25.01.2022 Minke whales come to the Reef in winter, June and July, and the weather can be rough at times. The waves make perfect surfing conditions and the whales love to hang ten. 24.01.2022 Piazza Navona is a public space in Rome, built on the site of the Stadium of Domitian, built in the 1st century AD, and follows the form of the open space of the stadium. Ruins of the stadium can still be seen under the modern Piazza. #rome #italy

23.01.2022 Sometimes it's the small details in a place that catch my eye. I love the door handles and knockers in Valletta. This is a small selection. #valletta #malta

23.01.2022 It's always the variety of life on the Reef that astounds me. I took this photo on a four day trip the focus of which was sleek, elegant whales. This cute little guy provided a beautiful counter-point. Great Barrier Reef, June 2020.

23.01.2022 At about 8m long, minkes are on the small side by whale standards. But when they swim slowly by you, so close you could touch them, looking you right in the eye, they have a majestic presence. This is Master Reef Guide, Michelle Barry, enjoying a very close encounter. Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia. June 2020. 14.01.2022 It's a good thing we North Queenslanders are such a resilient bunch. These bitter winter days are hard to take...

12.01.2022 We just got home from dinner and this was the view from our hotel room window. The bell tower of our local church Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore. Nice! #rome #italy

05.01.2022 Minke whales are beautiful, serene, gentle, majestic animals and a close-up encounter with one is a truly magical moment. Unlike many marine wildlife encounters, a minke encounter is not a fleeting moment- the whales seem genuinely curious about us and will continuously engage with snorkellers for hours on end. Thank you so much to @MikeBallDiveExpeditions for four wonderful days with these beautiful whales. Great Barrier Reef, June 2020. 04.01.2022 Healthy reefs with beautiful coral and colourful little fish will always be one of my favourite sights on the Reef. Great Barrier Reef, June 2020.

02.01.2022 At about 0.5 km squared and with just 1,000 citizens, Vatican City is the smallest and least populous country in the world.

01.01.2022 Minke whales display many fascinating behaviours during their stay on the Reef. This is the first official documentation of them playing 'follow the leader'. Great Barrier Reef, June 2020.

01.01.2022 Queensland is opening up!! I can't wait to get back to the Reef and Coral Sea! (this is the Western Wall at Osprey Reef). Michelle Barry
