right for you, our Podiatrists can provide you with footwear advice. Give us a call on (08) 6269 2038.

07.01.2022 CYCLING INJURIES Foot pain in cyclists is very common. There are two main foot concerns seen - 'hot foot' and plantar fasciitis. Hot foot is a burning, numbness or painful sensation on the underside of the foot. It is caused by pressure on the nerves that travel from the ball of the foot to the toes. This is normally caused by tight shoes or incorrect cleat placement. Our podiatrists can help by giving you correct footwear advice. ... Plantar fasciitis is when the thick band of tissue that runs along the underside of the foot becomes overly tight or damaged. In this case, our podiatrists are able to help relieve tightness and can provide custom orthotics as a long-time solution to support the arch of the foot and prevent undue stress. Are you a cyclist and experiencing pain in your foot? Don't just pedal through! Come and see one of our podiatrists so that you can ride pain-free. Simply call us on (08) 6269 2038 to make an appointment.

02.01.2022 Did you know that in 2020, there are more people over the age of 60 than those under the age of 5 years old? This year’s theme of International Day of Older Persons is to raise awareness of the special health needs of older persons and their contribution to their own health, as well as recognising and appreciating health workers dedicated to maintaining and improving the health of older persons. In podiatry, older persons make up a major part of our patient-...base. As we get older, our feet flatten, widen and our fatty padding wears down, leaving the bones and joints in the feet vulnerable. Due to this, a simple foot problem such as a blister can have a major impact on the mobility and balance of an older person, hindering their independence. Our podiatrists are dedicated to preventing and managing all foot conditions in older persons to help them maintain their mobility and quality of life. If you are an older person, take your health into your own hands in celebration of this International Day of Older Persons and call us on 6269 2038 to see how our podiatrists can help you.
02.01.2022 Do you need to see a podiatrist but want to know what happens at an initial consultation first? Well let me tell you! At your initial consultation you will be greeted by one of our receptionists with a smile. If you have not already filled an initial consultation form out online, they will kindly ask you to fill one out in the clinic. The podiatrist will then call you through for your appointment, where they will ask you to explain you concerns. They will then provide an assessment and treatment.
